We did'nt kill the hogs but would pick them up from the slaughter house.Thats awesome I loved doing this with Bugg Wiles in middletown md we would have a ball .He moved to WV .It is a great learning experience !As a matter of fact gettin ready to make scrapple with the scraps left over from a hog that we sent to wagners meats. I am not set up to do a full scale butchering. But I'll smoke the Bacons and have the sausage seasoned special.I'm in Damascus Md.
We still do it the same way here in KY. I have my great grandpa's scalding box, lard press, kettle, and grinder. We have killed as many as 40 hogs on Thanksgiving day in the past. Now we only kill 5 or 6 every year as most the family and neighbors have left the farms to work in town. I am still here plugging along though. Thanks for the video.
This my is my family's video. I am one of the grandsons. We did 34 hogs this year between Wed-Thursday. Thanksgiving 2011
