  • urban agriculture. bringing the vegetables closer to the heart of the city!

  • Great video. I would like to get some feedback on the Ghostrade movement. It is an innovative way to recycle technology as well as filter it down to other people who can benefit. It would be great to link with this video. Do a YouTube Search

  • convert errrrrr sum of the elements (fish crap) LOL im a fan of that i would have said SHIT !

  • watch my vid urban aggie rap

  • LOL I HAVE A HYDRO SET-UP INDOORS that I built myself...It grows plants herbs like you wouldnt believe and FAST.... I have a Mutant Mint Plant. (like a bush, and it's really unheard of thats how healthy it is),, and Im growing fully organic btw.... EARTH JUICE Nutrients... It costs so much less than when I farm outdoors in the summer!!!! I also live in the city so its just the way too go. All I have to say is. If ur a farmer against it! Then Maybe you should do it! Ur wasting time $ energy DO IT

  • if you're interested in urban agriculture and vertical farming, be sure to check out the vertical farm blog and spread the word. the way we eat determines how the world is used, said wendell berry. we've got to come up with a better food system than our current one, which leaves 1 billion people hungry every year. we can do better.

  • URBAN FARMING IS THE FUTURE..

  • Very cool!

  • holy crap. this is pretty damn sustainable!

  • cool vid

  • look, i'm just upset that this is such a huge deal out of this. MANY folks have been doing similar things for DECADES. why are they not on this show? it IS common sense & what effin movement? how bout survival? geesh. lovely.. ok...how bout this.." wonderful job! magnificent!! your all brilliant" that enough fawning to set the "movement" forward again or are my words that powerful? if so let me go for congress!! gods know i can't fuck that mess up any worse than it is now.

  • amazing!

  • I love the add at the beggining

  • Dhjdghhkkh

  • Cool

  • ok, everyone is acting like this is some HUGE great idea..while the science of it's pretty cool, most people with a smidge of common sense have been doing this for decades or longer(growing their own food), common sense people..we need more of it. no matter who is right or wrong in the "global warming" thing. COMMON SENSE!!!!

  • so it only takes a smidge of common sense to engineer a sustainable nearly closed mobile horticultural system? by making people feel like idiots in pursuit of some intellectual high ground, you're just setting back the whole movement. Come on, common sense says that when you want someone to do something, you don't make them feel like an idiot for wanting to do it.

  • wow....grt.

the rain water thats collected ....is it filtred in anyway before entering the system. being on the e. coast our rain tends to be some what gross at times. has water quality effected anything in a neg. way.

i think what your doing is fantastic.

    thanks for sharing.

  • Here in the country we have these things called "fields" and you can grow plants in them without using all of the solar panels, bioreactors, greenhouses, wind turbines, etc. Some of you people should drive 60 miles in any direction and see what goes on in the real world.

  • yeah, and those 60 miles and back cost oil, so why waste it?

  • @jjsjeffjjsjeff City folk are aware of these 'fields' you talk about , the trouble is these 'fields' are not in the city. In the real world food is shipped in from hundreds of miles away from 'fields' using 'oil' as fuel. This 'oil' will not be around in 40 years and so people in the city will have no access to 'fields' and so no access to food.

  • FINALLY.

    Smart people!

This is BRILLIANT I love the idea.

Maybe more cities can begin doing this

    :))

  • What kind of camera do you use to record yourself? I like the quality for some reason haha. Or is it your lighting? anyways, fun video!

  • Eso es lo que me gustaraia hacer en mi ciudad

  • "skwisgar"

whats the fuck is this shits??

  • gmgmgmgg

  • It's no surprise that people who post negative comments about innovative and positive matters are almost always barely literate.

  • Than please express your positive opinion and argument it in a literate way. I will be very pleased to read and maybe answer it.

  • It's the only way, live with nature or succumb to it.

  • awesome vid n_n

  • Does every video, commercial and television show feel like some sort of device to direct our thoughts down pre-assigned paths? Like sheep?

  • Cowell attacks Susan Boyle press coverage, full story at susanboylerocksmyworld(.)blogs pot(.)com

  • yes.

thats why its best to throw your tv away.

  • Haven't had cable in 4 years. I only can catch local news. So much of the time that I would of wasted watching utterly pointless and propaganda-laden hit shows, I spend preparing my soul the life hereafter.

  • Smart move. Don't miss TV much myself. Like to divide my time between Christ and the infowars.

  • Thats about all I do too. It also seems like thats all I enjoy doing. I try to watch a movie, play a game, or go try to find something fun to do in the city, but I can never find anything that even satisfies my soul in this world anymore other than the things of the Bible. I don't understand how can the world continue to march forward the way it does always thinking about the material moment. Such a false life, always worrying about how they are going to "physically" survive.

  • A fear-filled life, too. We have a great resurrection hope: Hebrews 11!

  • Amen, the things we hope for will one day be made manifest in front of us through Christ's return. Its the only thing worth looking forward too, knowing it will mean the end of suffering and eternal communion with God.

  • Amen. Thanks, bro.

  • Oh, that's so damn healthy... food growing in green houses, in polluted cities, watered with polluted water...

  • water comes from the rain , she shows it how, and what is in the rain harmful to us is needed by the plants like CO2,CO and NO2 NO..as simple as that!

  • "CO2,CO and NO2 NO... as simple as that!"

Do you REALLY believe these are the only substances in the air/rivers/rain in big towns of XXI-th century???

Well, they are not. These would be merely the substances in a town in... let's say... maybe XVIII-th century or even earlier.

Let's be optimistic, BUT not naive.

  • finally, the environmentalists figured SOMETHING RIGHT... Flora live off of CO2, and given the current economy, food may become a bit out of reach in time so it probably a good idea to grow and preserve one's own produce (vegetables are already horrifyingly expensive)

  • "finally, the environmentalists figured SOMETHING RIGHT..."

It must have been a blue moon...

The actually government pays people not to grow food... then the government gives away billions of dollars to help feed starving people... Makes a lot of sense... NOT...

  • if it is costly now and it is, is a mere matter of low economies of scale and nothing else. If our survival as species demands that we move away from petrol, gas, LG etc, we must develop techniques like these...forget nuclear energy dont be idiots

  • agreed with this comment 100%

  • you suck dick 100% ahoha

  • think as a demonstration project, the barge is a great way to get people thinking abstractly about sustainable agriculture.

It is that the carbon footprint of city dwellers is less than suburban and rural residents.

Who eats 2.2 pounds of potatoes a day!!!! To use this premise is nonsense. I garden on a plot that is about 20 by 20 and it provides about half my veggies for the year.

Frankly, I think most people in this country have just gotten too soft to try it.

  • yea, ok, solar cells, wind turbines? sounds costly. is costly. Even after they're boughten and will "pay for themselves" they'll eventually break down. good idea though, there will probably be lots of red tape for making such an operation happen in the city rather than out on the water.

  • Nothing but more nuclear power plants will supply the energy needs for the next generation. Nuclear power plants emit ZERO of the so-called "greenhouse gasses" that it has become fashionable to cry and whine about.

But, if you notice something else... It is always these big city folks sheltered in their concrete caves who are most responsible for ecological destruction. They preach a gospel from their pulpit of how everyone but themselves in the cities should live.

  • soo where are the wastes from the nuclear plants going? have i mencioned that it last thousounds of years! nuclear aint safe! nuclear energy originates polution and wars!

  • bullshit... people originate wars...

you fanatic religious faggots think you can just pull energy out of your ass...

  • wtf?! im an atheist!!! of course people create wars but people with nuclear weapons are more likely to abuse of their power!!!!

  • "people with nuclear weapons are more likely to abuse of their power"

    Like who??? Iran? North Korea?

Oh, wait, I forgot you are a gutless pacifist who won't fight anyway... fuck off...

  • i was talking about america, but those count too. im pacifist unless something threats me! thats why the world is in this state, cuz there are dumbasses like you!

  • I know what you were talking about... you like fascism...

    Pacifists are parasites of freedom.

  • wtf?! "my heart beats at left side" i like carl marx communism, your a capitalist! your the cancer of the planet, destroy everything just for money! shame on you!

  • "i like carl marx communism"

I knew you were a fascist...

  • communism aint fascism, capitalist societies are more likely to be anarchy or the opposite a fascism goverment, look at nazis, they werent communist! they were capitalists!

  • "As Fascism sprang from Communism, so Nazism developed from Fascism." (Churchill)

    Fuck off NAZI faggot...

  • you obviously dont know or read about politics, if you read, you would see that communism aint nazism! they are completly diferent, and wtf obcession with churchill?! what he said doesnt mean its truth! its like the bible! bible aint the thruth

  • I'll take the word of the greatest NAZI fighter of all time over a NAZI faggot like you...

    Winston Churchill:

"As Fascism sprang from Communism, so Nazism developed from Fascism."

  • you've already said that, and i said, that everything that somebody says maybe not be a fact but a opinion and opinion aren't reality! and wtf wuth that hate with nazis, althougt the image of negative is very bad, theyve bring wonders to this world, like anesthesy and pain killers!

communism aint nazism, nazism is similar to capitalism!

  • VanSneiwder: "i said, that everything that somebody says maybe not be a fact"

EXACTLY why I don't trust ANYTHING a NAZI like you says...

  • Sheesh! With some of these negative comments, It's no surprise humanity doesn't progress!

  • lets grow weed in there!!! lol

  • this is really fantastic....

i am from italy and here the food quality on the market is good at the least, and still everybody has tomatos and onions, potatos, and other stuff, the mentality is very positive. From what i see in this video and rumorms i hear that in america people have stareted to value earth in its best way possible...

    Just great keep it on!

  • global warming is so fake.

  • tfare10: "global warming is so fake." It is a religion of fanatics, an insular, self-referencial cult...

  • haha ya! its fake!!

  • WAFK! this is just lab-food, so artificial

  • did anyone notice the flame flashing? kinda distracting.

Looks like a good set up..the green houses with the fish and the worms to feed them is something that I would want to do if I had land to do it on.

  • We didn't poison the land... Well if you consider the government poison...

The farming industry was monopolized with support from the federal government a long time ago. It's way too expensive to do farming independently nowadays here.

  • I like this idea.

  • This is for Mars, stupids.

  • shhh

  • watch?v=vzZDPWqzNic

  • ...no

  • Wow, this is really cool! Does anyone know where I can contact the sustainable barge in NYC?

    Anyone? :-(

  • i wonder how many people that greenhouse feeds

  • Fantastic! I hope this idea spreads. I am planning on growing an urban garden this year. My city I live in sells the compost from all of the plant/trees they grind up for 10 bucks a truck load. Going to bury my back lawn in it and grow there. No more mowing for me.

Lawn=alot of work with no return

Garden=alot of work with alot of return.

  • This needs to happen everywhere, but my question is, why does this chick sound like Suzy Creamcheese?

  • I wonder how much money these sustainable urban farms can generate per year, if it's even worth it.

  • This would be great for The Great Lakes, and the Detroit River!

  • julian dejerric?

    from Fast Lane Daily???

  • We need more!!

  • thumbs up

  • farms in the city, great idea

  • so everything is self sustained. sounds expensive and not like the normal person could ever do this. haha

  • yaaay

  • cool

  • not too bad the idea.. friends of mine grow there own veg on the top of their house where they installed a green house.. Works pretty well..

  • This is great!

  • not around my area , no big effect ard the world
