  • when people ask me if im goth ...i say i am my self even though i feel that in general that i am one .....

stereotypes make it hard for people to actually know a person

  • iv been goth since i was 5 and i dont think its a phase. im 12 now

  • Most of Goths are freaks... They don´t fit into mainstream society and don´t want to fit in. "Expressin themselves" means showing who you are not triing to fit into some other group. Most of goths are not calling themselves goth because they don´t need to. They just listen to music THEY like ande wear clothes THEY like. "Goth" isn´t what it was in 80´s. It is subculture of all freaks in black that like dark art, music and fashion "Goths" (fan´s of goth rock) are just part of it..

  • I believe that a rant like this would basically apply to any stereotype. I do enjoy certain aspects of the "Goth" lifestyle, such as the look of it and the type of music, but I don't make an attempt to cling to the stereotype, nor do I call myself "goth" all the time. By the way, I like the death note music at the end.

  • Each of your statments are valid and while they are, I still consider myself as part of the subculture. I'm not a hypocrit, I'm not judgemental, and stand for balance. I want to break these stereotypes and show that no matter what a person classifies themselves as, they are still individuals with free thinking minds.

  • why are you bashing the gothic life style?? goth has been around for centuries, goth is no where related to punk..punk has only been around since the late 70's

and probably the only goths you have seen are the sterotypical ones...

  • First of all Gots are not a barbarian people was an east germanic tribe which moved from gotaland sweeden aroun 2nd century. Also you re just keep loosing the the meaning of the goth culture

  • Eh...to each his own i guess.. you don't like us that's just fine. I'm okay with it. Well at least we aren't Wiggers now that's something NO ONE likes. :(

  • you´re so low.

judging so called `wiggers´ to make yourself, a mascare wearing freakazoid, feel better about themselves.

if you don´t like wiggers or anyone else for that matter, just keep the fucking opinion to yourself.

  • u are so fucking idiot....get a life!

  • OMFG thank u! we're all people and the stupid classifying s#%t's annoying!

  • mehhhhh people realy got pissed about this one hehehehehe keep it up lol but yeah if you were to box me i would probs go in the goth box lol i dont mind you know but i think the reson why we lable is so we can feel as if we belong

  • I see, but, is'nt basically being goth being a hypocrit, not neccesarily to most things but to the religion's that they are not. I see your point though well i think i do. hmm?

  • ExpiredWater6201:

I think it applies to many things that are considered "organized" ie cliques/labels, clubs, groups, religious groups, because frankly setting a rule and then breaking it, that clearly is hypocrisy.

And then the other side, if nobody ever gave a damn, these "Goth" people who call themselves that would not be as they are because of shock value.

Im just stating my opinion and what I think in the mind of a person who just wants attention.

  • I do agree with some of what you're saying. I'm Gothic, and there IS a difference between Goth and Gothic, but Goth-usually, it's merely a phase. Gothic-more often than not, it is a lifestyle.

To some people, it is important to label oneself. Not exactly to me, but a lot of Goths and Gothics.

Many Goths/Gothics aren't the same. We are all loosely related, but we all have our own thing going for us that makes us unique.

  • GothycDreams:

Thanks for keeping an open mind.

    :)

  • okay imma go wild on this whole theroy Real "goths" sutch as myself do not label themselfs goth was brought down from two poets that stood out for there time it has outlasted punk and is a lifestyle we don't hate everything we just want to be ourselfs and dress the way we want to dress so leave us alone

  • paisleyisgreat:

    ...Who the fuck are you???

How can I leave someone alone when I havent done anything to you???

Youre just being defensive so youre probably being insecure?

And you just labeled yourself goth. Goth has ben around forever, but not that kind of "Goth"

And when the fuck did I ever say you hated everything?

Dude youre going off such a crazy tangent right now, whatever.

    LoL

    Peace.

  • You made read, me no like read. Now brain hurts.

  • IAmSamThatIAm:

sorry dood. I dont have money to put in audio :( Im pooooooor as fuck.

  • goth is a glorified fan club, we like the look as well as the music, and we also take in the darker side of life, that is goth, thank i know, i'm the smartest in the world

  • GoldenValorForm:

Hate me or not, but I dont believe what you just said at all.

For you to say youre a "real goth," so did many other people whove said theyre real goths or "full-fledged" goths so that makes you no different. I feel that you truly have no idea or real concept of what goth is. You can describe what "goth" is, but can you Define it?

Gothic Cathedrals dont make the people in it "Goth" neither are Visgoth barbarians.

The dark ages were a time of "ignorance", not "goth."

  • well hate me or not, i can define goth in every deffinition, goth is a type of msic, that came off of punk in the late 80's, goth is a form of architechture, goth was a group of barbarians, goth is a form of literature, and a term meaning barbaric, so yea, don't try to challenge me when it comes to goth, i shall always over power you

  • GoldenValorForm:

Yeah, you got those right, now, How exactly do those things make a "goth" person "goth??"

    Thats what Im asking?

You can describe what Goth is, but can you define goth? What makes a goth person, well, goth???

  • well, we have high respect for all those things, we enjoy things that are darker than most, we are huge fans of gothic music, and i should ask you, what makes a normal person, how could you describe as normal, explain that to me mrs. smarty

  • Well, Mr Smarty lol

Thats the trip though, there is no such thing as normal.

Yeah but that doesnt answer my question! what makes a "goth" person "goth?" how can a human being be Goth that is percieved as "goth" today dood???

    D:

  • ok, before i answer your question, i'm going to tell you ask you this, what to the barbarian goths have to do with gothic literature, what does gothic architechture have anything to do with gothic music, what does gothic music have anything to do with the barbarians, what does the literatuce have to do with the goth from renissans times, answer me that if you have that much inteligence, and i will answer your question, cause if you can't, then you are not worth wasting time on

  • The Real question is:

What do Goth music have anything to do with Barbarians and Visgoths when they came first? how did these "Goth" people come to "love literature" when The barbarians came and demolished it.

Im not questioning your intelligence, Im questioning what makes goth goth, when all of those things happened before that have nothing to do with "goth" today, where did it derive from? why is it called goth?

  • If I am a "goth" does that make me a Church Cathedral? If I am goth, does that make me a barbarian or a piece of Architecture?

If you dont want to debate with me, then thats on you.

Im not offended by anything honestly. And Im actually a neutral party so I choose neither side.

    However,

Socrates is one of my favorite idols.

  • modern goth is a resurection of the renaissance goth, and i am natural born goth, how is that possible, i was born in gotic switzerland, so i'm goth in both terms of the sense, so yea, that's what a huan goth is, a return of the goths from the past, if you dislike it, then to bad, we are here to stay, God bless... Dolby

  • I disagree with that statement because, I think that you can be born in a "gothic" community, but what then if you listen to hip hop? and dress differently? or disagree that youre "goth?"

How can a person be born "goth?" we have different ethnicities because of our skin and feature adaptation to the environment we lived in before we all started migrating.

"goth" has been around only for so long.

My argument is, Goth doesnt make a human, The human makes "goth..."

  • Fuck, I was born and raised in a community where there were mostly black people, but does that make me Black or of african descent??? Yes my city is extremely diverse, but the majority are people who are black.

So born in Gothic Switzerland? Then I was Born in Black and colored and homosexual people California. I must be Black and homosexual. because I was born in that kind of community. [Although I am Azian so I am considered a female of color]

  • my father is from gotic (yea, that is the proper way to spell it) switzerland, my mother met him there, he and his family lived there for many years until a few years after i was born, then we moved to america

  • gotic as in gotic in Switzerland?

    what is that then?

  • More lables to make us grow farther apart as a race people should be looking for the simularites with each other not the differences

  • Pretty much, to me, labels are another form of something similar to ethnocentrism, where people think their ethnicity is better than other ethnicities. i.e. "If you aint mexican, you aint shit" you, shit like that, but otherwise, yeah, maybe people just cant get along, its a doubleedge blade if you know waht I mean.

  • Ok, I also was once "goth"........sort of. By most "goth" people I was probably seen as "pseudo goth". I still had blond and pink hair, listened to music other than "goth" music as well as "goth" music, and, possibly my worst offense, was HAPPY! so, even though i really liked/like "goth" music, and the "goth" aesthetic, I've outgrown trying to fit in with any group. I'm much happier being me, listening to the music I still like, and being happy. And most of all, not caring what people think^_^

  • vintageortacky:

    Yeah same went for me,

The first two years i "gothed" out in high school, I was like, "can I get this in black" and "I hate pink" and all that other stoopid shit,

But now that I grew out of that as well, I had a totaly different view of goth, a Person can wear all pink and still be "Goth" but yeah.

I consider Jennifer Parkin of Ayria to be of the darker kind of genre and she has pink and blonde ass hair and wear pink make up.

  • she has pink and blonde ass hair? lol ew

  • well now she has blonde and black.

    its very intersting.

you know how brunettes have black hair and platinum blonde streaks? its vice verse.

  • well i was trying to make a joke about you putting "pink and blonde ass hair"..ya know, like ass hair? haha.

  • omg I cant believe I didnt even get that joke...!! lmao

    Im hella dumb lol

Sorry I say ass and fuck in almost everything I say so its a habit I dont even think of it lol.

  • thats not that big of an offense... lol god, you guys all have the wrong idea about us.. im sorry cindyloo for calling you a dog after researching you for a lil bit your not that bad but still i dont agree with your view of goth.

  • I wasnt trying to offend you. There is no wrong idea. Jeez cant you grow some humour dood? You cant laugh at or about yourself once in a while? cmon now dood.

I dont understand why people need to label themselves. I think its completely stoopid and unecessary.

Dont judge, dont hate dood. I hope you know I dont say shit out of ignorance. If you really are 16, youll know what I mean once you graduate high school if you still are in high school.

    Thanks for your apology. :)

    But...

  • ...If we really want to go down that road, if I have to be labeled anything, Id be some Industrial-rivethead/Emo person or something. Lol. Im an alternative person who listens to all kinds of music.

Anyhoo, hope to talk to you more often later.

  • You can be Goth & be yourself too!
