I used to be in charge of a carbon offsetting programme for a major UK distribution company in the mid-2000s. After a couple of years, the board found out the whole scheme we were part of (supposedly planting trees in Bolivia) was non-existent & fired me for ‘incompetence’.

However, they had to pay for my silence with 2 years’ salary and a fantastic reference as they didn’t want the bad PR to get out. From what I hear on the grapevine, I think most offsetting schemes are like this...

@rickpogany theoretically, of course ;) the planet will, ironically, (and to the idiotic dismay of the MMGW-crowd) fight back against CO2 reductions. However, the allure of a whole fresh, new, economy which anyone can get in on early will, naturally, attract a large swath of those just interested in profit. Suggestion: get an anti-MMGW group to pool 15k into carbon credits. If the mmgw crowd wins, ur invest provides the seed $ to keep fighting. If WE win, the lost investment was worth the risk

What about the carbon taken to build the windfarm? how many kwh per building each wind turbine?How long will it take to return? The efficiency of wind turbines is horrenously low, I've heard it postulated that if we could freeze carbon on every facet of life and devote all our resources into wind turbines, we would probably go extinct before coming out of energy deficit.

Something I'm positive of is that the President can't know that the use of hydrogen by electrolysis has recently been perfected to conclusively produce completely thorough internal combustion engine performance in avarage gasoline and diesel engines using platinized titanium-based hydrogen generators, easily retrofitted to any vehicle with such type of engine. This is the way to turn heads at the Copenhagen summit, with hard science and proven testing by NASA back in the early Seventies.
