Not so sure about teaching kids to be different, but it was definitely a humorous take on the Universal Monsters and it appealed to kids as well as adults in a way that no other animated feature could.

There again, that's Rankin\Bass productions for you-they also brought us Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty The Snowman and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

True masters of their craft, and Tim Burton, while good, could only HOPE to be THIS good. Mad Monster Party! \,,/
