it was an amazingly good laydown, but at the same time the guy with the kings could not have possibly been more transparent. He was so fidgety / anxious, his bet was so careless and poorly played, and the 'dont raise me' speech?? Good god, I've seen better poker at the $40 max buy-in 1/2 game at the bike
"Just don't raise me"... such a stupid thing to say... I've had similar thing happen to me before that caused me to make a monster laydown like Trip aces to someone else having a full boat... like
AA5 on the flop and I have A J... I had raised and he went all in.. and conversation went:
Me: Guess the ace helped you?
Him: Nah I think it helped you...
LOL.. insta fold... and he flips over the pocket 5's... sometimes, just keep your mouth shut...
Think about it: what would make sense for Geller to have?
1) air: he could have raised with nothing or missed the flop, but then he would take a stab at the pot on the flop. He raised preflop, a scary flop comes up and everybody checks to him. Why wouldn't he bet?
2) a strong hand that romanello can beat, like a flush, a straight or trip tens: why would he raise him with such a hand on the river? He would just call because he knows that only a hand that beats him would call him.
hahahahah nah poker pros NEVER show unless they have like, a royal. It's irrelevant whether he will or won't. But in getting Geller to speak, he might be picking up a read from tone of voice, stuff like that. Not what he says.
In some way it makes sense that he folded. First off the big preflop raise with easily could be with KK. He checks the flop after hitting a set, when that fourth card came he checked because he was intimidated by that 10 making a 4 card straight on the table, he then made a promising reraise when the board paired.
Amazing read... That was the best laydown of the tournament. If there was a huge preflop raise he shouldn't have been in there with JJ. Think about it... If he calls with jacks is he hoping to get quad jacks? He hit the full house and still folded. So just fold jacks preflop.
Gotta be the stupidest comment I have ever seen. Pocket Jacks is the 6th best ranked hand in the book!
And any pocket pair is leading say, AK, preflop. Even with pocket twos, i have a pair, and you dont. After the flop, whole story can change, but still.
The raises were minimal preflop - more than enough to call with Jacks. It's the 9s that shouldn't have been there. I'd definitely have been there with Jacks. The only large-size raise is the 1800-6000 raise on the river. before that, the largest raise was 600. Bear in mind also that Romanello smoothcalled Geller's preflop raise - his original raise of 700 total already signifying he had a strong hand - which he did!
I would have beaten the other guy into the pot. Sometimes if you go broke there's nothing you can do. Just look at quad aces versus the royal flush. Sometimes it just happens. You have to make the best play possible. How this guy folded is beyond me. I don't even think Hellmuth or Brunson would lay that down.
this is absolutely the best laydown i've ever seen, in those situations the main thing is to convince yourself that a full house in not good and that you're beat, you gotta have the guts to fold it.
watching this a lot of times i've convinced myself that in tournaments you need so much luck and skill is at the minimum, indeed skilled players like romanello or anyway pros like ivey are eliminated in a nasty hand (nut flush vs full house), and suckers (scott montgomery) go deep near the win.
know what you mean ive had tournaments where i feel ive made good lay downs, amassed a big stack then gone out with one hand ace king or something .... pisses me off! and yeah montgomery was one of those players this yr where they hit everything , every single time
I know what your saying about Montgomery getting rediculously lucky but by far the person who got the luckiest was Chino. Im not saying he isnt a good player but he got rediculously lucky and suckout atleast 4 or 5 times throughout the tournament on plays that no other pro would make.
yeh know wot u mean, its the sort of player where e.g. you have kings thay have queen 5 all in, they hit a q and a 5. then they have pocket 8s vs aces, before u know it they hit trip aces - then soon they are an average stack and back in the torny. it is a joke. also, i wnet to vegas n was doing all the stuff like wearing glasses (like chino reem) but now ive decied glasses r a load of shit. they dont hide anything Lol n r pointless (i.m.o) n yeah, cheeno reem sucked out on a lot of hands
Romanello Limped and called a 6x raise from gellar. They picked up the action after preflop action ensued.
He was slowplaying the trips till the turn where all three had to be concerned about the straight, then when the river cam a hous romanello value bets.
Romanello, makes a good laydown here OBV, but I think the reasoning is that he has to figure gellar would have bet a Q on the turn and smooth called a Q on that sick river, Prolly has gellars range at this point as this (TT-AA, AK, AQ) Ruling out AQ and QQ and AK because with such a nasty board and at the M.E. Gellar would be dumb to be raising for value with any of these hands.
This has to be his thinking IMO, though I would prefer he raises pre of course, limping JJ is not always a horrible thing. VEry good analysis though imo.
that is sick. how do u lay that down. it would be understandable if it was an all in situation, but it was like half the pot to call. wow. the power of instinct.
I agree with demai. The reason why I agree with him is because the kid was playing scared. he didnt raise preflop with JJ(a hand that can get u into trouble and alot of tight players play that hand scared) When the flop came out A K J he had already convince himself he was beat by the way he played it. I think he laid it down cause he was scared and not because he is an awesome player.
Watch schwartz final table fold against demidov! king high flush against the ace high flush! Thats a monster fold! This fold was easier, not easy easier, all that checking was way to fishy!
i cant understand why u think that the flush muck was so amazing.. it was a good laydown but i dont think it was nothing special. have u never folded a king high flush to a table whit 4 of same suit? especially when a guy has raised preflop.. and there was a full house posibility on the board
I mean it could be a easy fold if you put in your mind that he has aces or kings when they raised pre flop and you know you are beat,if you have that in your mind and the whay he reraised him after he did the fealer bet it`s obvious that he hit his higher set.
Lol. That is nearly impossible in these sorts of tournaments, let alone in any situation in poker, to automatically put someone on those two hands. Even so, if that was the case, then Romanello would've obviously folded preflop and this hand wouldn't even have happened.

The only thing that makes sense is a monster, which would mean kings or aces, which also would make sense becasuse he raised preflop.
But don't get me wrong, I would never ever in a thousand years folded that hand, thats just sick...

so he folded trips jacks, he didnt realise the board paired.
