  • This guy has an British accent not Australian.

    Anyways this guy is brilliant

  • i want this car

  • I see two outbacks: 4:41

  • they missed a few comments about the car in the end

  • nice work... should visit the Outback.. (Alice Spring and Tenant Creek is a great place to visit)

Was not expecting this from Subaru Outback.. Tough Hayy!!

    Like the ROAD TRAIN.. haha..!!

  • Nice. Love subaru too.

  • This is a wonderful video!

  • What an awesome video! Makes me want to get my 09 Outback out on the road.

  • Awesome video.....showing the Outback at it's best both car and countryside! Thanks Angus!

  • What makes this video better for me is the knowledge that I have had the privilege of experiencing all that was in this film and much much more myself! I'm proud to be Australian and wish I could find the time to travel out these places more often!

  • i'm thinking i'm buying this car but do anyone knows a car like this but cheaper ?

  • @vvlturn The forester has ever so slightly less room but is cheaper (starts around $20k)

  • @vvlturn : We bought a 2012 Outback 2.5i Ltd. Great car, if you don't mind the slower pickup when compared to the 3.5... for what you get, it is definitely a better all-around deal then the more expensive 3.5.

  • really liked this story. would like to see more like this.

  • adelaide looks boring

  • Very enjoyable video. Makes me wish I won the lottery and could head out with my friends in the outback and treat everyone. And buy my uncle a Subaru who lives out in Colorado, he's always wanted one.

  • i just got rid of a forester xt doing a trip like this end of this year going to take about 3 months to do it , however subaru's highly inflated spare parts and absurd service charges made me get rid of the vehicle shame because they make great cars.

however the only true way to go now i believe is with a toyota.

  • Excellent video. amazing outback views!!!

This is the best video about the outback of Australia I've ever seen. totally worth to spend 30mins watching this film! Im passionate about photography and travel. now im saving money for the Subaru Outback 2005-2006 model, one day I will cross australia just like you guys, but from Sydney to Perth

  • hi australia! his hair..

  • hi australia!

  • 4:04 he must of really been givin'er the current fuel economy was 40.8

  • Americans and Australians have a VERY similar past. This video proves it. Very close to what American settlers faced when they explored the western USA. No need for us to fight , we are children of European ancestors, and like i said have a very similar past and culture. Great video by the way.

  • how did they get back to Adelaide? I don't think they'd drive back.... 3000 miles is A LOT.

  • great Video - Subaru is certainly capable

  • Beautiful video. It made me miss living in Adelaide and my road trips in the Outback to Kakadu

  • Beautiful video. It made me miss living in Adelaide and my road trips in the Outback. Though I did it in a ute.

  • a vast land of nothing... reassures me that the Americas still have the world's most dramatic landscapes..

  • @booggerg have you driven across nevada, kansas or nebraska? talk about land of nothing! Oz has pretty dramatic landscapes to match the US

  • @rsunico1 . Who said about comparing Australia to the worst of US? I'm talking about comparing the best features Americas to the best features of Australia.. Australia doesn't even come close.. No need for anyone in N.America or South America travel to Australia for its geographical features.

  • @booggerg thats your opinion. mine is completely different:

Australia still has (not HAVE) the world's most dramatic landscapes

    no need for further discussion.

  • @booggerg thats your opinion. mine is completely different:

Australia still HAS the world's most dramatic landscapes. Has = Australia is a singular entity.

    no need for further discussion.

  • @rsunico1 Big Sur, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, My Mckinley, Crater Lake, Canyonlands... just to name a few... Can you name an Australian equivalent to any of the few random ones I've just listed? No, and that's my point.. end of discussion.

  • @booggerg obtuse much?

  • @booggerg

The great barrier reef, The bungles Bungles, Kakadu,The kimberley. Cape York wilderness. The Simson Desert,The great Stoney Desert.

The US does not have anything to compere with the vast Australian Outback

  • Great Review. I was seriously considering purchasing a Subaru Outback, but you really helped confirm my decision. This really appears to be a fantastic car.

    Thanks!

  • 7 people missed the LIKE button

  • Ok, you are constantly talking about what the car is doing, but u guys never talk about how good/bad its doing. How does it feel driving?

  • 9:12 the body is bending ? is the body made of cheap plastic ? dissappointed at the bending (when the camerais on the side).

  • @sphinxofthenewage That's heat coming off the road, creating the wavy effect. The Outback has solid outer construction - it does not bend lol.

  • excellent presenter

  • This is so well done. Thank you for sharing.

  • Excellent vid! Just read this article in the current issue.

  • Keep these things coming, Motortrend! They're the best of both worlds: fun consumer cars and beautiful/exotic landscapes.

  • It would off been nice if you had map showing where u went??

  • The best road trip video I've watched so far!

  • thanks motortrend! those road trips are my Favorite!

  • this was amazing, ... like top gear good love this guy

  • this guy reminds me of james may

  • @supra6t9

    its his brother.

  • This video couldn't have been made better. Really beautifully done, music, oh and great car too :) One question though, did you had to go all the way back through the outback to return to the US?

  • My country, a part of it have I have never seen and probably never will!

    Great video!

  • wow i feel like i made good vehicle decisions. i currently own a 2010 Outback 4 cyl and a 2010 Kizashi, both of which were featured in the great road trip films and made it without much incident =].

  • Why OUTBACK only seems to exist in Australia ? Why not in China ? or say .... England !

  • @urkingod They exist in the US and the UK as well. I'm not sure about China.

  • I couldn't careless about the Subaru, but that country of yours is amazing, although I kinda wish you had shown a little bet more of the people around those parts.

  • WOW... Move over Top Gear!

  • this video is a masterpiece

  • Should have brought range rovers

  • Great video! I like the combination of test driving a car and traveling! there would be more interesting if Motortrend included some footages about the interior of the car such as cargo load capability and driving in the cockpit.

  • After watching this, makes me want to take a drive in the outback.

  • 23:00 "I can haz cheeseburger?!"

  • This is something of what Top Gear AUS needed and TG-USA needs.

It's hard to imagine what Mars might look like just after terraforming takes hold. But that is Australia's outback. But genuine automotive adventures, not jack-assery, would be greatly appreciated.

  • I like these long unique videos(:

  • Outstanding road trip, as the last one with the Kizashi.

  • damn ! 62 Wheels ! Triple length ! WOAH !

that subaru went threw allot !

i wonder how many miles the outback has now.

what better way to go threw the Outback ? than in an Outback ? ;)

  • top gear should do a trip in australia

  • @kaimelis Why? Motor Trend just did one.

  • @dolphinstatic because top gear trips are better more interesting and fun to watch. this is good but not like top gears. "Motor Trend" name is not to be compared with "Top Gear". This video is technically good and gives information, but it lacks charm and humor and style. Its a bit to serious too.

  • so you got paid a lot of money to promote this planet killer.. this statement of ignorance on wheels. environmental indifference. don't be fooled people

  • This couldn't have been better. Bravo!

  • Nice infomercial for Subaru

  • I'd love to do this, the mix of flying and driving is near perfect, I'd finish it off by going to the great barrier reef and relaxing afterwards.

  • Beautiful video. Thank you for taking us with you.

  • This has got to be one of the best road trips I have ever seen. Thank you so much for this properly done road trip with the Subaru Outback!!!

  • thank you for the film!! very talented crew worked on it i am sure. now i really want to do the same trip myself!

  • Most likely, I'll never get to visit Australia. So, this huge commercial was worthwhile.

  • I think the ppl making fun of americans in comments here are so funny.....not all americans r fat ignorant and lie like the government. Assuming all americans are the same makes u just as stupid as the "stupid americans" your making fun of. Not to mention thats discrimination, so your just as bad as KKK members or even hilter!

  • @killerbng hahaha, I wonder why people from other country's just assume that. After you look at our reputation it isn't saying much, especially for the last twenty years in the US automotive industry. Sad situation when most "foreign brands" are made more in the US, "with quality" then any of GM or Chrysler's cheap Mexican junk. But assuming that is wrong I will agree. But if we went back to the 1960s and before i wouldn't be ashamed of this mess.

  • @Zinizzle u do mean fords mexican junk and GMs canadian junk right? :) and yes its crazy how no american car is made in america and "foreign" car companys make cars here...its just weird :P

  • @killerbng You have that backwards, GM has the most Mexican part content as of date. With a plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, a plant in Silao, Mexico, Toluca, Mexico. And some more. Ford uses more from Canada as to date. GM's major Canadian plant is in Oshawa. Nope not weird at all, GM and Chrysler with some exception to Ford because they're using Japanese parts, they just want to keep cutting costs. And what better than to pay slave wages in Mexico, and use cheap materials.

  • @Zinizzle then why does every chevy say made in canada on the door and on a NASCAR vid they said ford is made in mexico and GM products in canada? I could be wrong I just go but why I hear :P

  • @killerbng Look at the VIN on the vehicle, on the driver side of the dash. a VIN beginning with the number (2) is (assembled) in Canada. Just because something is assembled somewhere doesn't mean it's "made" there, you have to look at the part content. For instance the Chevy Impala is manufactured in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, but uses a Mexican engine, and who knows what other parts from where. Anything from the dashboard to a piece of chrome, or even the transmission is a "part" then assembled.

  • @Zinizzle ya true, I guess when I hear its made in XXXX. I auto think the parts r made there then assembled. Thank you for the info. Very interesting :)

  • @killerbng Absolutely ;] I just wish more and more Americans will get educated before they make an investment into an automobile. I'm done giving more of my hard earned money to GM so they can continue building junk, and lay more US workers off and send their jobs to Mexico, for cheap labor, and cheap quality. Will stick to my 94 Toyota 4Runner that has 335k on it, nothing done. Also my Tundra is made almost entirely in the US, with quality unlike that of GM and Chrysler.

  • @Zinizzle although I guess from what u said maybe that does make sense, gm made in canada but parts from mexico and vise vera? seems kinda odd but u prob do know more than me...btw the vid im talking about was back when toyota was first joining nascar and the guys were explaining how toyota is more american than american cars :P

  • This one was VERY interesting. I was turned off at the beginning when I saw that this video is almost 30 minutes long, but it was great to watch. Very entertaining.

  • very enjoyable vid, thnx for uploading!

  • I love IKEA!! wait whut? noo.....

  • Incredible video! Thanks MT!

  • That's it! I'm moving to Australia. It's gorgeous!

    Excellent Documentary.

  • Bloody awesome...

  • Absolutely wonderful. Thank you!

  • Amazing adventure, i would like to do this is the New Land Cruiser

  • is the subaru all wheel drive?

  • @boy638 durh!

  • any download link?

  • Love this, and love my Subie! Thanks!

  • And diverse country. Thanks for the insight. The Subie kicked asses .

  • Thumbs up dude. Awesome inside look at the world's most beautiful

  • Wow, that was Epic!!

  • Amazing documentary. Simply amazing. Thank you, Motortrend, for posting this.

  • this video exemplifies what it means to own a subaru

  • WOW that was amazing!!!! I have not seen a film that was so divers and yet all done around a car in a long time. I am amazed at the beauty and majesty of the land in this film! And I would have to say I would love to see more of them. A+ For Sure!!!

  • nice motortrend

  • i was sad when it was over.... it was so good..... great job keep up the good work!

  • He talks more aubout road than car

  • I like this guy!

  • Loved it. You should do more adventures like this.

  • he looks like james may...lol

  • wtf mid way ad?

  • I love my Subie, great steering feel, great handling and AWD grip

  • MOTOR Trend is back baby! this is what we like to see.

  • NICE!!!

  • good but fld 1000th episode at the ring is better

  • EPIC voyage

  • I LOVED my Subaru, my father said his outback was EASILY the best vehicle he has ever driven. Gets you almost anywhere, fun to drive, ergonomic, fuel efficient, good power, what else can I say. If I don't get a new Toyota 4Runner next year, it's going to be an Outback.

  • well i got through to 10:53 but forcing me to watch the ad, drove me away

  • Do the same thing with a svt raptor or a wrangler

  • 140 Degrees???????????

  • One of the most entertaining, interesting, beautifully filmed, well produced car video pieces I've seen.

  • @texasyank48 I so so so so so so so AGREE with you!!!

  • Great job motortrend!

  • I am so glad I found this video:) what a great coffee break. I have seen a lot of car related vids but this guy is good. much better than Top Gear America.

  • Amazing docu.. MotorTrend should make more of this and post it on youtube (",)

  • Awesome Video! Beautifully shot and narrated! Less emphasis on the car, and more on the journey. Love it!

  • amazing video, i wish you would present with the map!

  • Thanks for great vid and WTF YT for serving me 5 commercials from start to finish.

  • I love everything about this video!

  • yet another excellent roadtrip!

  • Haha there is plenty of Tarmac in Australia, I live in Melbourne, definitely not a desert. About 10% of Aussies actually live in the desert

  • This road trip is great...At least once, before I die, I'm going to visit Australia...Have been fascinated with this country for quite some time, and this video only makes it worse. Thanks!

  • @tg72211 except that he has absolutely no sense of humor... Where James May and Jeremy Clarkson have tons, Top Gear UK just can't be topped by you stupid Americans.

  • @123098qazplokm Dude, have in mind that it's probably Motortrend policy to keep it mostly a car-programme, not a car-show, as Top Gear is. They're not even trying to copy TG, and that's good, cause no one likes copy-pasters, and yes - no one really can top TG.

    Cheers!

  • @123098qazplokm come on man that's a bit harsh

  • @123098qazplokm Motor Trend is a print and paper magazine, not a television show. This was made strictly for the internet. Us stupid Americans like to read.

  • @123098qazplokm I am American and I agree haha. Love Top Gear UK.

  • @123098qazplokm i lol @ idiots like you... they are old men, and the jokes are scripted on tguk.

    also, he is australian.

  • not alot of tarmac in australia :)

  • You could sell this to Discovery, History, or Speed channel. Great show.

  • very nice vid! really makes me want to visit Aus in the same way.

one thing, why the chinese music at the very end? lol

  • amazing.

  • Enjoyable, factual..

  • 20:06 One thing I'd like to point out and comment on is that, when it comes to hauling heavy loads, the focus is on torque, not horsepower. A new Corvette Z06 produces 505 horsepower, but its 470 ft.lbs pales in comparison to the 1800 ft.lbs that semis set up for heavy hauling can produce (and very frequently exceed). It certainly also helps semis' transmissions can have up to eighteen gears.

  • This makes me want to go to Australia even more now. Thank you for showing me your beautiful country Angus, I appreciate it. :)

  • this stuff is great. makes me want to take a road trip of my own. brilliant! These road trip videos are motortrend's finest offering.

  • this stuff is great. makes me want to take a road trip of my own. brilliant!

  • Thank you for this road trip video.

I have always wanted to visit the real outback

  • Very Good Video Thanks MotorTrend!

  • Thank you for sharing a bit of your country with us.

  • This is awsome!!!! Yall should do more road trips like this one!!!! BUT I have to point out that we have road trains here in america only we dont call them road trains we call 'em triples

  • What a fantastic production!!! Maybe some day a membero of the motortrend team will do a video crossing the US... with as much true charactor and passion as was delivered here. WTG Motortrend.

  • i've always hated motortrends ..well i forget who he is.. but this australian host.. he's annoying and doesnt seem as into the whole scene and he's just not that entertaining.. and his long hair.. (extra long) makes him look messed up... im entitled to my own opinions.. just sayin don't like him

  • Great job MotorTrend

  • I watched the hole thing cause subaru's are my fav!

  • why theres stupid commercials in the middle of the video

  • @WesleyConoway good point

  • More of these! lol I enjoyed it alot. Very well done

  • Very well done segment.

  • Very high quality production.

  • 17:57 retarded camel FTW!!!

  • please do more of these road trips they are great

  • Very good video!

  • Thank you for joining this road trip to a car that I have been considering for a long time.

I had the chance to visit Australia 20 years ago, and this brought back some fine memories

  • This should be aired on TV. It's beyond anything Motor Trend has even done, and is a true masterpiece. Simply, the most epic thing MT has ever posted, and one of the greatest anywhere.

  • Using some Australia-specific model, like Ford Territory or Holden Adventra, instead of Subaru might have added a bit to this documentary.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks

  • Australia FTW

  • It must be good to know that if motortrend ever fails as a car reviewer that they can just hire this guy full time and do more of these informative/documentary style videos.
