While I adore Johann Sebastian's sonatas for viola da gamba or conversely the pieces by Marais or Abel for a cello or gamba with continuo, it is the collected works of Jacchini I hold in highest esteem. The composer's use of his instrument combined with rhetorical gestures and episodes are perfectly written to underline and contrast the instrument's capabilities, thus creating a dark cinema much like Charles Baudelaire or Edgar Allan Poe. Please feel free to post more... Many thanks!
What a beautiful gem again. Having read all the very positive comments made earlier by my co-viewers I can only agree that this is superb. Also from me THANK YOU !
Keep sending me music like this Harmonico101. I am glad you are one of the people who I know on this site. I havent heard of Jacchini but perhaps Jack in the Box. I like what Classicalmusicreview said. This definitely gives the cello a great melodious sound, with great ranges in pitch
I think that it unwittingly unfair to label Jacchini as a pioneer composer for the cello. While that is true,it makes his achievements sound like quaint novelties...when rather his rhetoric is throroughly substantive on a par with anyone other solo music ever composed by anyone bar none.
1;20 looks really like something Vivaldi could have written in his cello concerti. I wonder if he knew about Jacchini's works prior to composing his own concerti.
Merci pour cette belle musique! Je ne suis pas familier avec le compositeur Jacchini, mais je suis maintenant un nouvel admirateur de sa musique, grâce à vous ...
