National guard unit here and agree with Ron11B10 Been back in the states only a few months. When i was over in afghanistan we went places that no other US forces were even at....went for 1 year term....a bit shorter than active but shut the heck up on the weekend warrior thing. I won't ever fall for that BS again. We lost our own as well as active. We go through the same training...and we are different how? Thats like Mcds saying they are better than burger king LOL!
I personally only have great things to say about the guard. I've been in for 11 years and I enjoyed my time as a private as well as an NCO. I've earned 2 college degrees payed for by the guard. Traveled to places I other wise would have never traveled to.... Seen things most people will never see. I'm from Louisiana and worked With hurricane Katrina, Ike and gustov. Nothing but heroes! Excellent! I was with the 2nd Armored Division (Army) in the first Gulf War. We went thru with the 1st and 2nd Mar Div. I had no problem with the Marines then and I would gladly serve alongside them now!

I personally think the National gaurd does more than the Army reserves. My friend is in the reserves and he does the same thing as me, reports to his unit once a month. The National Gaurd reports to their unit once a month and is put to use by being deployed overseas or helping out your state. Illinois Army National Gaurd 933rd Military police CO.

Im not taking my combat patch off NEVER. Im 11B with the maryland N.G. I will never ever take off my combat patch. Ill never forget those guys I fought with and if the guard tells me too then IM getting out. I will not follow that uniform regulation. I have my unit patch on my left arm and my combat patch on my right arm, and it will stay there, or I will get out!

To the one making a comment on the patches of the 1st infantry and 101st. Those were combat patches which mean that those individuals deployed and their unit fell under that divisions command or if they were prior service active duty. I am currently in Iraq with the 30th HBCT out of North Carolina and almost half of the they guys here deployed back in 04 and they all wear the 1st infantry division as a combat patch. Because they fell under the 1st ID during their first deployment.
I know you can wear the patch of any one you went to combat with but the dude said that they can become 101st or 1st. Like a 101st air born cant be in the 1st infantry. Its not b/c their not good enough or any thing liek that, its jsut the job. Thats the same reason a marien cant be an army ranger... its not a question of abilitay... hes jsut not in the right brantch, thats all I was saying about the 101st and 1st
no its active duty and 1 reserve unit. National Gaurd and Reserves are alot alike and get lumped together alot but its an active division. NG can be para but not 101st
National guard IS military and national guard can fall under 101st when deployed. Those patches were combat patches in the video, hence them being on the right arm under the flag.
Focus... I'll slow it down for you. They can fall under ANY unit, and yes that includes the 101st and the 1st... however that cannot be their primary unit. And National Gaurd is a state run Militia that the government can activate at any time they feel a need. What I jsut said if fact, not opinions. It can't be disputed. I respect the national gaurd, all I was saying is they shouldn't wear their combat patches, they should have worn their unit patches
I'm in the National Guard and you wear your unit patch on your left arm and your combat patch on your right underneath the flag. That's where they have it in the video. You always wear your combat patch.

@tapp40 The patches they wear are THEIR COMBAT PATCH so of course they should wear it. It is the active duty patch of the active duty command the National Guard soldiers' unit fell under for command purposes when they were in combat. But there has been a change in the regulation since this video was shot, so you will see less and less active duty patches on Guard Soldiers and more National Guard patches used for combat patches.

Excellent! I was with the 2nd Armored Division (Army) in the first Gulf War. We went thru with the 1st and 2nd Mar Div. I had no problem with the Marines then and I would gladly serve alongside them now!

In 3 years ill be 17, im hoping to enlist in the Army through ROTC. I respect all branches of the US Military equally. I hold in personal regard the Army because it takes someone with great courage and patriotism to take up a gun and fight for their country without being forced to. I personally think the National gaurd does more than the Army reserves. My friend is in the reserves and he does the same thing as me, reports to his unit once a month. The National Gaurd reports to their unit once a month and is put to use by being deployed overseas or helping out your state. Illinois Army National Gaurd 933rd Military police CO.

Im not taking my combat patch off NEVER. Im 11B with the maryland N.G. I will never ever take off my combat patch. Ill never forget those guys I fought with and if the guard tells me too then IM getting out. I will not follow that uniform regulation. I have my unit patch on my left arm and my combat patch on my right arm, and it will stay there, or I will get out!

To the one making a comment on the patches of the 1st infantry and 101st. Those were combat patches which mean that those individuals deployed and their unit fell under that divisions command or if they were prior service active duty. I am currently in Iraq with the 30th HBCT out of North Carolina and almost half of the they guys here deployed back in 04 and they all wear the 1st infantry division as a combat patch. Because they fell under the 1st ID during their first deployment.

I know you can wear the patch of any one you went to combat with but the dude said that they can become 101st or 1st. Like a 101st air born cant be in the 1st infantry. Its not b/c their not good enough or any thing liek that, its jsut the job. National guard IS military and national guard can fall under 101st when deployed. Those patches were combat patches in the video, hence them being on the right arm under the flag.

Focus... I'll slow it down for you. They can fall under ANY unit, and yes that includes the 101st and the 1st... however that cannot be their primary unit. And National Gaurd is a state run Militia that the government can activate at any time they feel a need. What I jsut said if fact, not opinions. It can't be disputed. I respect the national gaurd, all I was saying is they shouldn't wear their combat patches, they should have worn their unit patches

I'm in the National Guard and you wear your unit patch on your left arm and your combat patch on your right underneath the flag. That's where they have it in the video. You always wear your combat patch.

@tapp40 The patches they wear are THEIR COMBAT PATCH so of course they should wear it. It is the active duty patch of the active duty command the National Guard soldiers' unit fell under for command purposes when they were in combat. But there has been a change in the regulation since this video was shot, so you will see less and less active duty patches on Guard Soldiers and more National Guard patches used for combat patches.
