Why the hell was H1 production discontinued? It may not be as attractive as the H2 or the H3, but I don't care. It wasn't made for looking pretty or being plush. This is for tough off-road driving. I'd prefer this any day than anything the wussy H2 or H3 has. Anything that weighs over 4,000 needs a diesel engine and heavy duty 4 wheel independent suspension. Bring back the H1 NOW!

@junnman1 Lol ya, I'm doing a lot of research to make my purchase...so long as you don't abuse it a lot they can be reliable! Hopefully in a month or two one will be my daily driver. Definitely would mind a g class either but don't think I'll ever find one for the right price haha

People who buy H1 as a luxury car are the same as the ones who buy G as a luxury car, unless you can name a single modern 'luxury' car that rides like a truck on live axles. @HMCS1997 I know. Sorry. But the Hummer doesn't have much luxury features. Like the Range Rover it has 4 zone climate control. On my mums range rover you have heated and cooled seats in the back and rear recline seats. So why would you get a Hummer H1 for 160 thousand dollars (i think) if you can get a fully loaded Range Rover with adaptive cruise control, brakes the size of gods, and much much more luxury features but then hummer.......

If it's 350 gas powered yes, it's a tuned 6.5 Turbo Diesel, yes. If you add a 6.2L diesel no. the 6.2L diesel has better Fuel consumption than the 4.3L gas motor.

A tiny 5 lug Axle with moving components will never outlive an 8 lug solid axle The Turbo 400 3 speed automatic is considered to be the 2nd heaviest duty transmission in medium and light duty trucks, they're only second to the A1 Allison transmissions (which may have been used in H1's along with Duramax diesel's after 1999 I can't confirm this though) What's stuffed under the hood of a landrover? Small displacement diesel engines with virtually no power.

Hummers are very simple in design, the beauty with Hummers is that all of the parts are cheap and relatively cheap to replace. I'll start with the axles, You can find Dana 44's and Dana 60's in just about any light, medium and heavy duty trucks that were produced between 1970 - 1990. From K5 Blazers, Suburbans, silverado's, the old cherokees (pre - 1983) Ford trucks, Chrysler trucks you name it. The axles are very easy to find.
The turbo 400 3 speed auto's are also pretty common in GM vehicles, but if you aren't able to find a turbo 400, you can also use a 4L80e, 700R4, Muncie "rock crusher" 22 manual and that's about it (to my knowledge) Any GM engine will fit in a hummer too (the only modifications that it will need are different motor mounts) Small blocks and big blocks dont share the same motor mounts. Anyway, the reason I dont like landrovers is because snobby people usually buy them where I live

@aardappelpitsap the geared hub assemblies are extremely durable. I know of Hummers built in 92 with the original geared hubs with lots of mileage. Ball Joints, idler, Pitman arms are more common to be replaced. and if you don't drive a Hummer properly you can break the halfshafts. and I agree with you Land Rovers are extrememly capable. Defenders come to my mind.
Landrovers are for snobs, they have no off-road capability, and break all the time. And aside from desert conditions are pretty useless. Don't even get me started on durability either. Bottom line, Hummers have "Stuff" that Landrovers don't. 1. dual solid axles (two sets of Dana 70 HD's), Turbo 400 automatic transmissions, and a good variety of engine choices 5.7's, 6.2's D's, and 6.5 TD. Land-Rovers don't have 1ton HD axles, they have independent suspensions which break easily

They are extremely durable and are built on a ladder chassis design, meaning you can replace or remove body panels, to become a pickup, a van, a station wagon or a convertible! They do have solid axles with half shafts in them, and they actually mainly use leaf spring suspension. The 1-ton land-rover would have had heavy duty axles too...

Allison in 2006. also a 6.5L diesel naturally aspirated was offered. also not any engine will swap in a Hummer with only need for engine mounts. unless you meant to just fit in the engine bay and not have it functional.

I would not trade my H3 for anything else on the road, unless it were an H2 or H1.
@MrsUpdike I'll admit, that when i owned my H3, I loved being the one in the line of traffic that could plow through the median to get out of traffic jams in the middle of winter. Our medians in KY are deep and not level, and only 4x4s can do it. I enjoyed it. The only thing I found limiting is the fact that it is in fact an SUV and not a truck, but if you need a truck get a truck. I enjoyed having the one I had.

@123A1231 Depending on production date both were fitted with the same transmission - TH400 and 4L80E. 4L80E has overdrive which allows it to go faster. Main fuel tank - exactly the same. Later H1's have auxiliary tank. Gear ratios, brakes and spring rates depend on production year and version for both vehicles. 30 inches fording dept for both. Unless it's USMC version - difference in dashboard is irrelevant. Both made on the same production line - practically the same vehicle.

H1 is advance design even compard to today vehicles. high ground clearance, dont have to climb to seats, big tires without lift or rub, drivetrain flush to chassis... I never regret to own one.

@chaklong Don't think so. Land rover is the most durable 4x4 out there. I mean the british army has hummers in function of 30+ years. cant say that about hummers. I have seen multiple landrovers with 1.000.000 kilometers on the counter.

A tiny 5 lug Axle with moving components will never outlive an 8 lug solid axle The Turbo 400 3 speed automatic is considered to be the 2nd heaviest duty transmission in medium and light duty trucks, they're only second to the A1 Allison transmissions (which may have been used in H1's along with Duramax diesel's after 1999 I can't confirm this though) What's stuffed under the hood of a landrover? Small displacement diesel engines with virtually no power.

As i told you the brits have been using them for ages. And a man i bought a suzuki samurai from organizes 4x4 trips in landrovers. And he has done over a Million kilometer with every single one of them. And if something breaks he can fix it easily. Hows that with a hummer? I dont see me fixing those huge complicated gearing mechanisms. Cheers!

Hummers are very simple in design, the beauty with Hummers is that all of the parts are cheap and relatively cheap to replace. I'll start with the axles, You can find Dana 44's and Dana 60's in just about any light, medium and heavy duty trucks that were produced between 1970 - 1990. From K5 Blazers, Suburbans, silverado's, the old cherokees (pre - 1983) Ford trucks, Chrysler trucks you name it. The axles are very easy to find.

The turbo 400 3 speed auto's are also pretty common in GM vehicles, but if you aren't able to find a turbo 400, you can also use a 4L80e, 700R4, Muncie "rock crusher" 22 manual and that's about it (to my knowledge) Any GM engine will fit in a hummer too (the only modifications that it will need are different motor mounts) Small blocks and big blocks dont share the same motor mounts. Anyway, the reason I dont like landrovers is because snobby people usually buy them where I live

But yeah i know what you mean by those 'snobs'. Shiny landrovers you see drivin around with the horse trailer behind it and still overtaking other cars at impossible spots, thinking they are the antspants. I hate them too;) Say you wont accidently know something about terrano's makin weird noises do you?

@aardappelpitsap the geared hub assemblies are extremely durable. I know of Hummers built in 92 with the original geared hubs with lots of mileage. Ball Joints, idler, Pitman arms are more common to be replaced. and if you don't drive a Hummer properly you can break the halfshafts. and I agree with you Land Rovers are extrememly capable. Defenders come to my mind.

Landrovers are for snobs, they have no off-road capability, and break all the time. And aside from desert conditions are pretty useless. Don't even get me started on durability either. Bottom line, Hummers have "Stuff" that Landrovers don't. 1. dual solid axles (two sets of Dana 70 HD's), Turbo 400 automatic transmissions, and a good variety of engine choices 5.7's, 6.2's D's, and 6.5 TD. Land-Rovers don't have 1ton HD axles, they have independent suspensions which break easily

@FANADICALCOWHEAD LOL Landies aint for snobs! They have fantastic off road capability, yes they do break but thats part of the nature. They are extremely durable and are built on a ladder chassis design, meaning you can replace or remove body panels, to become a pickup, a van, a station wagon or a convertible! They do have solid axles with half shafts in them, and they actually mainly use leaf spring suspension. The 1-ton land-rover would have had heavy duty axles too...

@FANADICALCOWHEAD ummm. Hummers don't have Solid axles. they independent suspension on all four corners. no Dana axles, Turbo 400s only in 92-93. 4L80es in 94-2004. Allison in 2006. also a 6.5L diesel naturally aspirated was offered. also not any engine will swap in a Hummer with only need for engine mounts. unless you meant to just fit in the engine bay and not have it functional.

@bazzamataz72 I would rather have the H1, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the H3. It is still better than a Jeep, and you CAN get it with a V8. I have had no problems with this vehicle, so I question your "piece of shit" comment. The Hummer is a dying breed, not because it sucked, but because GM clearly doesn't know how to run a business. I would not trade my H3 for anything else on the road, unless it were an H2 or H1.

@MrsUpdike I'll admit, that when i owned my H3, I loved being the one in the line of traffic that could plow through the median to get out of traffic jams in the middle of winter. Our medians in KY are deep and not level, and only 4x4s can do it. I enjoyed it. The only thing I found limiting is the fact that it is in fact an SUV and not a truck, but if you need a truck get a truck. I enjoyed having the one I had.

Lol yesterday in the snow storm a Hummer blew past me then fish-tailed and ended tipped over in a ditch about a 30 seconds later. I passed him in my moms ford fusion and honked at em lol. Don't get me wrong its a hell of a vehicle, but it's only as good as its driver.

@123A1231 Depending on production date both were fitted with the same transmission - TH400 and 4L80E. 4L80E has overdrive which allows it to go faster. Main fuel tank - exactly the same. Later H1's have auxiliary tank. Gear ratios, brakes and spring rates depend on production year and version for both vehicles. 30 inches fording dept for both. Unless it's USMC version - difference in dashboard is irrelevant. Both made on the same production line - practically the same vehicle.

@UnhonorableMentions H1 is not big at all, 15ft long, 6ft high, 7 ft wide. thats shorter than a toyota tacoma extra cab. lower than a F150 and as wide as Ford Raptor. H1 is advance design even compard to today vehicles. high ground clearance, dont have to climb to seats, big tires without lift or rub, drivetrain flush to chassis... I never regret to own one.
