The refinery is just a way of getting a foothold in the area, after a number of years the well will not have enough pressure to get the gas to shore and they will then have to put a rig out there. Well, we could all give up, sit back and let corporations bully, steal and rape our lands. We could put our heads down and let corrupt officials get away with it. Or you can make a stand for the rights that people over the years have died for. We can show solidarity with our fellow man, stand up to bullies, work together for the common good. We do it to win of course, but if we lose we can at least turn to our children and say we were part of the solution and not the problem. Why don't you?

Communists aren't enviromentalists. Look at russia and china's pollution record. As for atheism, the local priests are involved in the movement, i'd hardly say their atheists. Had this of happened anywhere in the United States, the pigs would have tasered, gased, and murdered as many of the protesters as they could, confiscating as much of the video evidence as they could find -- and then blame their crimes against us as "fighting terrorism."
These police were polite, professional -- utterly unlike what we're facing here in the United States under this Christian fascist State.

The police did what they were paid to do: protect the wealthy and FUCK the actual citizens while also fucking the environment. The police in this instance were well behaved, something that they should be lauded for, though. The piggies did a very good, professional job with the protesters -- it's a shame the pigs side with the planet killers.

The cost of developing the field was originally estimated to be €1.5billion. The current corporation tax charged by the government for mining and exploration activities is 25%. If the jobs that have been created are included in this along with the benefits to the local economy and benefit health, education and transport.
So, DrFoxtopus how is there no cash coming to Ireland??

He was talking about all of the resources being handed out. The Corrib gas field is a small portion at 8 Billion Euros, controlled by: Shell (45%), Statoil (36.5%) and Marathon (18.5%).

Between 1975 and 1987 Bertie Ahern and Ray Burke, had the tax knocked down form 50% to 25%, then allowed that 25% to be offset by a 100% taxwrite off any production and development costs for up to 25 years. Therefore the tax is pretty much zero. If you have any actual evidence to the contrary, please do give me your sources.

There's no cash coming in from the corrib gas field into the country, that's off to the Uk, U.s. and Norway. Plus we wouldn' be here if we weren't requested and supported by the local people.
