>There will NEVER be another Callas...her genius is unique to her,and for me personally,it's all the genius i need from an opera singer...Callas is the absolute zenith...accuracy and ability to communicate the spectrum of emotions from the piece she's singing, and even more, have the listener experience the emotions themselves!!I absolutely love and revere her...sadly sadly missed (thank God for surviving work such as this!!)
The most difficult of arias and she delivers nearly effortlessly. Personally I don't like the aria but I recognize the difficultly. I love her even though she does wobble some. They said the same about Malibran and Pasta. What company to be in! It's a shame we don't have their voices to remember as well. I listen to her everyday.
@melosmond. If you don't like Callas, don't listen to her. And above all, do not insult her memory with your hate filled comments. There is such a thing as gallantry left in the world, and I suggest you investigate it. There are many current singers I simply abhor, but I would never insult them in public. Just a little common decency, please. Your comments are the type that have turned youtube into a very, very distasteful place. Basta.
The Paris Opera concert was an immense success for Callas. Thank God video footage of this can be seen today. If only it was in color. She was dressed like an Oscar winner - fabulous red gown, great necklace and earrings. It was here where she first met Aristotle Onaissis the love of her life. Her voice was in top shape, she sang hit after hit (Casta Diva from Norma, Una Voce Poco Fa from Barbieri, and others).. this should be in a time capsule!!!! Callas lives forever
@OperaMystery80 "Onassis the love of her life" ??? She may have been in love. If so, they were in love with the same person. He was a scumbag! After he had dumped Maria for Jacqueline (another trophy) she (Jacqueline) eventually stopped more than barely speaking to him. He then tried to get back to Maria who wouldn't speak to him at all. Not long after that he died slowly in a hospital of some neurological disease... all by himself. He deserved worse IMHO.
@MrHbc3 According to a biography I read, Callas did go to see him at the hospital. He was still conscious and their eyes met. She said to him in Greek: "Aristo, it is me, it is your Maria". Most people believe she was loved Onassis & never got over him. Yes she refused to get back with him because she would have been "the mistress" not the wife. She wanted to be his wife, which he never wanted from her. She had an abortion because of him, she sacrificed so much for him, even her singing voice.
Bless - such a tiny talent. She acts like a slightly irritable woman waiting for a bus. As for the aria - she pulls it about so much that Verdi wouldn't recognise it. Happily, if he was more than three rows back he couldn't hear it anyway.
@melosmond What are you talking about and where do you get your ideas from? Sure she wasn't perfect but who is? To say she has a tiny talent is just weird... you need to do some research.
oh! Maria so perfect in everything...she controls everythink with diafragma her voice some times comes from her feet....!and she is so thin here ,amazing where she finds place to breath!I LOVE HER
Gracias a ella , sigo cantando.
Jennifer Sullivan-It's the prompter, a necessary evil in opera and sometimes a lifesaver when your mind goes blank and you momentarily cannot remember the lyrics. But it can sound intrusive.
@dermann1 Well. .. Maria Callas wasn't here under 35, she looks gorgeous, indeed, but not her singing with tremendous difficulty breathing and intonation. Today we would a booded if someone sing like her in this performance
@jcpavarotti hey dude i need help from someone who listens to opera...i would really apreciate if you could tell me the name of the song in the begging of the titles scene in the ending of the movie called "the warrior's way"...i think it could be liszt (from the violin) but since none of my friends listens to this music i am left alone to find it...thanks anyway...

The modulation, phrasing, play with rhythm and the exact attack of each word that begins with a vowel is exquisite.
Whether you like the tone at this point of the game becomes immaterial.
It's like Heifetz playing on anything other than a del Gesu ; it's still undeniably genius.
