THE PLANS FOR THIS STADIUM DESIGN HAS NOW BEEN ABANDONED BY FSG. LIVERPOOL FC WILL NOW BE USING THEIR ORIGINAL PLAN FROM 9 YEARS AGO AS BASIS TO CREATE THE NEW STADIUM. WHETHER THIS IS THE SAME DESIGN OR A MODIFIED VERSION WE'LL EVENTUALLY FIND OUT SOON.
HKS designed this stadium from the specifications LFC officials wanted, not from the specifications of HIcks and Gillett. The only link HKS has with Hicks and Gillett is being commissioned by them. Are you going to disassociate with LFC season ticket holders?
Unfortunately, there are no guarantees there will ever be any planning consent to redevelop Anfield, much less any time soon. Concerning consent, why reach for a bird in the bush when you have one clutched in your hands already?
In the same way that Liverpool is a unique club, and Anfield is a unique stadium, this stadium is truly unique and that is what we need; to stand out from the crowd. These are the times for a revolution at Liverpool; we finally have decent owners and a team that will be challenging for trophies in a few seaons. We need a new stadium to go with it. Anfield is simply to old and does not have the surrounding area to expand effectively. We need to stop living in the past and welcome a new generation
@BipBapCam Thanks for taking the time to leave a well thought out reply. I agree with everything you're saying but I can't believe for one moment that the new owners would go with a design which is linked with the previous owners. I think the fans would also dislike the idea of anything so important being linked to their time in charge. It's a shame but I just can't see it happening.
Of what I know of, this is the only large modern looking stadium in the world that keeps the traditional 4 separate stands that makes the atmosphere in many british stadiums so unique. The ONLY decent thing Hicks ever did at Liverpool was getting it redesigned to this. The original design was just like the Emirates: it looks beauitful but its bowl-shape (put together with the terrible arsenal fans) ruin the atmosphere. Nearly all modern stadiums are made like that, but this design is so unique!
The only thing I would change is to change the trim of the glass with more of a Victorian trim matching closely the Gladstone Conservatory in Stanley Park... Currently the trim is too a bit too simple looking too much alike shopping malls security doors...
Google street view shows you all the houses boarded up. I then searched and found an image of the street on flickr and someone posted that it was LFC who was buying the houses. Not 100% proof but it makes sense. If you try street view there is a council sign which says the area is being regenerated so it could be the council buying the houses but I still think LFC is more likely.
Its the fans inside that made Anfield special, not its bricks and mortar. Redevelopment requires to demolish a street of homes here, move a street there, and rebuild two or three stands. Anfield won't be the same after adding 25k seats. Not to mention the three years or so of a construction mess underfoot, not across the street.
@SeaToby11 - I agree completely but after reading through some posts on the Liverpool forum I'm afraid a redevelopment is looking much more likely. If you use google street view you can see that LFC have been buying up all the properties in nearby streets ready to demolish whole rows. I would much prefer a brand new stadium with no restrictions but I don't think it's going to happen.
FGS is going to mail letters out to those on the ST waiting list to see how many of the 70k are real... If say 20k or more are real on the list, they will build new. If there are only 10k on the list for real, they will redevelop Anfield... Much depends upon the ST waiting list...
The glass is in the corners where the main lobby is similar to a shopping mall entrance. That is waxed shiny green tile, not aluminum or glass, which wraps the stands. Being green to merge with the park. What I like this design the most for is that sits within Stanley Park, which by the way isn't flat, with four stands at different elevations. The tallest stands at the lower elevations and the shorter stands at the highest elevation...
DO NOT BUILD ANOTHER STADIUM, get planning permission and extend the original anfield upto 60'000, i would be disgusted to see that round teared down and a new stadium built with the same name, it wouldn't be the same place, it wouldn't have the history or legancy as ANFIELD.................. We love the Original
we don't have the money thats y wer kickin off about them yankee muppets who r in charge of our club- they lied about havin the money, n now the considerable debt that this stadium was supposed 2 pay off is loomin over us coz anfield dsnt make enough 2 pay it off!!
bad timin 2 say this given wa the result was 2day, but we shud take a leaf out of uniteds book n boycott our club shops!! then the yankee cunts will fuck off!!!
ive got 2 say i dont like it, i disagree completely with moving away from anfield, we should build another tier on the centenary, knock down the anny road end n main stand n make them the same size as the new centenery n make the Kop bigger! we do need a bigger ground, but if we have 2 move away we should at least not make it luk like 4 randomly shaped stands plonked rnd a pitch like this ground! it looks an uneven mess wiv glitzy walls outside it! at least make 3 stands the same n keep the kop!
It looks to me like a modern art museum sitting appropriately in a park without a massive car park around it. That is why transit issues will have to be addressed to built up to 73-75k. Four distinctive stands rolled up into a new modern stadium. With the Kop up front and center.
The latest controversy is selling the naming rights to the new stadium. There once was a time when the name on the front of a jersey was far more important than the name on the back of a jersey. If one can sell the name on the front of a jersey, naming a stadium is nothing in comparison....
If you wish to be world class, you might as well do it on and off the field. Those American owners can wheel and deal, it wouldnt't surprise me if a large corporation funded half the costs of the new stadium. The new stadium will eventually double the club's revenues. If not at 60k, it will over 70k...
Visited Goodison yesterday as a Carlisle fan and what a dump. The facilities were old fashioned and dangerous as there weren't proper safety exits, the toilets were a disgrace and the catering was vile. I won't be going back there again.
As much as i love Anfield, i'm looking forwerd to seeing this, and just think how loud Anfield is now, then what will it be like in there. The new kop looks massive!
Ya well if any proper supporter knows that you need bigger stadiums and big money to compete nowdays....id love if they stay in anfield forever but its just not the way the football world works now
I think you're right. I can't see any way this will be built under the american owners.
What really annoys me is they quote the price of steel being too high and then we have steelworks owned by Chorus shedding thousands of jobs because there is no demand. Surely they could negotiate something to get a good price and allow people to keep some jobs?
I saw this as beautiful. Instead of another cookie cutter bowl, four individual stands, One of which is designed to replace the ROK. Great architecture. Perfect.
Sorry transparent aluminum isn't affordable yet. Glass is much better than plexiglass. Its easier to clean. I guess they could have used stucco which is being used for Santo Laguna's Neuvo Estradio Corona's stadium, New Corona Stadium. I bet you like it better, nice 30k bowl, with sky boxes. While it is functional, the New Corona Stadium isn't world class is it?
this will be destroyed by all the scouse yobbos, they will be ripping the metal off and selling it for scrap hahahaha!!

@TheMummyamy
Liverpool Council really want the new stadium to go ahead to regenerate the whole area. This is why a new stadium is certain to happen.
Also, because of the streets nearby you won't be able to extend Anfield, same problem as Arsenal had.
If you look at this design they wanted to have one end as one complete tier so we'd still have an impressive Kop end.
