If you fancy seeing some music inspired by Bukka White this March, Alabama 3 are performing acoustic and unplugged!
They are performing in this stripped down acoustic way to show the songs in a format reminiscent of the people that have been their inspiration, chiefly the old Delta Blues players like Fred MacDowell and Bukka White.
@fdlevine yeah but actually jellyroll himself name got his name cause he was raised and performed around bordellos... and it was part of his mystique that white people didn't get it _ I love how poeple pretend they know about the blues when they still don't get it!
@busessuck1 you are a sad sad man its all different but just the same aint it, aint nothing for some people but hatred and racism never mind the blues is a collection of races music such as black african beats and lyricalness in its songs or hawian slide guitar or white country and folk from the white slaves ( yes white slaves dont here much about them guys the pressganged and feudal clans that were sold by there chiefs) i think you my son should chop your own fingers off incase god is angerd
is this and the other furry lewis clips (in the same setting) from a longer film/documentary? because if there's more I really, really want to see it!
Can somebody send me the lyrics of this song, i can't find it anywhere. And i don't understand some of the lyrics by ear. I would be glad if somebody translates the song for me. Thanks
this is definatly the setting one should have seen any of the blues artists in... sittin' around, havin' some drinks with other blues men... THEN you have a night!
i don't know... i think it's in open A. look at how he hits the fifth fret on the first string- i'm pretty sure that's the root. try DGDGBD and capo on 2nd fret.
it may well be, bukka white is a strange character, he uses chords I have never even seen before. He did do a couple of tunes in open A but mostly open Em so at a random guess I would of said Em.
This is almost primal in a sense. Bukka is doing it with just that National Style O and his voice. Those Nationals are great because they can project quite well in a senario such as this.
This is jolly good. I like this very much. It makes me think I must work out how to plug my laptop into my epeakers so I can hear it in a good quality volume kind of way.
No, I don`t think this is a girl thing. He say My..jelly roll. Charlie Patton sings about a jelly roll in Shake it and Break it. And so does Alan Wilson. If you go to Google and sign in:Wilson shake it and breake it. You find Rebecca Winters, trying to analys this song, and the jelly roll.Good luck :-)
I read it was a womans you know, he could very posesive of his womans lovin bits, also he misses his jelly rolls witch would be hard if it is atached to his body!
Jeeze this guy had more star quality in his little finger than most of the dweebs you hear in the charts have got between them. Awesome voice, great driving guitar, that devilish grin - just fantastic
Actually, it's an old southern practice: I read about the oldest man in the US back in the '70's in Rolling Stone, about 112. Suddenly the old black guy interupts the interview, takes a bottle of cold/pain medicine designed to be mixed with water, puts a pile of it on the back of his tongue, and coughs inside out - he inhaled the dry powder into his lungs!
That's interesting. I've been waiting for someone to shed some light on what he was doing since I noticed it two months ago. I wonder what the benefit was. I'll have to look that up.
National single cone, biscuit bridge, aprox. a mid-1930's model, w/ a nickel body- what else do ya want to know? National Resno-Phonic is making them now...Dobro has a good model replicating this style as well!
no offense to the people who are white that play blues..it dont matter the color of the skin..i mean, thats what philosophy i live by..it only matters what is inside, and the feelings thta is most importante.. but the thing is, ohhh goddamn,i just love these old recordings..nobody,nobody,nobody,does it better like the old guys and gals..
