I have recently read several articles citing that Iranian air capability is far below US standards. Mostly due to the fact that Iran is still operating older models (as front-line aircraft) such as F-14A, F-4J, and MiG-29S, and even J-7 as their primary Air Force composition.
If this is really the case then I can't see Iran as standing a snowballs chance in hell versus the USN or the USAF. Especially when considering that the Tor-M1 is Irans best SAM system.

There aerospace industry is near that of the US in terms of quality, especially when you look at the SU-30, SU-35, and SU-37's capabilities. Not to mention the new PAK-FA/T-50.

Iran has a total of 44 F-14As of which only 28 are fully operational. Iran has a $9,174,000,000 USD Defense budget leaving it little room to purchase new Aircraft. At they end of the day Iran is far from being the top dog in the region.
All of these Iranian aircraft have one thing in common...their name. TARGET! BTW, Saeqeh is an upgraded F-5 derivative. The F-5 is a delightful airplane to fly and, in the hands of a Top Gun instructor, can be a reasonably effective adversary for in-close training. Would I want to fly against the Airdales on the Stennis in one? No thanks. Even with its upgrades, Saegeh is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

The AWACS type plane in the video was one of many Iraqi Air Force planes "borrowed" by Iran when Saddam sent them to Iran in the first Gulf War. It crashed during a "military day" air show and landed on Ayatollah Khomeni's grave...Karma's a bitch ain't it. A lot of those MiG fighters were also "donated" by Saddam. The Saegah(sic) indigenous fighter is just a rework of the old F-5 fighters the USA handed out to it's allies in the 60's and 70's.

@grimm61111 Why do you discount the F-4? It has a long history and record of carrying out successful missions in Vietnam. Pilot training and knowing what the F-4 can and can't do will overcome its faults.
On paper, to put an F-4 against a Mig-17 or MiG-21 in a dogfight is suicide but, the superior training of U.S. pilots over barely trained Viet Cong pilots enabled F-4 jockeys to win such engagements. Air-to-air missiles make dogfighting a moot issue anyway.

Sure the F14 and the old hardware can shoot down an object today like it could back then, but today we have more thorough countermeasures and US pilots WILL have more flight time in their aircraft and know what to do and how the airplane will handle if they need to start avoiding missiles. We produce the parts that break or wear out in our aircraft, the same can not be said for the Iranians.

The AWACS type plane in the video was one of many Iraqi Air Force planes "borrowed" by Iran when Saddam sent them to Iran in the first Gulf War. It crashed during a "military day" air show and landed on Ayatollah Khomeni's grave...Karma's a bitch ain't it. A lot of those MiG fighters were also "donated" by Saddam. The Saegah(sic) indigenous fighter is just a rework of the old F-5 fighters the USA handed out to it's allies in the 60's and 70's.

Sorry to say, but all of these air crafts are out-dated pile of aluminum. Yes they may be able to do some damage to the Afghani, Iraqi, or other poor countries in the neighborhood, but thats it. 1i 1972 when F-14 was the top dog in the sky, ours were lacking the avionics that could track and sestroy multy target. USA did not want us to have that capability...yes they new what they were going to do in near future.

@grimm61111 Why do you discount the F-4? It has a long history and record of carrying out successful missions in Vietnam. Pilot training and knowing what the F-4 can and can't do will overcome its faults.
On paper, to put an F-4 against a Mig-17 or MiG-21 in a dogfight is suicide but, the superior training of U.S. pilots over barely trained Viet Cong pilots enabled F-4 jockeys to win such engagements. Air-to-air missiles make dogfighting a moot issue anyway.

@gregrutz IRIAF still have shitload of Phoenixes left. and i'm sure they'll reverse-engineer the Phoenix,modify/upgrade and make them locally. they also modified their reverse-engineered MIM-23 SAM for use as air-to-air missile on their F-14s.
their F-14's AN/APG-71 radar, engines and spareparts were also reverse-engineered,upgraded and made locally. so don't tell me they can't use them. but their F-4s are gonna retire soon.
BTW, any AIM-54 > all of the AIM-120 series. everyone knows that. LOL

@gregrutz wrong. F-14, their AIM-9L, AIM-7, and the AIM-54 are just around 30+ years old lol. same age like your main fighter jet, the F-15. they don't reverse-engineer the F-4 lol that shit is useless for air combat nowadays.
everybody in the USAF, including the US government themselves know that the F-14's radar, missiles and weaponry is superior to the F-15. even though all of them were really old, but they still can keep up with today's warfare tech.

@itom95 You forgot about Stealth. You can't shoot down what your radar can't see. One F-22 Raptor can defeat 5 F-14s.

@gregrutz lol radars can see the F-22 after it's weapons bay door opens. also, stealth aircraft can be detected using modified ultra low frequency and powerful radars.
the F-14's radar was one of the most powerful system installed in aircrafts, besides the MiG-31's Zaslon radar. and they can be modified to use low frequencies.
lol Iran fought the last war, american style, and taught by the US army officers and won the Iraq-Iran war with so little casualties.

The more powerful the radar the easier it is to shoot at.
Stealth planes don't fly alone, there are 'radar jammers' that fly with them.
BTW, Iran fought the war in trenches, like WW1, and lost lots of people.

@itom95 Yeah. When their weapons bay door open they can track it. I'm sure Iranians will exploit them for example use decoys or distraction to force them to fire and in that few seconds they'll engage those F-35's and take them out.

Sure the F14 and the old hardware can shoot down an object today like it could back then, but today we have more thorough countermeasures and US pilots WILL have more flight time in their aircraft and know what to do and how the airplane will handle if they need to start avoiding missiles. We produce the parts that break or wear out in our aircraft, the same can not be said for the Iranians.
