  • Eternal Champions, for all its shortcomings, was a much better fighting game for Genesis.

  • /watch?v=tkPuOvzXRoM

  • I just bought this on Steam without realizing it was the Genesis version. Goddammit.

  • @Letters2324 So? It's still awesome!

  • @Letters2324 Same

  • @Letters2324 damn, almost did the same mistake, glad to you I avoided it, feel sorry for you though

  • See also Virtua Fighter Mini (a.k.a. Virtua Fighter Animation), based on the Virtua Fighter anime.

  • this game blew, i played it once on sega channel back in the day and vowed to never play it again. the 32x virtua fighter on the other hand was not so bad.

  • seeing as i prefer 2d fighters over 3d fighter i actually really like this version of VF not the best in the series but is still worth while

  • I have VF2 on the Wii's Virtual Console. Considering they tried to release a 3d fighter on a 16 bit system in 2D, this game isn't that bad. What else do you expect the Genesis to pull off?

The only problem is, it's lacking the 2 added characters from the original VF2, Shun Di and Lion Rafale. With out them, you should actually consider this a 2D version of Virtua Fighter 1, not Virtua Fighter 2.

There's also massive slow-down when fighting Dural.

  • I watch first it. The Genesis version is 2D fighting?

  • I really never understood the point of porting this game to the Genesis. What made Virtua Fighter so popular to begin with was the fact that it was a 3D fighting game! You removed the 3D aspect then you're basically left with a lame 2D fighter with no projectiles, big combos, or finishing moves (which is was standard for 2D fighters back then).

  • @Forzaabruzzo What are you talking about...? This version of the game came out first -_-

  • @matosaification What are YOU talking about?

The genesis ver. was a 2D port. The first ever ver. was Arcade(in 3D), then Sega Saturn(in 3D), THEN genesis(2D), then PC(3D) and finally for PS2(3D)

  • Nice to see they kept the glitchy footage in the trailer, doesn't exactly give you much hope does it?

  • Sarah is The BEST :D

  • I know I'm statign the obvious but the PC game is alot better. Played that alot back in the day

  • I think they could have gotten more form the Genesis out of this game. The Genesis was capable of 3D prerendered backgrounds, and 2.5 D game engines. This must have been a rush job.

  • I don't remember any 2.5D game engines? Cite?

  • this is but genesis and 3d? where do you get that from?. genesis can imitate scaling and rotation but it has no suporting hardware for anything in the vein of mode 7 it only can trick it's was throught, altought svp was and awesome idea used in Virtua racing.

  • @aryinc

It is capable of using the M68000 as a vector processor giving it the ability to use the Z-80 to perform physics and collision calculations. Meaning that it can do flat shaded polygon games, check F-22 Raptor on the Genesis. However the framerate is quite derp.

  • @eggsyummy35 yeah which games ued 2.5d game engine on Genesis?

  • Comment removed

  • no!sega genesis(sega megadrive)THIS IS AN OFFICIAL ISO with 31 genesis games including sonic, virtua fighter 2,golden axe and many other!it is available ONLY FOR SONY's PSP

  • thank! xD

  • no problem

  • Correction: it features 28 games, and was also released for Playstation 2!

  • yeah you are actually right!thx for saying :D

  • lol 3d > 2d

  • I kinda miss games like this. I miss 8, 16 and 32 bit generation:(

  • hey,wat part of this game is from 1995 dont u understand!this game has perfect graphics for that old of a game,so is virtua cop 2 sega aswell same year!stop hating!

  • part 5 for ps3 has some good as graphics

  • omg, so stiff! yuck! buy SF II SCE!

  • Oh oh!

    I'm terribly sorry!

I didn't mean to say anything so crude.

I don't think peoples' other acquisitions on this game are right.

For the Sega Genesis era these are very good graphics.

Its a 2D fighting game that looks great for its generation of gaming.

This game is criticized for such aspects, but they forget that its still a side scrolling virtua fighter game only on the Sega Genesis.

Besides, its still a really fun game!

  • WoW, they have a virtua fighter 2 genesis??? i have virtua fighter 2 for the saturn and this looks by far better.

  • Well duh.

16 bit cartridge technology from 1988 isn't going to look as good as a 32 bit disc driven system that came out in 1995.

  • I meant the genesis version looks better....more fun..cooler!

  • yeah ivealways liked 2d fighting games better

  • wow it doesn't looked that good, like graphicly designed. i adless thought the game would kinda look like street fighter 2

  • my final word on any virtua fighter or tekken is there no sreetfighter are they

  • I find this game pretty addictive, its cool on PSP

  • Tekken is a button mashing shitfest.

Virtua Fighter took actual skill. You wouldn't get for in VF by mashing random buttons.

  • actually i absofrikinlutely pwned the game by button mashing.

  • Not this game Forever!!!! but sega yea!!

  • SEGA FOREVER ¡¡¡¡¡

  • While it may not be a 3D polygonal, texture-mapped graphics game, it still has very good graphics as a stand-alone 16-bit 2D game.

  • Virtua Fighter started before Tekken. Dur dur durrrr.

  • And was actually good.

  • no it didnt they came out about the same time

  • Virtua Fighter is shit anyway i prefer tekken but the megadrive version is dire

dont why they brought this out

  • hey malc1976 who cares man if you preffer tekken we like virtua fighter and if you wanna say oh tekken is better stfu go watch tekken videos cuz we really dont care about your opinion we are just annoyed

  • holy shit that was sweet

  • uhh thanks?

  • I was talking about what you just said. I thought the same things so... well said =)

  • whats the newest virtual fighter? i Stopped after 2.

  • i think 5

  • Yeah your right.

  • i got virtua fighter5 only cause i was waiting for tekken6 its amazing but like all of theam no endings when you complete it in that way you feel a bit robbed do you agre?

  • I have the Sega Genesis Collection, boy can i love Virtua Fighter 2 *turns on his Ps2 to play it :)*

  • At least the gravity seemed to work in that version! =P

  • true never seems like it does in 3d fighters

  • FUCKING HELL THIS IS JUST HORRIBLE!

  • I was so pissed when Sega buchered up one of my favorite fighting franchises

  • This is an offense to the glorious arcade original.

  • Glorious my ass, foda23. Sure they were the first to do a fighting game in CG, but that doesn't mean it was a great game or that they "paved the way for 3d fighting generations" by a longshot. First off, was Sega thinking about gameplay when they made this game? Like how it always took 6 seconds to get up and during that time they could hit you on the ground? Or how they jump 30 ft in the air and take about a minute to land on the ground?

  • Well, when you make something new and revolutionary, of course there will be problems in hindsight. VF was the first to incorporate real world fighting into 3-D form, and being the first 3-D fighter definitely means that if others followed, it paved the way.

And you sound like someone who hasnt even played this game. You get up in like 2 secs, and you jump roughly your height. Someone's being way too bitter. I thought it was fun when it came out in arcades.

  • Wrong. You're even neglecting that it stole many many gameplay techniques from tekken in it's later installments. It was the first to use CG but Killer Instinct looked more real and came out only a year after without using CG. Namco was making Tekken at the same time, but didn't rush for its release. VF wasn't in the spotlight for very long at all. Others came after VF, not BECAUSE of VF.

  • In terms of gameplay, Virtua Fighter gained credit(technically or not) for being the first fighter to incorporate real life fighting techniques.

Its mass popularity undoubtedly affected the field.Tekken came out when 3d fighting was the new fad. VF was recognized by the Smithsonian Institute for its achievements in the arts. Was I supposed to recognize the faults of the sequels? No. I was gushing about the goodness of the first and second.

  • Length of time in the spotlight doesnt mean jack. Wolfenstein 3d was there and quickly overshadowed by Doom, but Wolfy was considered the daring pioneer.

How was anything I said in my first reply "wrong" in any way? I thought it was fun, I stated a statistic, then an opinion. Other fighters were successful because of VF. Looking more real is an argument that just stepped out of the whole debate.

  • VF was rushed, that's the only reason it came first, it was their platformer for 32X because they wanted to beat Nintendo and failed miserably. The fact is sega wasnt the only company designing 3D games and nobody copied them, they just waited until the proper technology was there. Real life fighting techniques?

  • The only realism I see in VF is that none of them have any "powers", but even worse the characters and bosses were uninteresting. Dural?! Not to mention nearly all movements of every character looked the same.

  • Yes. Real life fighting techniques. VF had them. Meaning different moves, which VF had in droves.

VFII for Saturn is my all time favorite fighting game because the fighters were different in their own special ways.

Whether characters are interesting or not is a matter of opinion. I guess I was just turned off by a guy with a cat head.

  • If you're referring to Kunimitsu, thats a mask. I say uninteresting because honestly, do you really think they put any effort into Dural's or Goh's design? Or lets compare Akira to... Kazuya? Lau to Feng Wei and Lei Wulong? Kage to Law? Dural to Yoshimitsu? Sarah to Nina Williams? Jeffry to Eddy? There weren't many options, the techniques were repetitive and many moves were just clones of each other, such as the backflip kick.

  • no he's talking about king

  • I'd rather play someone with a jaguar mask than a one dimensional Ryu copy only he can't throw projectiles. Pass.

  • ok so what makes tekken more realistic than virtua fighter.the series used actual humans as fighters and used real fighting styles. They also dont have use super long 10-hit combos and have orange, blue, and red balls around everytime someone touches them

  • Just because something is realistic doesn't mean it has to be batshit boring.

  • its not that its boring.its just fun when u know how to play it.and u said the only thing u saw realistic about vf was that they didnt have any powers.

  • VF being realistic is a bullshit concept since it has linear combat and characters that aren't quite believable but aren't interesting enough to care about either. On the same token, you used "they have graphics for the connected and blocked hits, so it makes it less of a game" as an argument.

  • less of a game????but it makes it more of a fighting game though.when u fight in real life,do u want balls to come around u every time u get touched like tekken(not dissin).u are right when u say that the characters are not even important though.but let me know how the characters are not believable.i belive akira would use a style like karate just because of the way he dresses

  • Since I pointed out Dural many times I'll move on to say... Kage? He's your stereotypical ninja. Ninjas do not show up to mixed fighting tournaments in bright blue, and never fight in hand to hand combat on purpose. That would be fine if there was anything else to him.

The "balls" are to indicate connected hits and whether they're high-mid-low attacks. It makes a difference. It has to do with gameplay so you have to know a bit about tekken to understand it.

  • i know that.and yes i play tekken a lot(catch me on tekken 5 dark ressurrection online on ps3.psn username the same one on youtube).i was just pointing out the fact that it doesn't happen in real life.anyways i guess i know what u mean now when u say the characters are not believable

  • LilKISSman- Since you weren't paying attention to anything I said, I'll explain again... I'm criticizing the entire game, not just the graphics. The characters fucking suck and many gameplay mechanics in VF5 is stolen from Tekken.

Aside from the fact we're talking about the originals you fucking moron.

  • oi im not a moron the onli moron round ere is u for bein a prat nd bein peckish- i was just makin a point so up urs- ill admit that previous game of vf suck a bit but im more into games tht dont have silly lightnen bolts flyin aroundd when u hit sum1 yet i do like the MK series- soz if i upset u- i like tekken- seeee dus that make u feel beta- yes i like tekken nd vf!!!! u happi now?

  • no you are a moron and you need to learn how to spell how the hell do you expect anyone to read that

  • hey zero skater i was in a rush

  • look all came from real life fighting

  • Not bad for Megadrive. Not at all.

  • omg, that looks...2D :) - well, i prefer the saturn version

  • ok this game may be really bad but you got to admit it needs some balls to have such a lousy idea and even publish it

btw the characters' faces look exactly like the arcade counterparts

  • not that bad, but not that good either. worth if you had the megadrive only.

  • this game was 2d on the genesis?

  • i have this on wii virtual console, and the saturn version :)

  • in the UK, the genesis is called a Megadrive, felt like sharing that with all you yanks/japs

  • was called the megadrive in japan aswell

  • ah, my bad

  • Sega so stupidly released this for Genesis.

As if the Genesis 32X didn't exist,

nor the Virtua Fighter 32X game.

  • this game is now coming out on Wii's virtual console...should i get this game?

  • I love the Virtua Fighter series, the Genesis version was crap.

  • Looks diferent from the Saturn version.

  • That's because it is different. This was on the Genesis.

  • Thanks for reminding me on that since the title is up there. Is it possible that the mechanics in the Genesis was not strong enough to have the same graphics like the Saturn?

  • um...don't you mean the Saturn was the Genesis' SUCCESSOR? and yes the Genesis wasn't as strong as the Saturn...nowhere near as strong...

  • yes you've got me! i meant successor, 10 points to you! we already know the saturn was more powerful, in it's time it was a next generation console, it's really not that important, case closed.

  • Hey, thanks for your reply, dickweed. Do you like it when people reply to you the same way, jack-off?

  • Fuck yourself, you Anglo. For your fucking information, yes, I am an American citizen, but I am not white like you. I am a fucking Asian-American, pussy face. Idiots like you should be euthanized.

  • Wow. You guys are boooooooored. 6arcsn1sky, chill, crazyassassin, don't encourage him.

  • ANOTHER game besides Tekken that helped define the '90s. Good work!! :0)

  • Oh this game was fun!! when there was no existing VF2 on Saturn or no way to get a closer version, but nowadais it's got his value damaged because you can play a whole better version, not only for the graphics.
