OK, I have to ask, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful: if Catholics truly believe in Transubstantiation, then this would be the perfect opportunity to prove a supernatural claim. I mean if it's true, then after you have the eucharist - does your body poop out Jesus' flesh and blood into the toilet? It would have to be in there. Would you get more nourishment from the eucharist than plain old wine and crackers if you were starving in the woods? The mind has to wonder....:(
i'll tell u honestly. i love this life because i can find people like u.
this world is not totally deluded. there is a hope. unite!
continue, man!
sadly, we live in a such stupid deluded world that makes us show to people how stupid they r. but soon a big change will come. now religious stupidity is obvious to many people. unite! spread zeitgeist!
I had it the same way. I knew the problems with Christianity, but I was too scared of hell, then I just jumped in it and decided to be honest to myself. I waited longer before I admitted being atheist when asked.
Dear God. These arguments, they're so biased. If you're going to claim that knowledge casts out fear, you'd have to account for the burdens that come with knowledge. Take Solipsism for example. If you'd been "enlightened" to the fact that you were the only one in existence, and everything around you was nothing but an illusion created by yourself, would you not be fearful or remorseful of utter aloneness?
@HMachProductions You assume that the self is all that exists. My reality is larger than that. Speak for you own little alone "self." You wish to bury your self in what to me is unreality. You are entitled to do so, but you are no more "right" in your reality than I am in mine.
he has a valid point. His statement has nothing to do with a comparison between yourself and him, its an impersonal statement. The fact that knoweldge is developed(yes I understand that my knowledge if spelling needs to developed) with time/muturity blah blah blah. And at certain stages of that, accumulation of knowledge, it is very likely you will run into times of "fear" "hurt" or some other form of undesirable condition due to that knowledge.
One more thing. If you believe people will see what they expect to see when a person undergoes an NDE, what will an atheist see? Things have to be more objective when it comes to the topic of the afterlife. You can't just throw in neurological subjectivism. Otherwise, from your hypothesis, I could be mentally dead, but fighting dragons at the same time.
@HMachProductions Hmmmm. You could be. Most likely an atheist will see whatever images are most indelibly impressed on his subconscious. So some atheists may very well see heaven or hell. That fiction is hard to shake from the unconscious mind, since it was seeded there beginning in infancy. Fortunately, in our waking minds, atheists have shunted the superstition aside. Ever try to get ALL the dog shit off your shoe? Usually you just buy new shoes.
HUGE FLAW. The Jews, after WW2, were scarce in number, and the UN made Israel their homeland once more. The Jews had little to no say in the fact that nation would become sovereign again, and thus, it is not self-fulfilling. Take it as coincidental if you will, but it's INDEFINITELY not self fulfilling.
@HMachProductions The state of Israel was declared by David Ben Gurion in 1948, and instantly the Arab states declared war. I don't care how small the movement was, it was known of by Jews worldwide. The movement was started in the late 19th century. Israel became a state because Jews thought it was supposed to. I'm not arguing that they were right, but that they believed their homeland was prophesied. Peddle your anti-Zionist crap someplace else. That isn't what this is about.
hey about ww2 dont just say USA and the A bomb.. England and Canada helped a lot. the beach at normandy, (saving private ryan opening scene, most would recognise) was a duel effort, canada was storming beaches too at the same time, and i am guessing it was just as bloody.
@AirThief we cannot deny the fact that yes the other allies where vital to winning that war but i think where most get at with the USA comment is one they dont fully know why they do, the reason USA was vital for the victory was simply the fact that churchill needed our full support and our mass ability to flood both man and material into the warzone to crush nazi germany, but again it was a combined effort.
whats scarey, is Glen Beck fancies himself a prophet. I listen to his show everyday, for the past 4 years. The ONLY conclusion on this guy, other than he is nuts, is that he himself has one of the hugest egos ever, and does infact think he is a prophet.
@GrudgyDiablo Now you are being specific. "Zionist Jews who murder and deport civilians because they are NON-Jews" are a legitimate target for hatred, as you regard them as criminal. Priests who molest children are also a legitimate target of hatred, as they, too, are criminals. But hating ALL Jews or ALL Catholics for the actions of some is irrational and bigoted. Do you at last see where I'm coming from?
@GrudgyDiablo "because it was built on murder , violence and supremacy" You could say that about the United States. Do you wanna give it all back to the Indians? The US expansion and the so-called Indian Wars were the result of something called "manifest destiny." It's a fair analog to the prophecy of the Jewish state. You and I didn't exist when it all happened, but we benefitted from it. If you are so hot about Arabs and Jews, how do you feel about the real "cowboys and Indians"?
@GrudgyDiablo You read a book and you know everything. Those terrible Jews just killed and killed and killed, but nobody ever bothered them. Yeah, right. This whole exchange started because you selected a phrase from my vid that Jews are no meaner than anybody else. But you hate Jews so you had to make your point. You've made it. Now what? Who else do you hate?
@GrudgyDiablo There's plenty of guilt to go around as far as bombs and such are concerned. You only see the ones you want to see, apparently. Hate whomever you please, but don't accuse me of justifying atrocities. I don't and didn't.
@GrudgyDiablo No, I don't hate Christians, nor Muslims. I hate Christianity and Islam. It's some world views I hate, not the people who hold them. There's a difference.
@GrudgyDiablo It doesn't matter whether they are a "race" or not. They are the descendants of the Hebrews who inhabited that part of the world for at least 5000 years. They have at least as much claim to it as Arabs do.
@GrudgyDiablo "in that sense palestine is 100% arab territory"
In no sense has it ever been 100% Arab territory. Jews have lived in Palestine since biblical times. Majority Arab, perhaps. But 100%? Never.
I won't argue with you over what is a Semite. Jew-hating is always called anti-semitic. Your terminology doesn't supersede popular usage. That you hate any specific group, whatever you choose to call them, makes you a bigot.
@GrudgyDiablo Have you ever been to Israel? I don't know about now, but when I visited in 1972 I went to a kibbutz to see what it was like. It was surrounded with barbed wire and guard towers. Children didn't live with their parents, but communally in a central location best protected from attack by Arabs, which could be expected at any time. You try living under those conditions.
That said, I agree that Israeli treatment of Arabs has sometimes been Draconian. I don't legitimize atrocities.
well largo , let's the historical facts straight shall we ?
first of all , you need to undestand WHY the arabs who are "surrounding" israel are committed to it's destruction ..
because it is a malignant tumor that was FORCED upon the arab palestians , in 1948 millions of arabs were either deported or butchered by jewish militias .
so before you depict the arabs as evil terrorists who are trying to destroy the peaceful jews , just please review a history text book
@GrudgyDiablo If this seems a little confusing, it's because I accidentally removed the above comment when I meant to hit "reply." I still had it in my email box so I copied it and pasted it back.
(cont.) Now to history. Jews have lived in Palestine historically as long as Arabs have. They lived pretty much in peace until after WWII, when a great many Jews, believing the prophecy in their scriptures that Israel would be re-established, migrated to Palestine (against the will of the British, who controlled the country at the time). They, of course, swelled the number of Jews vis a vis Arabs, and created a problem that hadn't existed before.
(cont.) In 1947 the United Nations worked out a partition of Palestine with separate enclaves for Jews and Arabs. The Arabs utterly rejected the partition, declaring that they would not accept the presence of an Israeli state, hence the 1948 war. Your characterization of butchery by Jews against Arabs is simply false. They fought a war all right. But they were surrounded by Arab militias committed to their complete destruction. They fought back. What would you have done?
@GrudgyDiablo Whoa, there, Sparky! I justified nothing. I said that they were surrounded by people who are committed to their destruction. In their place you would do the same thing. I SAID they were no meaner than anyone else, for example Americans who nearly wiped out thew original inhabitants of North America. And who said it was okay to nuke the west? I pointed out that the A-bomb was used to bring about the end of WWII. I hope that no nuke is ever used again. Double standard? How?
I agree! I don't know about you, but I'm not such an old timer atheist myself, only about 4 years now, but feels like forever! It's surprising how quickly you can actually shirk off the old religious habits you picked up. Although I guess that depends on just how long one was religious.
It also depends on the pervasiveness of indoctrination.
As a former Jehovah's Witness I still struggle at times even though I've been away from the Kingdom Hall for 16 years. I had to repair a lot of mental damage but it's still an ongoing process.
The worst of the mental damage was(is perhaps) an aversion to education.
Yes, lots of smart people actually have adhered to the Christian faith. But we shouldn't forget, when we name people like Newton, Pascal and Leibniz, that up until the 17th/ 18th century people were killed for denying the existence of Yahwe. I daresay there was more than one closet atheist among them.
@deathshadow790 Are you serious? One author writes after the other, being aware of the other's writing. You don't write much, do you? This isn't like the game in which one person tells a story verbally to another who passes it along to another, etc. until the story is unrecognizable. This is about written documents that can be referred to when the next is written.
And who says it "lines up well"? It is riddled with contradictions.
Largo, you were correct about the NDE's brain activity does become dream like when you are close to death, or in the middle of dying, and since everybody has heard of the "ray of light in a tunnel" and imagines seeing their relatives again..thats what comes out!

The way I see it, their great ideas came not because of their religion, but when, despite their religious beliefs, they went against them.

I agree with you for the most part but disagree on the issue of Israel and Palestine. The Israelis have committed horrendous warcrimes for no reason other than to keep the local indigenous population down and out.
watch?v=mLZgNy46aTQ Watch this video, it shows exactly what the Israeli government has done to maintain their apartheid, even after objections from the people of Israel themselves.
Yup, same with Aztecs, the High Priests that had a hierarchical power structure over the slaves. human beings require a decision maker and that requires responsibility.. Those that lead and those that follow, like Chimps that hang about in groups, they require an Alpha Male.

Probably not! Theists fight any new knowledge which disputes their silly beliefs in the Magic Sky Daddy, and his Magic Son.
Or any religion, for that matter.
This is how any holy book is designed.
Religion is like a computer virus of the brain.

Yup, same with Aztecs, the High Priests that had a hierarchical power structure over the slaves. human beings require a decision maker and that requires responsibility.. Those that lead and those that follow, like Chimps that hang about in groups, they require an Alpha Male.
