We had similar OshKosh units at Eielson AFB. Used a 6V92T for the drive, and a 600hp 8V92TT for the blower. The augers in that blower were huge! Had to be five or six feet in diameter, if not bigger. 'Bout twelve feet wide, and the impeller was equally huge.
It was great fun to watch and hear those big Detroits get loaded down and absolutely howl as they threw snow a hundred or so feet off the runway.
Yup, pretty sure that the chassis drive is a 6V53. Definitely a V motor from a short look, but didn't get close enough to verify if it was a 53 or 71.
The 2 stroke detroits don't like to be lugged.

its the drivers faults hes pushing the truck too hard and going to fast if he went slow it would have done better
blackmack1966 2 years ago
Slick icy pavement, lots of snow, the same motor that powers the PTO is powering the truck. Call it what you want.

Not too impressed with that unit. The wheels spin, underpowered, not too well designed.

The 8V71 only drives the snowblower section, and the 6V53 drives the chassis like a normal truck.
europachris 4 years ago
How can it be that two different diesel engines work together within the same vehicle?
