Hi Zenalus - Andy Gibb is my favourite performer of all time. I had the privilege of seeing him perform live many years ago and he was brilliant. My comment was not a criticism. I was comparing what I saw then, to later on in his career. He did not do the high notes in this video that used to do. Everyone ages and things change - a fact of life. and yes you are right it is each to his own.
@janmial U have excellent taste in music & singers. I'll let u know a large part of where I'm coming from on this Andy Gibb performance. Never throughout his entire career did I ever see him as happy as in this Chile concert. This was a time in his life when he finally came into his own, was confident w/himself, had found his way back, had found his niche. It all comes through 100% in this performance. To me, that matters more than almost anything else. Thanks for explaining your experience. :)
@janmial This performance is perfection. Its an absolute GEM. This is not an opera- there arent high notes 2 hit 2 begin with. Seriously. Dude. The word 'disappointing' has a place somewhere in this universe but Not on This webpage. Dude or dudette. R u a guy? I'm asking sincerely. A 100% heterosexual woman who appreciates Gibb music & appreciates Andy sees the word 'disappointing' on This webpage like its something from the Twilight Zone- like u MUST b kidding. 2each his own? Go Watch TV? :)
i think i love the long hair better, here he looks like a poodle. Had to giggle ! Too bad he had a heart infection and is gone. But to be honest, I wonder what kind if music he'd have done nowdays ? Man, this is classic !
I just find it odd how early on Andy was doing drugs, as he seemed so clean living and clean cut. Andy never looked in the throes of drugs either, always immaculate and well mannered, I always expect drug addicts to look unkempt and untidy, which he never did and I always thought he became the addict AFTER the break up with Victoria.
@olivialover75 Bueno, no tan mal, desafina un poco, quizás es problema de monitoreo; pero comparado con sus hermanos, le falta bastante, más allá de la edad...
@lexatins sorry about my arrebato ,... happend that i was inspired at the moment,..realmente no era unchico de una vocesota sabeis!,...mas creo, que no lo hacia tan mal!!!
Aspie- U've got it all wrong. In fact, its th opposite. This is about th best performance of his entire life. In fact its a Priceless Gem. & His voice sounds very sexy & does th job to his fans' - & his- great overwhelming satisfaction & joy- that's what matters. Let this video do for u what it does for me & so many others- make your heart absolutely soar w/ joy & happiness at seeing him at his best, extremely happy, & on top of th world. Skipd lyrics show how comfortable he was w/his audience.
@zenalaus Thanks for generously posting so much info on Andy's life. It's great to see how passionate u r about Andy. Andy was my first love when I was a teenager in the late 70s and I've only rediscovered him recently, reading about his life and watching tons of videos! I've realised what good taste I had when I was young. The way u feel about Andy's performance in this video is really wonderful and I will watch it over to try to understand it more from your (& other's) point of view : )
@Aspie08 U're welcome. Just 2 clarify, when I said this is about th best performance of his life, I didn't mean he didn't have other great performances, 2. He himself may've had a performance he felt was his best or that a professional critic would say was his best. But I'm not a critic- nor do I feel any of us need 2 b. We know excellent music, right? He was SO into this performance & a joy 2 watch. I'm not sure if he relapsed on drugs & did rehab in '85 & '86 but I think he was clean '86-'.88
sadly by the time this was recorded he appears to be the puppet on a string, as the youngest Gibb I wonder how much he felt pressure to be successful. Andy was more than talented enough to make it.
I really like this live performance by Andy, the way he moves about the stage and of coarse the way he's dressed to kill. The music of the Disco era was great but the way the gals and guys dressed was the greatest. They wore there cloths to fit & dance they did. Everybody was so neat, the gals in their short and dresses, chunky platforms..even the guys were known to wear 'em, so what happened, even I dress up in a sloppy manner! I don't care. Thx 4 this video, 1st time& It's not the last!
@jpcolts I was wondering if I was the only one who felt disturbed by this performance. I adore Andy and want to learn more about his life and understand the highs and lows that he went through. In this video, I was shocked and saddened to hear how shot his voice is and how he doesn't even seem to sing the chorus. I have read that on the After Dark album (1979), Barry had to do some of the singing because the cocaine had affected his voice. So sad, and must have been difficult for him.
@Aspie08 - I read somewhere that was his natural voice but either way we love how his voice sounded all thru his career. He did do cocaine, tho. It is speculated it might b what killed him- that even though he'd gotten clean (for a couple years b4 his 1988 death) the damage was done already 2 his heart. Official death cause was viral infection 2 heart or some such but cocaine can enlarge a heart, for ex. The fact he skips some lyrics here shows how comfortable he finally became in his own skin.
@Aspie08 - I'll give u some basic outline of his life from memory here. (Read an official biography for official facts.) Later, (next week) I'll try to post links to videos here in chronological order that will help you greatly understand the progression of his life more - great links including a few song performances & interviews. See my next comment post above for basic outline as I understand it.
@Aspie08 He came from a family of 5 (1 girl, 4 boys) him the youngest. His mother had been a band singer & his father a drummer. His brothers were very close in age 2 each other but there was a big age difference between them & him. He grew up w/ famous older brothers 'Bee Gees' & always wanted 2 b in their band. 1 day he was crying because of it (age 12 or so) so his mother said we'll get some amps & instrument players & u can have your own band. His dad booked him at a local hotel.
@Aspie08 He entered the music business at 18 years old. He married at 19 to an 18 yr old. They moved to Los Angeles. He started getting into drugs. When she got pregnant she went back to Australia & divorced him so her child wouldn't grow up surrounded by drugs & alcohol. He kept in touch & called his ex-wife thru the years. He was the first solo artist to have his 1st 3 songs break the top 5 or be #1 hits or some such. His first #1 hit was 'I Just Want To Be Your Everything.'
@Aspie08 From 1977 to about 1980 Andy had hit records & made millions of dollars. But he was still doing drugs. He commented 2 a reporter for People magazine that the only reason he watched the TV series 'Dallas' was to see actress Victoria Principal. After that comment appeared in the magazine, he was on the John Davidson tv show being interviewed & they surprised him by bringing Victoria Principal there for him 2 meet (they'd read what he said). They started seeing each other, fell in love.
@Aspie08 After living together for 13 months Victoria told him choose her or his drugs. He couldn't stop drugs so he lost her. He was devastated. They'd been so into each other that they'd given up friends so when she left he had no friends 2 help. $1,000/day cocaine. He turned more 2 drugs, had a nervous breakdown, didn't care about life. Lost all $. Psychiatrist saved his life. Family pulled him thru. He got clean from drugs for 2 yrs or so but the damage was done 2 his body & died at 30.
Ok now hubby and I feel really old.. remember him on all the tv shows and such.. older sister was in love with him.. she had this poster of him with the "sock" fitting really good..
I love the song but you can tell by this video andy looks tired inside his voice sounds shot it was only 4 years later he passed away. It's a real shame he's not around anymore R.I.P.
Looked at it again.......because of the GENERALS in their peaked caps around front of stage, I think it was shot in Mexico or Central or South America, am I correct?
Amalyur, you're the best! I don't know how you do it, but I am so glad you got all these Andy moments and are bringing them to all his fans. I just love his energy. Watching him makes my day! This song was very popular when I was in my last year of high school(vocacional 6) in Mexiko City

It was sad also that Elvis passed away that year.
