The Bible is not supposed to be a science book, even though some Baptists preachers try to claim it is.
It is a history book about what mankind knew at the time. One thing that was evident, was that the world is much bigger than any one man or woman, and that there must be a creator. A power with a higher love and higher intelligence than people at the time had.

Science proves a higher intelligence created life. DNA is a code. It is a language written by someone or something. Do you know how cells splite. Enzymes deconstruct the cell and dna and the form a second cell with DNA. Enzymes don't work independently. They are programmed by DNA. Yet it is the Enzymes that build and create DNA. So what came first? So how did both the hardware and software of a cell just appear one day out of inanimate matter?

I am an atheist, but I have to laugh at people who keep saying how perfect the KJV bible is to others like the NIV . The stories contained in the bible came from a variety of writings in many languages, they did not have pronouns or punctuation and no where in those writings did they use words like THEE and THOU. those words the punctuation and the format were done by men working for King James 500 years ago, Newer versions have used same writings to make it more clear with better translation.

May I suggest that all interested parties take a look at Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem? That's math. And it has some interesting/troubling implications. It doesn't say that "God" (as the explaining factor) exists. But it also say that the possibility may not, cannot be discarded. Again, that's math. So the real conflict, as I see it, is not so much between atheists and religious people as it is between seekers and bigots on either side, and also between bigots on both sides. Peace.

I am an atheist, but I have to laugh at people who keep saying how perfect the KJV bible is to others like the NIV . The stories contained in the bible came from a variety of writings in many languages, they did not have pronouns or punctuation and no where in those writings did they use words like THEE and THOU. those words the punctuation and the format were done by men working for King James 500 years ago, Newer versions have used same writings to make it more clear with better translation.

May I suggest that all interested parties take a look at Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem? That's math. And it has some interesting/troubling implications. It doesn't say that "God" (as the explaining factor) exists. But it also say that the possibility may not, cannot be discarded. Again, that's math. So the real conflict, as I see it, is not so much between atheists and religious people as it is between seekers and bigots on either side, and also between bigots on both sides. Peace.

But several years ago I started looking stuff up in books and on the net. Turns out my pastor was half right. Darling you were comparing a bible thats supposed to appeal to children. Next time try taking an actual bible the one with no pictures. I dont know if you have read the Bible but the stuff in their doesnt give you warm happy feelings. There are stuff in there that just makes you want to cry, if anything I would say the Bible is full of tragedies. At least read before you make incorrect conclusions and superficial assumption. I'm quite surprised I was expecting a more thoroughly researched person

I think the story of the virgin Mary is entirely fictional. I don't think she was 'sleeping around' and had to lie to daddy. I think she herself was real, but the story of her is myth made up decades after her son's death. And yes, I do believe Jesus was real, but was grossly exaggerated.

So these things written in the bible are really more like allegories for human nature and psychology. I can elaborate if the last post doesn't make any sense. I couldn't exactly fit everything I wanted in there but figured that you atheists are just so much more intelligent than everyone else you would get it. And by the way, many of the worlds leading physicists believed in god. Mainly because you can't scientifically rule out the existence of a god.
