I always thought this was the creepiest crap ever when I was a kid!!!! Next to the scene in Darby O'Gill and the Little People when the Banshee appears!
My most vivid memory of this film is when, after Hans stabs the dragon, it plucks at the sword with its forepaw, a great touch that made it look more real. It looks a little fake now, after CGI but at the time it was spectacular!
Cruuuuud this scene is incomplete. I want the "singing bone" as one of the artifacts in the WiiWare remake I'm working on of the old Nickelodeon kid game show "Legends of the Hidden Temple". I need to see the rest of this part of the film, but I can't find it anywhere, so this'll end up being the SECOND episode laid off the lineup! (If you're confused about what I'm talking about, check my channel for further details)
hm. i'm working on telling this story in class and since I've went through the story so many times, this song doesn't really creep me out. which is weird, because i usually freak out over movie posters and music videos, but strangely i'm okay with this. XD
i too saw this in the 60's.The song haunted me for years.Had record as well.Saw film about 10 years ago and messed me up all over again. I just watched this with my daughter leaning over my back she, couldnt understand why I was crying...I cried at the end of karate kid,and im 255lbs landscaper construction..wah!
@BerkLeeDrm I'm 54 and I still cry at the end of The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy tells the scarecrow she'll miss him most of all. Nice to hear I'm not the only cry-baby !
I saw this when I was 3 and haven't seen it since we had the record and wore it out....of all the crap that is out there why was this never put on Tape or DVD
@scub81 VHS version is readily available [Amazon or Ebay]. See web page "United Provinces of Ivanlandia: DVD MIA #2 - Six Unavailable Movies" for explanation why DVD not [yet?] released. URL address not allowed in these YouTube comments for some reason.
you have truly completed a chapter in my life i have searched for this movie and its title since i last viewed it as a child 30 years ago;i absolutely did not think it was going to be on here i always thought it was an obscure filmstrip~but the song was what stuck with me forever and even in the past week and regularly thru out my past ive daydreamed about how it went~thank you so much lol
Hey everyone! Thanks for the all the comments- I would LOVE to upload this entire movie cause I know what a b*tch it is to find, but not only is this movie nearly 3 hours long, but my version is terrible with visual quality and sound throughout 99% of it. I managed to get this little snippet but thats it. If I find a better copy, I'll hook you up, I promise! :)
This was on Turner Classic Movies a week or so ago. I hadn't seen it in probably 40 years. This was my favorite segment of the movie as well. Scared the crap out of me then. Thanks for posting this.
Oh my!! This ALSO used to creep me out! The only time I had seen this was in elementary school and I've never forgotten it because of the sounds. Thank you thank you for posting this clip!
The version of "The Singing Bone" depicted in this film is much different from the original. In this film, it's a dragon instead of a boar. Also, there aren't two brothers, but instead, Ludwig (a knight - parallel to the elder brother), and Hans (his servant - parallel of the younger brother).
But yes, could this whole movie be uploaded (or at least, "The Singing Bone" segment)? I saw it several years ago and loved it; also, "The Singing Bone" is one of my favorite Grimm fairy-tales.
Hmm, could upload the part of the movie like the whole story of The Singing Bone, since you can't upload the whole thing?

Upload the scene where he fights the dragon! I LOVED that scene as a kid and used to sit for hours waiting for it.

What is it saying?
Oh, King ? there's undo my tale
I sleep beneath a tree
My ? Ludwig raised his sword
and pulled it into me
I'll never walk the earth again
or hear a a bird or plant a seed
Did the man who slew me said
He's sorry for the deed

Oh king pray listen to my tale
I sleep beneath the tree
My master Ludwig raised his sword
and drove it into me
I'll never walk the earth again
or hear a bird or plant a seed
Until the man who slew me says
He's sorry for the deed.
