  • I love this video. Swweeeeet!

  • This has got to be the coolest bunch of people i have ever seen :)

  • If you fancy seeing some music inspired by Bukka White this March, Alabama 3 are performing acoustic and unplugged!

They are performing in this stripped down acoustic way to show the songs in a format reminiscent of the people that have been their inspiration, chiefly the old Delta Blues players like Fred MacDowell and Bukka White.

    See alabama3.co.uk for more details

  • Nice, it's like getting a private peek at an impromptu jam.

  • @fdlevine yeah but actually jellyroll himself name got his name cause he was raised and performed around bordellos... and it was part of his mystique that white people didn't get it _ I love how poeple pretend they know about the blues when they still don't get it!

  • @busessuck1 who dont get it are you making a racist comment about whites ?? im not sure

  • @deewilki precisely... now, try to never type anything ever again

  • @busessuck1 you are a sad sad man its all different but just the same aint it, aint nothing for some people but hatred and racism never mind the blues is a collection of races music such as black african beats and lyricalness in its songs or hawian slide guitar or white country and folk from the white slaves ( yes white slaves dont here much about them guys the pressganged and feudal clans that were sold by there chiefs) i think you my son should chop your own fingers off incase god is angerd

  • @kindofobvious It is taken from the french documentary: Le blues entre les dents (1973) by Roviros Manthoulis.

  • @dimitris2005 hey Thanks for the info, will try and track that down :)

  • Furry is a legend

  • Hey, die

    Jungs sind ja alle zugekifft

  • i LOVE the guy at 0:56 hahahah

  • i think that guy is Sonny Terry but i'm not sure, he looks a bit like him and hold a harmonica.

  • sonny is blind.

  • yes, but he wears glasses. after looking with more attention it's not sonny terry, and he doesnt even hold a harmonica

  • His name is Booker, not Bukka. 20 seconds in, he tells you his name.

  • "Amen", S'all I'm sayin' an' dassa fact, sho' nuff. Dem's what you calls de blues!

  • Got dem spiders crawlin' all over dat fret board.

I woke up this morning, looking for my sweet jelly roll,

  • close, but its how can i give up jelly roll, jelly roll was my first one (lover). also could be sold it all over town, not strollin all over town.

  • birthmark*

  • Take it easy on them bukka!!!awesome!!!!!!

  • I love Bukka White...

  • so do I.

  • indescribable how he turns the beat and lays down this heavy groove. let alone his presence...

  • Can somebody send me the lyrics of this song, i can't find it anywhere. And i don't understand some of the lyrics by ear. I would be glad if somebody translates the song for me. Thanks

  • I did but i can't find it. Most of the results are about Rag time musician "Jelly Roll Morton".

  • this is definatly the setting one should have seen any of the blues artists in... sittin' around, havin' some drinks with other blues men... THEN you have a night!

  • Ya man!!!!

  • Showed us the way....

  • I can't believe how thick his voice sounds here, even better than on the Sonet Blues Story cd I've got...

Booker White is just one of the best.

  • what an awesome tune. Makes a guy like me that cant and hates to dance wanna dance

  • No... es muy bien.

  • this man is god

  • thanks mate

  • what tuning is this in?

  • D or E looks like - Haven't got a guitar here to check the key.

    Try DADF#AD

  • think its Em thats the tuning bukka white used the most

  • i don't know... i think it's in open A. look at how he hits the fifth fret on the first string- i'm pretty sure that's the root. try DGDGBD and capo on 2nd fret.

  • it may well be, bukka white is a strange character, he uses chords I have never even seen before. He did do a couple of tunes in open A but mostly open Em so at a random guess I would of said Em.

  • i wish i had me a jelly roll,

I'd eat it till I was good and full

  • fucking spooky

  • I think that's an old banged up Duolian, isn't it?

  • This is almost primal in a sense. Bukka is doing it with just that National Style O and his voice. Those Nationals are great because they can project quite well in a senario such as this.

  • what type of guitar is he using?

  • its a national resonator man. a style O i believe. and he's playing it weeellllllll !!!!!

  • the lady behind him wenever he says jelly roll he face dropps lol. she aint no jelly roll.

  • this song is class

  • jelly roll is used for a lot of innuendos in blues, mainly womens genitalia but also a penis and just a big fat woman.

  • Yes!!!! :)

  • Isnt it about Jelly Roll Morton. The Blues Singer?

  • actually i think its about having intercourse

  • God.

  • Lol 2:12

  • This is jolly good. I like this very much. It makes me think I must work out how to plug my laptop into my epeakers so I can hear it in a good quality volume kind of way.

  • In this setting I believe the jelly roll is his penis :)

  • I thought it was a womans unmentionables.

  • No, I don`t think this is a girl thing. He say My..jelly roll. Charlie Patton sings about a jelly roll in Shake it and Break it. And so does Alan Wilson. If you go to Google and sign in:Wilson shake it and breake it. You find Rebecca Winters, trying to analys this song, and the jelly roll.Good luck :-)

  • I read it was a womans you know, he could very posesive of his womans lovin bits, also he misses his jelly rolls witch would be hard if it is atached to his body!

  • O.K. I believe you :-)

  • Anthrofinn .... what is dirty about it, am I missing somthing?? what is jelly roll by the way??

  • Recommended reading: "Blues fell this morning : the meaning of the blues" and "Screening the blues : aspects of the blues tradition" by Paul Oliver.

  • wat a party wish i was there.that was unreal wat a player anyone know the tuning for the guitar

  • Bukka generally tuned his guitar in E minor: EBEGBE (though not necesarilly with A at 440 Hz as reference...).

  • thanks is this wat tuning he playin in the video have you tabs

  • what a filthy song. I love it!

  • That tune is used by captain beefheart-mirrorman

  • sweet as hell

  • wonderful!

  • Ah mate. I Bukka White, nice.

  • What a wonderful bluesman, fantastic song with a special groove. Bukka is great and all the other videos here are awesome...Thanks a lot

  • his head wobble when he does vibrato with the slide is just about the coolest thing I've seen.

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting.

  • Jeeze this guy had more star quality in his little finger than most of the dweebs you hear in the charts have got between them. Awesome voice, great driving guitar, that devilish grin - just fantastic

  • what tuning is this??

  • its in open A tuning im pretty sure. same as open G but up a whole tone.

  • Furry Lewis was snortin' a slide full of something at 56 seconds.

  • Actually, it's an old southern practice: I read about the oldest man in the US back in the '70's in Rolling Stone, about 112. Suddenly the old black guy interupts the interview, takes a bottle of cold/pain medicine designed to be mixed with water, puts a pile of it on the back of his tongue, and coughs inside out - he inhaled the dry powder into his lungs!

  • That's interesting. I've been waiting for someone to shed some light on what he was doing since I noticed it two months ago. I wonder what the benefit was. I'll have to look that up.

  • Awesome old man!!!

Bukka is THE man!! Any more videos from this event?

  • National single cone, biscuit bridge, aprox. a mid-1930's model, w/ a nickel body- what else do ya want to know? National Resno-Phonic is making them now...Dobro has a good model replicating this style as well!

  • Awesome video! Thanks for posting it.

  • so does anyone know what style of guitar booker played all i know is that it was a national

  • Here, is that Son House in the background dancing? That appears to be Furry Lewis sitting opposite him too??? Man, I wish i was at that party!

  • i think i've seen footage of Furry with those same 3 chicks sitting by a blue wall...search "furry lewis"

  • bukka White was B. B. King.s cousin...

  • no offense to the people who are white that play blues..it dont matter the color of the skin..i mean, thats what philosophy i live by..it only matters what is inside, and the feelings thta is most importante.. but the thing is, ohhh goddamn,i just love these old recordings..nobody,nobody,nobody,does it better like the old guys and gals..

this is what i prefer to see. omg,i'm the worst blues snob ever,.i dont care

  • Merci pour cette excellente vidéo Vleb ! Bukka etait vraiment un phénomène !

  • bukka has more powers that Chuck Norris

  • lol

  • every woman in the room was subsequently knocked up

  • can i get this on dvd somewhere whats the name of it

  • Awsome video, thanks for posting it! Check out Bukka's gritty voice around 1.01, woah!

  • Wow...never seen this one before! Cool! Thanks for posting it Vleb!
