There is a way to do it in like 15seconds. The portal placement cheat

Y,A,B,A,B,Y,Y,A,left on the D-PAD,right on the D-PAD. Yay now you can put portals on places you usually can't place them. (this cheat only works on The Orange Box Version.

This is an example of a much more generic glitches known as "portal bumping". When you shoot one portal at another, at a correct angle, the game tries to bump it up to 32 pixels to an allowable location. You can bump portals through some walls (not all) or as this video shows INTO objects. :O
