John Mayer Trio - Who Did You Think I Was

I'm only here because one of my students keeps raving about Mayer. As a musician I won't name a band after myself and I won't play in a band named after someone else in the band. This thinking misses the point of a band-to create synergy ...and why the magic of groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones has become so rare.

@RycheChamps True, but John Mayer is a solo artist, always has been. The John Mayer trio was really a project. Steve Jordan (Drummer) and Pino palladino (Bassist) are well respected session musicians. Besides, John Mayer wrote all of the songs and if it wasn't named after him they would not be able to sell tickets for the tour, they would be put down as an unheard of band.

@stockmarket101 You can hear it on the 'of' in the sentence "I am a shifter OF the shape I'm in". That is a very particular sound autotune makes when it's not clear what note to chose. It very quickly changes from one note to the other which you can hear on that word. But I don't want to make a big fuzz about it. I'm a JM fan myself, but it's a shame they oversaw that glitch.

@stockmarket101 yeah you should ;). I'm a professional singer myself, so I'm used to listen to the details in the music as well. As a musician you surely understand what I mean. I get really frustrated in the fact that everyone thinks they're a singer nowadays, they record songs with loads of autotune and BAM! a new artist is born. So my ears are kinda sensitive to autotune. Dudes like JM shouldn't have to use this, but of course the fans demand perfection, hence: Autocorrection!

Mayer Trio is awesome, but I must agree with Jonahtran1, SRV were a better Jimi imitator :/ But Mayer does a better job playing his own stuff, where SRV were 100% Jimi imitator and couldn't do his own style. Of cause this is my opinion :)

This band as a whole is incredible, for the size of his kit Steve Jordan can totally rock out, Pino Palladino is putting out some funky ass bass lines and John Mayer is tearing it up on guitar. The Trio is honestly one of my favorite bands.
