Amongst the vast body the Kinks work, Preservation holds a VERY SPECIAL place in my heart. It was the first time I had ever seen them in concert and I was smitten. I like at lot of other bands but I love the Kinks.
I think this might be the Greatest Song ever written of all time, ..... Drink a cup of coffee and listen to this whole thing at 1;00 pm ,...turn it up loud ,... and you'l agree ,..never mind that the lyrics are brilliant and the amazing arrangement ,...the whole album is one of rock's master achievements ,..
Preservation Act 2 was truly a remarkable achievement. Ray has always been well in front. The Workers told the Unions to blame it on the Government, The Politicians blame it on the Strikers and the Militants. lol. Incredible song. Thank You, SIR RAY !
Preservation Act II is blistering pretty well end to end. Perhaps because the series was largely a commercial flop, Ray was once quoted as saying "If ever there was a time we should not have been let near a studio, this was it." I rank it among the band's finest worl.
I'm surprised at how relevant the lyrics of this song are to the strife going on today (in America at least). Everyone needs to take a step back and see how their petty squabbling isn't accomplishing anything. The world would be a better place if The Kinks were required learning in school.

@SteveStLaur Not so: Preservation 1 and 2 are the two albums Ray Davies is most proud of - to this day. :)

@EwokLol
I agree. It's one of my favorite songs. I wish someone would do a good re-make of it.
I love the lines
"Everybody's guilty and everybody's innocent, but the fact of it is nobody gives anymore." -and-
"I'm only sitting here watching it all go wrong and listening to both sides"
.
I think the whole album was way ahead of it's time. Check out "Artificial Man", too.

The lyrics, the guitar work, it must be The Kinks.
