i love ozzy just looks almost depressed when hes singing but as soon as randy breaks into a solo ozzy gets the biggest smile on his face and starts jumping
Randy's talent is very telling, as is Ozzy's look of sheer amazement at the end...Mr. big-time rock'n'roller standing there staring, slack-jawed like the rest of us. Thanks for posting this up.
Oz at the end looking at Aldridge like" holy crap enough will the long fill and end it already so I don't keep standing here!" Nonetheless cool though
Very cool! Thanks' for posting this. I'm gonna see Oz this friday night in Vegas. Should be pretty cool, nothing like seeing him during the 'Blizzard of Oz' tour in San Diego, but good none the less.
Ha ha ha!!!! I love how "lost" Ozzy looks at the end- like he's all f*cked up and looking back at the band going...."wow....what are you crazy dudes doing, man?"
Randy was one of the best guitarists that ever walked the Earth. I was born in the late 90's, long after Randy's death. I would give anything to be able to see him live. He was an inspiration to us all.
I just got done reading Rudy Sarzo's book "Off The Rails". I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a look inside the best live band Ozzy ever had: Randy, Rudy, Tommy, and Don. These After Hours videos are so important because they're the only pro quality recordings of this lineup. Thanks for posting them. They show the brilliance of every musician and they show the dubious abilities (musically and othewise) of Ozzy Osbourne: The most overrated singer/performer in heavy metal.
@mattlth ....you mean the singer of the first and most well known heavy metal band of all time that went on to become even more famous as a solo artist - ive never heard ozzy being talked about as overrated if anything he is underrated he has a great melodic voice and original and quite a range for someone who has never had a singing lesson in his life - the best live band he had was actually the one he recorded diary of a madman and blizzard with lee kerslake ,bob daisley and randy rhoads.
@mojopin70 Yes, the recording band for Blizzard of Ozz was fantastic, indeed. I'm a big fan of his live band with Rudy, Tommy, Don, and Randy. Ozzy owes all of those guys a huge debt. Unfortunately, he and Sharon got tired of paying Bob and Lee their royalties and had their tracks replaced by Mike Bordin and Robert Trujillo in 2002. That's low. As for his vocal abilities, a lot of the notes he sings in this video are out of tune. That's how I remember him singing when I saw him in 82 & 83.
@mojopin70 Yes, I know. I don't remember saying anything about the writing. Be that as it may, I'm aware that Bob Daisley was the force behind the lyrics on "Blizzard" and "Diary". Randy provided the musical genius with his guitar, and Lee played the hell out of the drums. Ozzy added a line of lyrics here and there for royalty purposes. Ozzy hardly wrote anything. Read Rudy's book if you don't believe me. Since you're obviously a "Blizzard band fan" (as am I), you'll find it fascinating.
@75sliver Yeah thanks !! i looked it up after i couldnt figure it out all day .. lol yeah not that i listen to white snake but i remember him on some old videos of theres ...
There's no doubt, Randy was one of the first pioneers to combine sweet melody with classical influences in metal and whilst it was happening in the background with other bands, Randy brought it to the fore. When he died, we all lost a great talent...maybe the Gods of Rock thought this world was not ready for such a talent.
The only gripe I have with this video is that the tempo seems too slow. This song needs to be played slightly quicker however, played with true style.
I remember meeting randy in St. Louis. I really thought he was a she at first. He had some papers in his hand and no pen. He asked to see mine. Then I knew who he was so I let him have it. And he signed his name and asked mine. It said "Thanks little guy" Did I mention it was 1981, and I was 9 yrs old.
Wow, great preformance but I'm stunned as to how slow the song goes. I just saw a live version with Brad Gillis on lead (following Randy's death) and the song goes much faster.
Strange to think the way Randy was re-writing the way metal guitar should be played without realizing it. One can wonder what he would have come up with later on in life as a numerous great artists delivered their best material in their later years.
Oh well, we'll all get to hear it when we go to heaven.
I'm laughing at the cheesy sounding synths.I'm sure in their day they were cutting edge and costs heaps, but these days you can get a cheapie Casio for a $100 that shits all over them sound wise.
Ozzy once said this about the recording of this song in the studio... "Randy was doing Mr. Crowley and he just didn't like the sound he was getting, Randy was always a perfectionist. After doing several takes of the song I told Randy to just play the song from his heart the way he thought it should be played." Randy then went out, played the song and that is the recording that finally made the cut on the album! God bless you Randy, you are forever in our minds and eternally in our hearts!

Every time I watch this I find my self fast forwarding to the solos, Their like fucking songs with a song ! Randy was just phenomenal and that's even an understatement
I love it when near the end (~5:57) Ozzy is smiling whilst looking at Randy when he finishes his solo. You can almost hear him think 'I landed on my feet with this guy'. Geat stuff.
@ffalcon62302 Ozzy said that Randy wasn't going to stay in the band long and would have left soon after, had he been alive. So I'm not guessing he'd be that different.
@ffalcon62302 You notice how much more original his music and sound was with Randy? It just sounds generic now days. Zack's a great guitarist, but I even prefer Ozzie's music during the Jake days over his later stuff.
Its nice to hear a live version of this without Zack fucking it all to hell with his silly over use of pinch harmonics. Nice post. Randy was the greatest.
ok.... i know this has nothing to do with this song (kinda). but. EVERYBODY, never watch the movie 'crowley'. it sucks. i was hoping it was going to be, like, a biography on aleister crowley(who the song is about), but it wasn't ... it was stupid. Sorry for taking up space... :)
Yeah ozzys just the front man, he just had amazing bandmates, he sings better than me of course and maybe half of us here, but all his music should be thanked cuz it came from, randy rhodes, and Sharen Ozbourne She wrote 75% of the songs

Ozzy wouldn't achieve such big succes in his solo carrer without Randy. There woulnd't be any Zakk Wylde if there wouldn't be Randy. He released only 2 albums with Ozzy but they were a masterpiece. There are only two classical music influenced guitarists that are real musicians. It's Randy Rhoads and Ulrich Roth. No Malmsteen or other poser.
ozzy achieved bigger success with sabbath .. but randy is genius it's just reality .. hey i second your opinion , malmsteen and such other suc*ers are nothing compared to randy :)
i wasnt talking about sabbath i was referring to his solo career. without rhoads i dont think it would hasve gone anywhere. i should have been more clear
Listen to the lyrics and maybe google alistair (sp) crowley and then perhaps you'll understand. Perhaps the pipe organ is used to conjur the image of a crazy man in a castle?
no wai if thats what you ment * Rudy Sarzo (1981-1982) * Bob Daisley (1979-1981, 1983-1991) * Phil Soussan (1986-1987) * James LoMenzo (1994) * Mike Inez (1989-1993) * Geezer Butler (1988, 1995-1996) * Robert Trujillo (1996-2003) * Jason Newsted (2003) * Chris Wyse (2003-2005) and Rob "Blasko" Nicholson - bass (2003, 2006-present)
i don't remeber any of those ever palying for maiden
i love ozzy just looks almost depressed when hes singing but as soon as randy breaks into a solo ozzy gets the biggest smile on his face and starts jumping

ozzy achieved bigger success with sabbath .. but randy is genius it's just reality .. hey i second your opinion , malmsteen and such other suc*ers are nothing compared to randy :)

This is what boys should learn and not guitar hero. This kind of talent is really rare.

Ozzy looks so out of shape in this video. Getting kicked out of Black Sabbath and heavy drug use will do that to a person I guess.
