It's too bad you can't give Miller a ceremonial ring. Him, Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Ewing...a great player, had the misfortune of running into Jordan.
@troywood22 Ray will beat Reggie's record. At this moment, Ray needs 24 3s to beat him. Ray didn't shoot more 3s than Reggie either. Reggie attempted 6,486 and Ray attempted 6,382. Ray's 3 point % is 0.398 while Reggie's is 0.395.
Reggie is one of many of the true legends who don't get the credit they deserve because of Michael. Yes Michael is the greatest player the NBA has seen but compared to Reggie as a person, he doesn't even come close. Sure Michael has 6 rings and Reggie has none but Reggie has respect for more than just being a great basketball player. You can't say the same for MJ.
@SeoulSon51 uh...totally disagree...Reggie is completely and totally well respected but you're shitting on Jordan -- who donates MILLIONS to charity..in fact, his last two years in washington, he donated his entire salary to the victims of 911
When I was fifteen I really wanted a Reggie Pacers jersey, but I settled on the closest thing I could find, a Spalding reproduction Detlef Schrempf jersey . I unstitched the first '1' from Schrempf's 11 and replaced it with a '3' that I'd made.
Nothing against Rick Smits, but I feel the Indiana Pacers needed a better center in the playoffs---during the mid-late 90's. I feel Reggie would've won that ring.
Wow i was at this game, i guess im a chick but i dont ever remember crying as much as i did ever. It was very emotional in indiana that night and growing up watching Reggie and the pacers was an honor. This is the one and only person you wish could have seen win a title and its just not fair. Reggie is defiantly THE BEST player to have ever played this game. Its 2009 and you are still much missed
Actually, the Brawl in Detroit took place on November 19th of 2004, and Reggie's last game (seen above) was during the 2005 playoffs. The brawl and his last game happened the same year, sadly. That season had its bright spots, but overall what a horrible year for the franchise.
@Hicksatpd The sad thing is, that team wouldn't have even made the playoffs but for the leadership he provided on that team. Artest, O'Neal, and Jackson ruined this franchise, and they are still recovering. I hope none of them ever wins an NBA championship, especially O'Neal... Never seen a player as lazy he is, yet thought he was some sort of star.
@Hicksatpd, I truly believe that before the brawl, that was the most talented Pacer team ever. They had everything needed to win it all. They were good enough to put a scare in the Bulls' 70-12 mark.
@Ajmcc23 Yep, Reggie was at the brawl game. Like 2rad008 said, he was inactive and was holding Artest back. I think he sat out a game or two due to injury. Reggie was even suspended for one game because he "came out onto the court" during that melee. Definitely thought that team could've gone the distance that year had all their guys been able to play. They advanced to the 2nd round with Artest out and Jackson and O'Neal missing significant time.
Yeah we know that MJ is more popular in the society because he is a great basketball player.
However, Reggie is one of the best player at that time... He was just shadowed by MJ.. Moreover, Reggie still a legendary basketball player though cause he is a pure incredible 3 point shooter for all the time^^
I LOVE HIM. i simply love him. He was a class act, he may have gotten into it with other people, but who cares. He was my favorite player and i admit, amid the loss of a 2-1 series lead over Detroit, i was so sad to see him go. I didn't care that the Pacers lost, i was just heartbroken. God bless him, but i am glad in a way they did not win this game, because they would have probably gone on to lose their next one at Detroit and there would not have been an ovation like this. God bless u Reggie!
It's funny I can almost picture what it will be like when Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Chris Paull...what will be like when they retire. That will truly be fucking weird...
It was Larry Brown who called the timeout!
