This dude obviously knows how to play. All this "Watch the Hendrix films! He plays lot of this stuff different than you" stuff doesn't matter at all. He has a great tone and wants to share his knowledge with other guitar players. I think he does a great job doing this lesson.
@Zakk667 In fact I think noone on earth would hear any difference to the original song if this dude would play the guitar on them. Jimi Hendrix' greatness isn't only his guitar playin' but his combined power of his voice, soul and guitar playing. A man who knew to intoxicate so many people at once. a genious.
i have one of his randy rhoads tapes.. then while talking to a bassist friend of mine a few months back(he moved to Mexico) he buds and has jammed with curt...wow!
This guy has many lessons on different players' given styles. I remember seeing his videos at a store about 20 years ago!
His playing is very near perfect technically. He's not saying to just try and mimic someone's playing. He's showing us how different players get their tones, tricks they use, etc.
great job man! i really enjoyed this. easier basic way to play could be : C G D A E E7, and could everyone go to my channel and please view my guitar video, i kno its been crappy but tell me what you think and rate it please, thx
this sounds like curt...I have an old vhs tape of you showing rhandy rhoads crazy train.. dan greenberg and me go way back...he tells me youguys know each other...cool..your stuff is always great...thanks for the help....JC

haha Still learning, hey joe!!! i know its terrible, ive only played guitar 4,40years....Brilliant vid as good as j.hendrix in fact marginnaly Better!!!
Right, but that's what makes them different chords, isn't it?
I think one of the most important aspects to concentrate on when learning to play Hendrix is the distinctive chord shapes that make his own style. Different chord positions = slightly different sounds.
guys this is curt michell from the "in the style of jimi hendrix" dvd. something real funny is that in the newer so called digitally remastered version, he is like 20 years older and 40 kg more heavy.
Watch the Hendrix films! He plays lot of this stuff different than you. In fact he never played anything the same way twice! Guys, don't bust yer balls learning this stuff note for note. Get the gist of it and then do it your own way. That's what Jimi would do!
@optoisolator i know this piece of shit guitarist. i started playing Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Then the asshole yells at me and goes ''You're doin it wrong! It's a down, up, up, down strumming pattern!'' What a fuck job! Oh well, guitar for me is sitting down relaxing and playing whatever comes into my head. For him it's stressing out over playing things note for note. I am glad i am not a robot.
@optoisolator thanks dude ive nearly been smashing my guitar to bits actually like jimi did exept i was angry because i couldnt learn bold as love, it so annoying
@optoisolator I agree. They all do. It just happens that the one version they did in the studio becomes the one copied. But, as you say, this is just (what I call) guitar karaoke. It always worth learning a solo, it makes you learn new techniques, but when it comes to playing it its gotta come form your heart. And if Jimmy heard you play it that way, he'd say pretty cool!
I've been playing for many years and for some reason haven't practiced any Jimi. I thought this video was PERFECT for youtube. He plays it real time ( or even faster, which I prefer) and then slow and zoomed in.
what a great performance! this couldn't possibly be a lesson, could it? because lessons are where you are taught how to do something, preferably with audible speaking and good tone
Yeah - Really bad recording, but I think we have all figured that out. The original DVD probably is great, but anyway... Yeah - good job on this. I like it. Nice rendition of jimi - I enjoyed all of it.
BTW
1. Strats do not suck. (PERIOD) ask dave gilmour...
2. Yes the video was distorted. (Not the guitar)
3. Played the material really well? (YES)
4. Was it exact to Jimi? (No, but Jimi played everything different all the time anyway)
really crappy strat???? what the HELL are you talking about....this recording is a lil distorted to begin with...but his tone is GREAT!.....your probly some gibson FAG! ....1972 tle bitches HA!:)
the purple haze riff is actually done in an E augmented ninth like SRV uses and you have to slide up and into it to make it work it is a great power chord and yes this guy is good in his own way like others are nice work
i have this AMAZING video backed up on a cd-r of this guy teaching the jimmy page method, it is the same format, examples 1 - ___ this guy is like memorized every cool lick imaginable.
after the first 10 seconds i had to stop watching this video because i was on the verge of falling into a coma... u call this jimi hendrix?.. if i had a camera, i would show all u kids how its done
Who cares if he doesn't play the exact chord off the tab you learned it off or whatever. The man can play and he's got some sweet hendrix sound going on.
Jimi always tuned his guitar down a 1/2 step so he had more flexibility bending the heavy gauge strings (#10 first string ) and get a thicker tone. So when he played the position in E chord it was actually Eb.
