  • You put me on this knife nutnfancy, and I have to say it does not disappoint. I have put mine through hard use and it is still as solid as the day I got it. Great knife.

  • @khonsmosis Nope

  • how is the liner lock for this knife? i just ordered one but i am scare of liners. my S&W line closed on my fingers almost cutting them off.

  • hi

do u have ONTARIO UTILITAC 2 ??? wich is better rat 1 or utilitac 2 ???

  • @nutnfancy Hey Veri, think it's great you seem to have such a good relation to your brother, such things are rare i think. Let your brother know his vids are beast. Thanks a lot for upload. Take care, best regards from Sweden. /Andreas

  • Is this knife spring assisted?

  • So I dont know if this is common or just my knife, but my ontario has an assymetric grind to it. It has a half angle on the back, kind of a downer that I have to reprofile this blade.

  • i just got a RAT 1 for christmas an all i have to say is ITS THE BEST POCKET KNIFE I OWN BY FAR i have a gerber paraframe with its mystery steel and it was blah and now i have a rat one with serration and i just love my rat also i found out about the rat 1 via nutnfancy

  • I saw place online that has them for about 22 dollars, screamin deal. Great customer service, good shipping time, very good prices. Ontario knife store.com

  • i want to see a mora blade put in a folder for under 20$

  • hey Veri, Nutn. i live in Canada and i cant find this knife at a reasonable price, tried online and the cheapest i found was 50$ including shipping and tax. should i settle for that or am i going to get ripped off? thanks guys

  • Hey, I bought a black plainedge, awsome knife! very happy with it.

  • good vid. I don't like the knife due to your review, thanks.

  • Should I get this knife or the gerber covert fast?

  • @ThePumpkinthecat Either get this, the Spyderco Tenacious, or the Kershaw Skyline. All 3 of those are epic choices. The Gerber Covert FAST, as well as all other assisted Gerbers, have very crappy springs that tend to break from only LIGHT use! And the steel is also very poor, where as the 3 knives that I mentioned all use very high quallity steel for the price, can't go wrong with either of the 3. :D

  • Just pruned a palm tree with my rat 1. Big knife=good knife. Love it.

  • Hey Nutn, I've been rocking my Spyderco Tenacious for a year now, and the blade has taken a beating(specifically the tip), so I was looking at retiring it and getting something new and was thinking Rat 1, what do you think? Or do you have a better suggestion? Something with similar size and weight would be preferrable, as big blades are frowned upon here in NZ.

    Cheers,

    Sean.

  • hey nutn whats your likeability scale on this knife

  • 3:30 "AND that's the knife" lol.

But it was an awesome way to spend three & a half minutes. :)

  • this is one bad ass ICON of a knife! if ONTArio sold kydex sheaths so this knife could be carried with the blade open and quickly accessible they would sell like hot cakes

    whaddya think ?

  • @nutnfancy hey, would you recommend the RAT 1 or the spyderco tenacious?

  • best value knife in my humble collection. Dig it!! Thanks for review.

  • Is this blade assisted opening?

  • Should i get combo edge,Plain, or serrated?

  • Why can't I open knifes with thumbstuds....driving me crazy....

My hands are big enough...maybe too big...

    Any tips anyone?

  • @squatpuke Is the screw to tight? Do you have problems with all folders or just this one? You could mod the thumbstud... Its like I always say. Lets all learn from each other. Joe Tactical

  • @squatpuke I can't either for some reason. Not quickly anyway...

  • Nutnfancy would you rather have the serrated or straight edge of this knife?

  • @RushRadi0 Nutn generally prefers straight edge in any knife. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Thanks for the speedy reply do you know why he likes that? and I really appreciate the reviews think they are well done.

  • @nutnfancy Thanks for the speedy reply do you know why he likes that? and I really appreciate the reviews think they are well done.

  • @RushRadi0 They are not easy to sharpen properly and Nutn says that a serrated edge has no advantage over a good, sharp straight edge. Hope that helps. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy One advantage of serrations is that they cut things like cordage with much more ease. Not to say you can't do that with a very sharp knife but you just can't make them sharp enough to cut easily through inch inch and a half thick cordage. I use cordage like this for climbing mostly. If i'm wrong id love to know it and nut knows his stuff :)

  • @nutnfancy Nutn what would you prefer the rat 1 or spyderco tenasious.

  • "Bathroom Reading" that was funny.

  • i'm debating for my EDC with whether

    -RAT1

    -CRKT M16-10KZ

    -SOG flash2 / twitch2 (which iunno yet)

    - or spyderco pacific salt..

if possible i'd like to buy all but i'm tight on money. where i'd use it? -- pretty much slicing papers to cutting ropes, slicing fruits to making feather sticks for camp fire (?)

    any recommendation??? pretty plz?

  • Have You Killed A Man?

  • bought the OD green/ black blade a few months back. It is heavy, but manageable, I did some of my own mods to the gimping as well as to the finger groove for a faster deployment on the thumb stud. I plan to get a second in black handles and plain blade. GO GET ONE!!!

  • i'm in the woods a lot! this knife would work great! and its so cheap! :) cant wait to get it!!

  • @dingoman put pressure up on your thumbstud from the bottom and then turn the tip of your thumb outward and you can even add a little wrist rotation i will make a video

  • this or the tenacious?? I can't decide

  • @OBrien19 I'd say go for this one.

  • @OBrien19 Both!

  • @OBrien19 i have both, and i can say i prefer the tenacious for edc, but the rat1 is a great knife, and it hase more color combos, like the new tan and od green, so if you dont want to scare people with the blade knife, id go with the rat

  • @OBrien19 Unless you have already decided. My Tenacious fell apart. My RAT 1 has chopped up fence boards.

  • Nutn, I don't know if you've done this but after searching the videos I didn't see it. Can you actually show how you open your knives like that? I have been trying to open my rat 1 (bought because of this review) like that, but can only occasionally do it.

  • I love the rat 1 ... The Finsh on it wears quick but its a great knife

  • hey to anyone who can help me out with a question! im woundering if the rat 1 is avalible in stores!? not online

  • @usmc11able I'm in Canada and have been to plenty of knife stores, Iv never seen this knife.

  • have you found the serrations to be durable?

  • Thank you nutn for the review,

it is an outstanding knife, I just love it :)

    Regards from Germany

  • fake!that can;t kill rats!

  • can you carry a knife legally in america

  • @espada1895 yes, but you should check local laws. In some areas you can carry any type of knife as long as it's not concealed, but in others you may be limited to 3 inches out in public.

  • @espada1895 Depends on your state. Check out your state's laws before you try anything.

  • @espada1895 yes..

  • Is there such thing as a perfect knife that meets every expectation?

  • @SKATEFAM0US It all depends on your personal criteria.. there'll be some that'll come really close if you know exactly what you're looking for. Depending on what you're looking for, you could be paying more for a knife that matches your 'ideal'.

  • One of the best!

  • im gonna be honest when i started watching reviews by nutnfancy, i did not like the small slim type knifes like the rat1 and other slim knifes. I was more towards the bigger knives. ex- cold steel ak47,zt0300. But, now that i have gave these lighter slim knives a try i love them. One of the best things i had learned from these reviews is dont judge something too fast. good review!

  • Sweet knife. Just picked it up and It's great. Thnx Nutn!

  • After watching this vid, and other I was under the usumption it was asist open. Mine came today, and to my amazment it's not. All vids i've seen open way faster than mine.

  • @nutnfancy I don't get it. Thats a pretty heavy chunck of steel to carry around in your pocket, and you are always talking about how you don't wind up carrying heavier knives. Personally, I carry one that is 4.2oz, and wouldn't want anything heavier than that.

  • I love these knives, I have the Black, OD green, Desert tan all in satin finish and I am also thinking of grabbing the safety orange model. Every single one came razor sharp, with almost perfect blade centering and deploy fast with thumb pressure alone.

  • Got this knife in the mail the other day... haven't put it down yet. This knife rocks and is on its way to becoming my new favorite EDC blade. Another great purchase made b/c of Mr. Fancy. Thanks and keep the vids coming Nutn!

  • finally purchased this knife

  • @Mannlicherfreak probably not because it's just paint. Other coatings such as Ti-Ni could potentially help with corrosion resistance. Just my .02 :)

  • @jinnaraka

Please do tell jinnaraka, you say "this knife is suck", so what is the design flaw? Simple statements such as the one you posted do not help anyone understand anything. It would be just like if I were to say "jinnaraka is suck" without any other stated facts to inform others as to why I would say such a mindless thing.

  • HEY NUTN THEY JUST RELEASED NEW COLORS OF THIS KNIFE DESERT TAN AND OD GREEN WITH BOTH BLACK N PLAIN BLADES THEIR SWEET!

  • @PinePicker87 Just got my OD one in the mail the other day. Looks sick! :)

  • I usually agree with you on most points... but i love the jimping (not sure i spelled that right) on this knife. feel like it holds great

  • I just got my ontario rat 1 but it extremly stubborn to open, how can I get it to flick open like your knife nutn?

  • @BRAWLERBOY66 if you oil the pivot it should open easier

  • @BRAWLERBOY66 You can adjust the pivot screw, but I usually fine just a little dab of oil will getting going. All of my RAT 1's deploy fast with a mighty thwak that is just so cool.

  • @BRAWLERBOY66 spray some rem oil on the piviot and work it in for a day or two. loosen the piviot screw a little.

  • so is this blade shape good for stabbing somebody in a self defense situation ?

  • URGENT!!!! How does the half and half blade perform when out in the wilds! I have bought one simply because I couldn't get a plain edge and I would like to know if I have made a mistake of not.

  • @BRAWLERBOY66 in my oppinion, yes, you prob made a mistake.

  • nutnfancy you are da bomb! I had you subscribed on my other youtube account....before google demanded for my phone number (screw you google)....thats another story...but I digress you videos are THE BEST!! LOVE IT! Keep em comin!!

  • Would you use this as a tactical more or an EDC because I am currently looking for a tac/EDC combo, either with two knives or the one.

  • hello Veri

  • I will cary that one day ;)

  • What branch of the military were you in, Nutn?

  • Buck Vantage or Rat 1?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, they are verry cheap here in norway, and i will order 3 of them now!

  • just got mine today. great knife. blade spine throws great sparks for all you hikers out there. full flat grind is easily sharperned in the feild. if anyone think this knife is too heavy buy a better belt. for all you shtf guys out there this is the folder i would want to have if I had to bug out. jimping was perfect for me. any sharper and it would become uncomfortable and thats coming from a rough handed construction worker. if you can find one buy one!

  • Can you sharpen this and what do i use

  • Anyone recommending a good folding knife made in the USA? Serrated or not. Useable in a fight.

  • @Victortrotska look up zero tolerance knives, outstanding knives, expensive though

  • @keesurt Yes I did notice their knives recently thanks. The 0100 model is exactly my thing as a fixed blade! But it is over 230$. The ZT0350 looks like a great folding one.

  • Rat-1 or Byrd Cara cara?

  • @ForsakenMelodeath If you can get a RAT 1 you will love it. A seriously great knife for the money. Actually it would still be a good knife at twice the price. Don't have a Byrd so can't comment on them, but they would need to be real slick to beat the RAT 1. Happy shopping :)

  • Used the RAT 1 for the past 2 years and love it. This weekend past I needed to thrash on it a bit in -32 C weather to get a fire going...the liner lock mechanism snapped like a brittle peice of plastic leaving the blade loose and unlockable. Will be replacing it with the same knife...only sharpened a handfull of times despite being my EDC for the full time.

  • @TheStlBoys rat 1 skyyline dont have steel liners in both sides.

  • What is a offset angle on a knife?

  • should i get the tenacious or rat 1?

  • @xlxshanexlx I own the tenacious, and it is probably the best bang for the buck. But now they are about the same price. I just purchased a rat1 online for 29.50. I am waiting to see what the knife is like. I'll let you know. Haha

  • @TheStlBoys I have a skyline and my son has the rat-1. I like the rat-1 better. Skyline is awesome but has sharp edges which is uncomfortable reaching into my pocket when I carry it. Rat-1 has rounded edges and carries very well. I just ordered another rat-1 one for my son so I can keep his.

  • Just curious if anyone would recommend this knife for deployment. I wanted a good multipurpose knife that could take a good beating and still work.

  • While I was watching this video I paused it, looked up the knife and bought it! Shipped I got it for $26! I needed a decent backup knife and think this will go great. 5 ounce knife? I can live with that... I can't wait for it to get here!

  • these are awsome knives... well made for the price..

you can get these on ebay for $25.00

  • wait...nutnfancy is gay ?

  • what was the knife right below this one in the catalog.. good review

  • Thanks, just ordered mine, the satin plain edge version.

  • Do you like the CRKT drifter or this more for EDC and maybe for preparing some kindling

  • Do you have any neck knife ? Can you do a review on ESSE IZULA ?

  • Mine just got stolen out of my car at a local car wash. I was so pissed..... called a cop on them, but the cop never recovered the item for me. I am still pissed (hate thieves).

  • hey nutn/veri would you reccomend this knife as a collectible or only for EDC purposes? thanks

  • @xnickx29 This is my husband's EDC knife. He looooves it. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy thanks :)

  • Hi,

I have a Victorinox One Hand Trekker. How do you think the OHT compares to the Rat1? Is the steel on the OHT so much more inferior that you would not consider buying it over the Rat1, even thought the OHT has more functions?

  • would you say that the corrosion problems of the AUS-8 steel is solved by the black coating on the blade.

    thanks for the riview

  • i dont order my knives from a magazine i go to stores such as walmart scheels and dicks sporting goods. do you think they will have this knife

  • I just paid $32 for mine after shipping and handling. yay.

  • which knife is better for 30 bucks? Kershaw Skyline or Ontario Rat 1, i found an ontario rat with a satin finish instead of that black paint finish , I'm leaning towards ontario, just trying to get some opinions

  • i tryed to get the catalog from BRIGADE QM whats up with that

  • Hey I got a RAT 1 after watching your review on it and I love it! But I was just wondering if you know any way to make the gimping better?

  • hey nutn, what score would you give this knife on your likability scale? Thanks, I'm doing some research about this knife and REALLY wanna get it lol. Thanks again

  • just bought mine ebay 21.99

  • @spikerbrad23 can u send me a link? i saw one for $30 which is the cheapest i saw...

  • @xnickx29 you have to take advantage of the bids on ebay my knife was not a "buy it now" most of the auctioned knifes go for way cheaper then the buy i now knifes so if your willing to wait you can save some money

  • @spikerbrad23 oh ok gotcha. i hate bidding i cant always get to my computer in time lol thanks anyways

  • @xnickx29 well ebay bids for you.... you just enter in your maximum amount and ebay will automatically outbid anyone who bids below your maximum

  • @spikerbrad23 i know dude ive done it many times before lol. i change how much i wanna spend so yeah lol

  • @xnickx29 ontario-knife-store has them for $20.

  • @TheDishD Wow! Thanks dude!

  • @browjonb No prob's bro, they have great prices on most Ontario blades, just got my Marine Raider from them, good service fast postage, say hello to Amy. take care mate.

  • but will it blend?

  • Only nutnfancy can talk for 3 minutes about a magazine

  • Hey nutn, just bought a RAT 1 of ebay for $28.00! Awesome. I got the satin steel finish blade too. Gotta stop watching your vids though, this is the second knife Ive bought based on your vids. (The other was a KA-BAR Utility knife).

    Cheers, Scott from Oz.

  • not sure if this is due to the price bracket, but both the ontario rat one, and the spyderco tenacious, can't handle a spine wack test, both knifes fold ie lock fails, not sure if this is due to the tolerances not being exact or what but never the less its a true fact ive tested both knifes and they fold. despite that in all other respects this is a good knife for the price but there is a reason its cheap spine wack it and youll see :) the byrd raven not as smooth or sexy but it locksup better..

  • awesome blade got the satin finish. Which did have the stiffness in opening just loosen the pivot and carry and use. And after a couple of weeks he is very smooth

  • LOVE the RAT 1...thanks to your review I bought it. i'm justr not sure if this large a folder is legal for CA carry. I've googled and looked at forums but can't find any for knife CA carry laws, but I guess the general rule is under 4" blade is legal. You know of any state-specific sites pertaining to knife carry laws Nut'n or Veri? Bad ass review...as always!

  • @playdrums Wow, so this kind of stuff is happening in the States too? Im in Australia. Its now illegal to carry ANY knife in my state. "Disarm the citizens" seems to be the government catch-cry lately. Whats happening here???? They expect me to use it in my kitchen?? I'll be removing the pocket clip on my RAT 1 so theres nothing visible when it's in my pocket.

    Cheers, Scott.

  • Still love this blade

  • After buying this knife after watching your review I have to say you were spot on! This is a great knife at a great price!

It's a little large for EDC so I'm going to have to find a smaller folder but after not being much of a knife guy I'm getting hooked.

I looked at my old Buck 110 and compared the two and the Ontario buries it in quality imho.

  • Just received three of them the other day to add to growing knife collection thanks to NutnFancy.:D

  • you want a tactical go to search spring assisted extreme serrations

  • is it spring assisted?

  • hey nutn how are your duracoated knives holding up? is the finish harder than the the powder coated blades?

  • this is what i get for watching nutnfancy's videos... i found my next purchase!

  • @GSRGOPEDRIDER247 You'll love it. -- Veri

  • @GSRGOPEDRIDER247 happens a lot...

  • It really is a great knife. It solidly locks, opens in an instant, and just feels well made. Would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a value folder.

  • Is ontario rat 1 single beveled edge or a V edge?

  • These are going for $20 +shipping now. I just picked on up at milspec for $28 including shipping.

  • Comment removed

  • I bought this knife for some of my friends and I was so impressed with how good it is and how inexpensive. I had to buy a few for myself! It just feels solid! Lock is great and fits well in my hand!

  • i got the rat1 and i luv it. plain edge satin finish. the blade is an adequate size i dont like knives smaller than this, because i just need that much length to slice thru objects generally speaking. my god the blade sooo sharp!

  • hey nutn do you like the rat 1 or tenacious more?????

  • @jjay623 He likes the Rat1 better. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy question 2... do you like the black or satin finish more?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey nutn... i was wondering which knife you think is better the tenacious or the rat 1... im interested in both but only have the cash for one of them.

  • @feralkidd My 2 cents: I like both, but only have the Tenacious so far. The Tenacious is lighter and has G10 handle scales which are much grippier. For those reasons I'd recommend the Tenacious over the RAT 1. But again, I'd like to have both.

  • Just received mine today and am very impressed. I got the satin finish plain edge. It came super sharp, and fast opening without me having to adjust the pivot. The scales are a bit too smooth but with the handle shape and jimping on the blade it locks in nicely. Terrific value at $63 Australian. Thanks for the review nutnfancy, you keep putting good blades in my hands :)

  • can i send mine to someone for duracoating?.I don't like the cheap black fiinish on mine.

  • If you only had to pick one low priced, high quality edc knife, what would you pick?

  • So... This vs Buck Bantam BLW vs Xivar Explorer. :) I can't decide...

  • @Smigjo I work at a factory where I use my rat1 many times a day and I've been using mine for over a year now without any problems at all.

  • Great vid!

  • 6:07 "a little bit of it..." ROFL!! excellent review just ordered one!!!

  • "How ya doin?"

  • @nutnfancy how do you think this knife stacks up against the spyderco tenacious? I've know that they are both very similiar but seeing as how I am no knife guru, which one do you think is better?

  • Get the Satin version, it's nicer and more durable. Same price. Awesome folder for the money.

  • what is your exact role and rank in the US military?

  • this is hands down the sharpest knife from the factory I have ever received. It'll cut through anything! I also consider it to be a great replacement for a fixed blade if you want to scale down to a folder. The handle is heavy and long enough to crack skulls. Lastly, this knife cost me 27 dollars (knife works.com - probably the best online knife shop.)!!!!! Get one for camping, tactical, edc whatever.

  • how come you say "how you doin" randomly in a lot of your videos? haha always wondered that./

  • why do some websites list ontario rat 1 folder with a 3.2 blade while others is a 3.6 blade? could someone tell me the difference and why is it priced differently?

  • I think you cab use ANY sharp knife for self defense.Boxcutters have killed and hurt people, unfortunately. If they made this out of VG 10 and it had better texture for grip it would be a good knife for $50.Love the style and blade shape.

  • Is the painted steel the EXACT same steel as the non painted version?

  • @DeluxeWarPlaya ...Yes, and the paint job appears to be a cheap rustoleum type...But it is an Aus-8 painted or not..

  • what kind of knife would you suggest for stabbing into a pirate ship sail and riding down while holding on to the knife as the sail rips?

  • Picked up a satin combo blade for $29 + S/H from CutleryUSA thru Amazon. Great blade for $30. Randall has some 2nd kind of cool due to his long association with Special Forces & SERE. $30 is a nice entry fee for that 2nd kind of cool. The knife is also very capable. But if I had paid more, I would have been disappointed. The back edge of the blade sliced my thumb twice before I realized it. No polish or radius whatsoever. That's 1 way to cut costs! I will hit those edges with a stone.

  • Oh, my bad. The Rat 1 doesn't have G-10 scales....sorry. Still and excellent knife

  • I picked up the version with the black blade and love it. It's built to last from the G-10 scales to the Aus-8 blade steel. I edc this knife and it really takes a beating. In fact, I like it so much that I had to go ahead and get the satin blade version. Can't beat the price, less than $30 each. Keep up the good work Nutn, love your reviews.

  • hey nice vid. Do you think you can make a video about disassembling this knife? I want to disassemble mine to give it a good clean but dont want to break it or not be able to put it back togetherï
