  • SCTV rocks!

  • One guy doesn't want extra relish on his hot dog. :(

  • Wow, this makes me miss SCTV. Comedy genius!

  • Euegene Levy has some MOVES! In, "I've Got A Hickie On My Shoulder," he shredded the floor with his dancing.

  • "...my chinos, cuz she knows..." genius.

I flipping LOVE the 5 Neat Guys and I wish SCTV would have done more than two adverts. :( Either way, I keep coming back for me.

  • i'm in tears!!!

  • 5 Neat Guys would definately go triple platinum!!!

  • Love the fact that Joe Flaherty is acting drunk the whole time!

  • @rushaholic Yup, if you look closely you'll notice there's a flask in his front pocket

  • Too much! (^_^)

  • So is it available in 8 Track?!

  • Hilarious, every single time I watch this. I never missed an episode of SCTV through the 70s and early 80s, and am happy to say I have them all on DVD. Highlights of Five Neat Guys Gold include Joe Flaherty's drunkenness (an his flask outline in his pants pocket) and Dave Thomas looks downright lecherous. Such an incredible, creative program.

  • Tape or cassette $6.99. ha ha

  • @courace I think that's reel-to-reel tape, remember those? A lot effort to get it set up and going! I'll take the record please!

  • Don't mess with me, punk!!

  • ROTFLOL!!!! Some high exec must have know he was doing something unbelievably incredible when these guys came to the stage!!! XO

  • How these guys didn't overtake The Beatles amazes me.

  • Joe Flaherty's character looked drunk through the whole commercial.

  • Oh Ya, Sure! 5 Neat Guys and The Schmenge Brothers...

There's Still Some Big Fans of Them Here Sheboygan, Wisconsin Don't ya Know!

  • Joe Flaberty is hammered!!! LOL!!!!

  • i gotta go as 5 neat guys for halloween with 4 friends\

  • @sudofan, if you need an extra person, let me know.

  • @fredhetz I can fill John Candy's shoes now....and his pants. Tubby

  • @sudofan what a GREAT idea...

  • @sudofan I'm in . . . but should we double date with Stan & Wendy or should we double date Sid & Sue?

  • I always lose it when the ice cream goes flying.

  • One of the funniest sketches on one of the funniest shows of all time.

  • Hell yeah, those chinos gotta look sharp for the malt shop!

  • Pimples and Pockmarks!!!! Love that poor bastard!

  • the kid in the bathroom was probably like 'wtf! why are there singers in my bathroom!!'

  • @baronessdouglass, I know. We all did.

  • Damn I miss this show lmfao. I love the 5 Neat Guys.

  • Don't mess with ME punk! Put some Xtra relish on my hot-dog! 5NEAT got pretty 'edgy'!

  • Joe Flaherty as the drunk one is a classic performance.

  • For those who like the five neat guys, you should watch A Mighty Wind. Great mockumentary about 50-60s folk music directed by Christopher Guest and featuring some SCTV alumni too!

  • "Put some extra relish on my hot dog, it's Sunday and I really feel alive."

    Classic lyrics.

  • I miss SCTV too! absolute genius!

    Thanks for posting!

  • @MrZee1967, my pleasure!

  • @MrZee1967, you bet!

  • I can't stop laughing ! Man, do I miss SCTV !

  • @SandmanPaul5, I do as well. Big-time.

  • @SandmanPaul5 ,

You can buy this show on DVD.They 4 volumes.I watch them alot and never get bored.

  • I like the few seconds of the song "slow dance"

  • Fred, you are truly my YouTube hero! Whenever I need a quick SCTV fix, you always come through!! It's so awesome that you are sharing the neatness with the world even 30 years after the magic happened. TY.

  • @karmadhyana, what an awesome comment!

  • Hickeys are so "neat"

  • I have these DVDs at home. There's no doubt that SCTV was the most brilliant comedy show on television, and watching these clips only supports that argument. Talk about an all-star lineup - with these "five neat guys" and Andrea Martin and Catherine O'Hara, this is the best collection of comedic talent we've ever seen on TV. SNL was good - SCTV was ALWAYS delivering creative, hilarious television and satire. How I wish they'd reunite for one more SCTV "telethon" or fundraiser.

  • @roguehk : I'd love to see that. If John Candy was still with us, I could possibly see a reunion or something. Without him I can't see it happening. It wouldn't feel right.

  • Folks, you'll never see a compilation of comedy talent like this again. And I mean EVER again!

  • @vmvlkc, you speak the truth.

  • you can even see the flask in Joe Flaherty's pants

  • @JepMasta HAHAH WOW that is amazing!!

  • I like how Joe Flaugherty character was always drunk

  • When can we expect a box set of 5NG?

  • "Pimples and Pockmarks." What a great song! And where can I get some gold slacks?

  • 5 of the funniest people ever on tv. SNL wishes they could have boasted that kind of talent together or at any time. The sad kid in the background of 'Pimples and Pockmarks' slays me every time.

  • What makes this even funnier is that most of the songs sound the same.

  • This is subliminally hilarious. Joe Flaherty looks drunk in "Ice Cream"!

  • These guys aren't neat...There AWESOME!!!

  • @m1sterhockey, that is one fine comment!

  • @m1sterhockey

Yes, but they would have needed three more guys to be the "5 Awesome Guys"

  • just wish they had it on 8-track :(

  • "Put some extra relish on my hotdog; it's Sunday and I really feel alive."

Sounds like a plan. Guess what I'm having for dinner.

  • I wish i had gold chinos

  • UltimateSkaFan, I think we all do!

  • Ah, 'N' in this drunken greatness.

  • Was Eugene Levy in that too? Did he have a hickey???

  • hulalalalady, yes and yes!

  • Is that Rick Moranis and Joe Flahtery and John Candy doing the part of 5 neat guys?

  • johnny10301968, yes, it is.

  • Come on and put some extra relish on my hot dog.

It's Sunday and I really feel alive.

  • No joke, these guys were huge in my day. Their biggest record was "I Have a Dumb Question for You," just google it.

  • This is a joke right?

  • LOL

  • Okay, did anyone else notice Dave Thomas dropping his ice cream at 0:49? lol I wish there were more of these, I'm laughing till it hurts, ow. John Candy's mustache is awesome. Love the gold chinos. "Cooooooome on... and..... put some extra relish on my hot dog." LMAO

  • Thanks Fred! So funny!

I scream for ice cream.... RFLAO

  • Charmerci, the pleasure is mine.

  • OMG! Dave Thomas shaking his groove thang during "Pimples and Pockmarks" is too grand for words! Oh, how I love SCTV.

  • karmadhyana, you and I both.

  • As an example of what "SCTV" was spoofing with their 5 Neat Guys bits, consider this actual number by the late Jimmy ("I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus") Boyd from late 1953: "I've Got Those 'Wake Up, Seven-Thirty - Wash Your Ears They're Dirty - Eat Your Eggs and Oatmeal - Rush to School' Blues." Issued on Columbia (4-)40138.

  • It does seem that the '5 Neat Guys' was (were?) a composite parody of the many vocal groups signed to Columbia Records in the 1950's under Mitch Miller (such as The Four Lads and The Kirby Stone Four) - combined with the rather insipid numbers that they were forced to record.

  • @wmbrown6

You realize this is from a comedy show right?

  • Of course . . . my point is, the songs heard here seem to be spoofs of the kind of insipid material that Mitch Miller had groups such as The Four Lads and The Hi-Lo's record - not to mention what he had his other artists (i.e. Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell - even the great Tony Bennett) do. Ever heard "Mama Will Bark" - the absolute low point of Frank Sinatra's career, recorded within his last year at Columbia?

  • @wmbrown6

Ok I saw your profile, you know what's goin on.

  • Also . . . keep in mind The Four Lads were also Canadian.

  • 1:10 My whole family never gets tried of that part!

  • Imagine them trying to sing "Don't Mess With me Punk." That would be a laugher.

  • Check out Flaherty at 1:26, that's one hilarious drunk!

  • lollljoe flaherty's the drunk neat guy.....classic!!!!!..

  • Is it just me, or does that hickey at 1:32 look more like he got drilled by a major league fastball?

  • I remember I used to get so syched for this show between 1981-83 on channel 4 in New York.

  • I love how they use the exact same tunes in the award show skit.

  • I remember this being the first SCTV sketch I had ever seen. I was just a mere 3 years old when I had seen this on an SCTV tape with my parents. To this day, my mom and I still often find ourselves singing "Pimples and Pockmarks". Thanks for the upload!

  • singinglawnchair, I was only 23...I mean, 3...when I first saw this.

  • Haha, yeah... I'm pretty much a zygote compared to the other commenters on this video. =P

By the way, I often find myself asking for some extra relish on my hot dog, regardless of what day of the week it is. I like to live life to extremes.

  • singinglawnchair, you know how to live life.

  • How to handle the stress of constantly being so close to the edge?

  • Joe Flaherty always played his character drunk. This brings back fond memories, thanks for posting!

  • My pleasure, YnotBEvil!

  • I think you are better off getting 5 Neat Guys Gold, it has most of the songs from the original compilation.

Too bad they didn't release 5 Neat Guys Live! Hilarious!

They are excellent parody of 50s vocal groups like Somethin Smith & the Redheads which you can compare with on youtube.

  • I thought 5 Neat Guys were at Woodstock, but sometimes I mix them up with Santana.

  • Thanks, Fred. Dr. Pepper really hurts when you snork it up your nose...

  • Ouch, almostfm.

  • I AGREE...STAN AND WENDY ROCKS

  • When The Five Neat Guys are singing "Ice Cream", it looks like Joe Flaherty is drunk. And I love that mustache on John Candy!

Best Song: "Should We Double Date With Stan And Wendy?"

  • Poughkeepsiejohn1, everyone must answer for themselves whether they will double-date with Stan and Wendy, and - if so - why. Five Neat Guys were more than just singers. They were philosophers.

  • Damn straight. Why Thomas Aquinas himself would have deconstructed the interrogative, "Should We Double Date With Stan And Wendy?" with a standard ontological reductionist's response: "No. Better to double-date with Sid and Sue for those bobby-soxers are more happening."

  • cro44magnum, you have blown my Aristotelian mind!

  • Say, you're smart! Are you a "philosopher"?

  • I'm what they call a "self-proclaimed" philosopher and "pseudo intellectual." You don't get such high-faluting titles like those by NOT getting through grade six like I did.

  • That made me laugh, fred.

  • U R ON TARGET!

  • Since I found this I can' tell you how many times I've watched it. Hilarious! Love their impeccably syncopated choreography. And watch Dave Thomas in Pimples and Pockmarks. I wish there were more to watch.

  • Thisisgoofy, there's one more of 5NG performing at an Oscars-like SCTV award show that I'll post sometime soon. It's not as good as the other two I have up but it is at least more 5NG.

  • I've loved 5 Neat Guys ever since they played the Belmont back in '53. No group has ever had a wider range; not even The Beatles. Think: "Who Made the Eggsalad Sandwiches" and "I've Got a Hickey on My Shoulder."

  • It's clearly time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to take notice.

  • Comment removed

  • "I didn't sleep a wink-" *wink* "-all niiight...."

Gets me every time. :D Thanks so much for uploading this!

  • melners, my pleasure! People do love their SCTV.

  • @melners, my pleasure!

  • Pimples & Pockmarks!

  • COME ON AND...

Put some extra relish on my hot dog! Its Sunday and I really feel alive!

    What neat guys.

  • Is that anastrophe in "Mom Pressed The Crease In My Chinos"?

  • "Anastrophe" occurs whenever normal syntactical arrangment is violated for emphasis. For example, saying "echoed the hills" to mean "the hills echoed." With that clarified, you may all discuss.

  • Boy, do I feel like anastrophe for not having explained that!

  • When I first read what you wrote, I thought you were trying to say "an apostrophe." And I was an English major.

  • Gee, thanks professor!

  • lol..joe flaherty's the drunk neat guy!!!!!...way too funny!!!..i always loved sctv!!!!!!

  • Thanks for uploading. Funny stuff.

  • Thank you, friend.
