Anonymous had the potential for good, but chose to be a group of criminal internet thugs who harm others for their own entertainment and shameless self promotion.
Anonymous shouldn't be allowed to continue there activities as far as I'm concerned. The PSN attack last year might have been aimed at Sony for removing a feature from the PS3 Console, but it was removed to stop people running 3rd party software on there console. As a result the meny PSN users were the one's who suffered. Not only that but thanks to Anonymous would don't keep a tight leash on there members, bank account information was leaked to members of the group. To be honest that just scumy
Anon ftw ! ;p but sadly they can't really do alot when they are taking down sites can they ? and put people up to 50 years jail for making a digital content site wich suddenly in 2012 the year the mayans .. bla bla ^^
I think you and the cat (at the end of the vid) is a perfect analogy to the whole situation.
I suspect that the "government" will have a "no go kitty areas" popping up all over the place before you can sit down and make another video so the "kitty" will never - ever - be seen again..
I think it's dangerous to have faceless movement. Everyone could hack websites and post it was anonymous. When Stratfor was hacked, someone posted, it was anonymous, but then someone else alleged to be from anonymous denied. Behind anonymous there cannot only be some activists, but even countries like china could attack websites in the name of anymous.
It's something like a force of nature. When they need to, they can act really quick, as lately seen with operation megaupload.
The only part acting illegal is the goverment itself, not leaving the internet users the freedom that is guaranteed in the law. So, god damn, if Anonymus wants to do anything against it, i appreciate everything
these are not HACKERS but instead their H@(|<3R$ i hate how people affiliate the term "hacker" with "illegal intent". A hacker is someone who pushes something beyond its intended purpose.
Of course it's unnecessary and unlawful. If it wasn't, do you think they'd be anti-malware products and things that advise against unsafe downloading as it may or may not contain keyloggers, etc. Hacking is a form of vigilantism whether you support its use or not, not to mention that it infringes on privacy laws which immediately is an offence by any definition.
Think what would happen in case of a war. The fundamental DNS servers are all located in the USA.
Therefore, all of this aversion and anger should be channeled into something good.
Another nice step would be abandoning operating systems like Windows and even creating new patent free hardware. It would be nice to have open source hardware.
So these people blocking websites, to me just did a first step. The second step is to build up a new Internet that cannot be simply shut down under the will of any government or organization and, as far as I know, someone is thinking about a decentralized internet. A kind of P2P network.
@Deviad How would a P2P network be safer and more proficient than a dedicated server? P2P's are frequently noted for being flooded with malware, spyware, keyloggers, etc. as they can funnel from anyone's computer with little to no protection against it.
Well, my country Italy was created thanks to a bandit, Garibaldi, that probably today would be considered as a terrorist like Osama Bin Laden. So, everything, the meaning of words, etc. is dependent upon the time factor. Facts are read differently according to the time when they are analyzed. Man is son of his time. Internet was created free with important funding principles which are: net neutrality, privacy, etc.
Packet injection? LOL u scrub. You have no idea what you're talking about. All you do in this video is spread the incorrect notion that these people are hackers. They aren't; they're crackers at best. Most of them don't know anything about computers but instead act as script kiddies and run other people's programs (such as LOIC). Doing a DDOS attack takes absolutely no skill; the only skill that one could have from doing as such would be building a successful botnet. Dumb bitch.
The founding members of anonymous are true heroes, they inspired me to take up computer security and programming lessons and as soon as im up to date i will definatly join them in their war on censorship efforts.
It's a needless form of protest, for true freedom of speech means we have to hear even the bad ideas and people talk. Attacking speech you disagree with, the way Anonymous does, is using the same reasoning our government does for taking away our freedoms, "to protect the freedom." In reality, to protect freedom of speech, you have to learn to tolerate even speech that outrages you, or at least ignore it, like I do.

half the shit you was was lulzsecurity (lulzsec) the anonymous that laucnhed operation payback was a group of 4 people that used teenagers from 4chan as pawns, and th3 j35t3r took down wikileaks. so some of your information is correct, but youve merged 3 different groups into "anonymous" which is the most childish and inexperienced of the 3, and should not get all the credit
Bunch of stupid kids who think they are 'hackers'. Nothing more than denial-of-service attacks and stupid pranks... Quit pretending to be tech gods, and go learn how a computer actually works and how to use its full potential--learn to hack.
I don't really have an opinion on what Anonymous does, some of it I agree with some of it I don't so I can't justifiably comment on anonymous as a whole. I think what they've done more recently is more reputable than in the past. However on the flip side I think the government and such "think" they have more control on the internet than they do, and think they deserve more traffic than they do. So as far as anything being "illegal" they can kiss my ass.
What they were doing wasn't so bad until they killed the Playstation Network(PSN). It affected WAY TOO MANY users. I was literally crying while the PSN was down, the many friends and a few girl friends of mine were cut off from our usual voice communication(via online PS3 games) and had to resort to facebook(OH THE HORROR) and other forms of communication. Plus not getting to talk to my cousins for free long distance as opposed to paying for Long distance phone calls, was definitely a pain.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. As someone who grew up in South Africa under Apartheid law, I cannot condemn resistance to an unjust regime. I do worry though that a group like Anonymous is essentially a 'loose cannon' that cannot be curtailed when they sometimes go to far.
And what do we do when the leaders of the oppressed become the very oppressors we once stood together to overthrow?
who controls the internet if it's worldwide.. the US government? lol.. ok so lets see, wikileaks pissed off the government, mastercard is tied in with the government so they shut down their wikileaks service.. annonymous made mastercard's site crash. so basically we have corrupt government wanting to hide secrets vs vigilante hackers that wont be pushed around. +1 for annonymous.
Actually Anonymous hacked the church of scientology website and then scientology got pissed and posted on epieptic sites and said it was anonymous to make them look bad... . They announced this on 4chan and on a couple news websites please get it right next time...
I fully support anonymous, because it's like having someone that has your back when the corporations try to take the freedom of the internet. They are the superheros of the internet and I salute them.
Who is to say you can't be an ethical cracker? Who is to say that cracking to find bugs is the only 'legitimate' use of cracking tools?
Now the Weather Underground was a mixed bag. I dont support attacks on civilians, but I DO support both self defense and revealing the ugly truth corrupt governments would rather hide. Without the Weather Underground stealing files from the feds we wouldn't know about CoIntelPro and other corruption of the Nixon era. Truth or ignorance?
@NickDjinn Most of what Anonymous did I actually was all for but hacking the PSN was NOT a good decision. I agree with cracking in order to support the freedom of the internet but killing some people's only form of communication with family or friends was NOT the way to go about protesting Sony's removal of the Install Other OS feature. While I myself was pretty pissed off at Sony for removing this feature, I would have never advocated them hacking the PSN. Picket-fencing would have worked.
I am an Anarcho-Syndicalist. I am fundamentally opposed to the commercial property model of ownership....This extends to things like land "ownership" which should belong to the people in common. I am a socialist because I believe that the people should share certain things in common and receive the full benefit of the product of their labor without an economic elite taking most of it....I think Anonymous did some dumb things early on, but they are fighting for worthy causes today.
Well ... when I saw hackers, I thought this video would deal with some people like The mentor, mitnick, or even Ken Thompson ... In fact no.
Annonymous ... hackers ? WTF ?
Real hackers create DDoS programs, script kiddies use it. From the beggining, Annonymous only attacked by DoS ? What would be a hacker if he only use ONE vulnerability during his whole life ? Would xss, csrf, trace, upload & many other vulnerabilities be known if hackers just used DoS ? O.o
@FDGod151 & YellownoiseRecords: DDoS attacks are not the only tool available to Anonymous or any other true hacker, in fact, every professional knows that each task has a tool designed for it. To take sites down while making a statement, the DDoS attack is preferred. Just because a hacker uses one tool most of the time, doesn't mean that said hacker only has that tool. My advice would be to inform yourself properly before making an ass of yourself by making an ignorant statement.
@webmastereyedoll UMADBRO? reread what i posted you dumb cunt what im saying is anonymous would rather ddos because it's much easier seeing the the web is full of insecure/unpatched users which are vul to infection with malware not only this but ddos is a script kiddie tool period not only that they claim to "fight the right for freedom" but that does not include violating other peoples privacy correct this is why the united states needs a privacy act there really is no right to privacy yet.
@FDGod151 Wow... I'm a dumb cunt now... LOL - OK, I will not argue with your opinion because we all have a right to our own opinion, there's no need to argue. I will say this, however, I think that using a computer should be like using a car. A potential user should take a test to prove that he/she knows more than how to turn the damn thing on.
why say "no really they are called anonymous" like noone knows everyone knows who anonymous is and i assume a great deal of nixxies viewers know alot about computers and the internet
not sure depends on their motives are they trying to protect those among us that don't realize they are being miss treated by the corporations and protecting internet neutrality or trying to make a name for them selves and using "look we are doing this to help you" to avoid public outcry against them. i would love to believe they are trying to help but ppl operating outside the law must prove themselves. after showing they can be trusted i think they would have a much larger fan base
@coldsn sorry to tell you, but that is incorrect. Dos is a generic term, whereas ddos is more specific. Ddosing is a type of dos(denial of service) just like smurfing and syn flooding. A ddos attack is an attack that uses many different ip addresses to makenit both mor powerful and harder to filter. Anonymous, if I'm not mistaken, uses volunteers who run a program to add themselves to their botnet, thus, even by your definition, making it a ddos attack. I hope this cleared things up!
Anonymous indeed had a point, and I was involved in some discussions around the EFF that debated whether they had done more harm, or more good. While I agree with their political standing, I can't necessarily agree with the execution of a DDoS attack. Ultimately however, I think that in defense of free speech, no measure is really too far, and most of the so called "Anti-Piracy" laws (COICA and Protect I.P.), are more censorship than anything else, and I'm out of characters for this comment.
like anything the main real issue here is power in the wrong hands, which leads to abuse of that power. where as in the right hands it could be a good thing, it should not be a question of should it be allowed it should be a question of who and why
depends who there targeting ,why and what the end goal is . ddos child porn sites while exposing them to authority , im sure the law would not mind. also its shockingly easy to ddos, the only draw back to do it effectlity is you need a network of serveral computers to send enough data packets all at once
Haha, personally these guys are my heroes. Idk if they are fighting the good fight but i believe they are above the law, and they can be because they are so pro. its more of a game than anything else. and Anonymous is winning however "porn day" on youtube doesn't seem okay. I mean if they named it stuff like how to videos or things like that not names they knew children would click on then fine. but because they targeted children i cannot back them up on that.
Can someone explain how UDP flooding is hacking ? Anon hacking is just the state manufacturing consent to install internet law. Sure, a ton of people from /b/ join in,but the whole thing smells of some authoritative handling ala 1970's FBI infiltrations.
Has she no other interests besides tech? Like watch movies? TV shows? Music? Watching the sunset? She gives the impression of someone who does nothing but stare at a computer all day
@electrictroy2010 Your un-nerdiness is a little bit worrisome. When I go to a channel about tech I don't want to find talk about movies, TV shows, music, or watching the sunset. That's not to say I don't have interests in any of that stuff, but I'd prefer a channel stick to its theme so the viewers don't have to sort through a hundred different types of videos.
Want a girl to talk about tech in addition to movies, tv shows, and music? Sounds like you need a geek dating site.
we are anonymous, we are aware of the corruption in the world's governments and their apathy for the human lives because of money.
we are aware of the governments' attempt to cover on the news of the rebellions to keep us as slaves for the current system.
we are anonymous, we declare war on the corrupted system, join the plan to get your freedom and rights back. you are a human being, your life has value. we are anonymous, we are legion, expect us!
In the future there will be controls to limit mischeavious Internet behavior. Just like we don't see viruses sweeping the globe anymore (Code Red, Melissa). That hole has been plugged. Plus human nature is maturing with each generation. Internet pranks will be un-cool in the future. A double whami. My prediction is there will be better controls and fewer cracker in centuries to come.
people are always talking about how hackers are bad but they dont even know when hackers were born. the term hacker was used before the internet in the 1950s when a coulpe of kids from MIT did something that start a revolution google it .
This week the News of the World admitted to hacking mobile phones. Today anyone can buy software to take others peoples freedom to Privacy away and this they claim is legal. I believe Freedom of Privacy is a human right and we should all fight for that right. Big Brother is with us and so far no media is protesting?
Make clear the distinction between DoS and DDoS. DDoS pretty much means botnets are the powerhouse of the 'attack' while DoS means there's a person behind each node who's in on it. Typical anonymous/internet protest uses the latter. DoS should be treated as a right just as the right to protest much be preserved in the physical world.
i think someone has to do something and because its not fiscally hurting people im ok with it but is DDoSing all they are doing cuz even i can do that
@KevinBogdanMusic i dont even know how i got here? lol im not gonna watch this video lol, i just need to look at the comments... (so this video talks shit about DDOSing? I love my caring community of slaves... =D)
i don't think anonymous is an actual group. anybody can claim they are part of anonymous. its a movement not a group. the anonymous movement is made up of angry teenagers and bored computer geeks some of whom have political agendas. i think some of them are fighting the good fight, at least in their own ideology they are. however the majority of people who call themselves anonymous are just skirting laws they find inconvenient.
Being that I am among the collective. I believe it is a viable form of protest. Think about protest. When Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus it was indeed illegal. However, It was the right thing to do to break the law. Anonymous feels the same way as Rosa Parks. It may be illegal what we do but it is definitely needed. Protest with a sitin now and the militarized police carry you away and taser you. Thats if their feeling generous. The police and politicians abuse the power given them now
Yeah so hacking video game consoles and stealing people's information is fighting the good fight.
Don't make me laugh. You just want to think your above everyone when by doing what you did to PSN you became exactly what you were fighting against.
And what about Lulzsec, hacking the CIA website, hacking Codemasters,Sega,Eidos,Lockheed Martin among others. That's fighting the good fight. What a joke.
There is a big difference between what Rosa Parks did and what your doing.
@snake2006 First of all what LULZsec did with Sony and other groups has nothing to do with Anonymous. However, that said. Sony got a court order to view the personal information of over 1 million youtube users and their account information for simply watching a video GeoHot put on youtube about jailbreaking software for the PS3. Anonymous DDoS'ed Sony but we did not hack Sony. We shut their server down for 1 hour. They took the server down there after.
@snake2006 Furthermore, Sony released a press release that said Anonymous was nothing more than a nuisance and they were laughing about our DDoS. At that point they angered the world wide hacking community and got their arses hacked off big time. Dont be blaming Anonymous for Sony's stupidity. Has Anonymous hacked anyone? Yes, HBGary Federal, HBGary, and the CEO Aaron Barr, and the Westboro Baptist Church. We make absolutely no apology for that either.
It is illegal. But I think people just can't take all the surveillance we are exposed to every day.
I'm no conspiracy theorist but I do think that the government use the internet to watch what we do. And flooding a server is a form of protest.
As you may notice that black hats don't attack bodies like Cancer Research or the Salvation Army. They only aim the things that are ripping off all people.
Offtopic but your website footer is displaying error:
Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /home/nixie/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wassup/wassup.php on line 3954
You might want to turn off any php warning/error message on production server for hacking reasons.
Am I the only one who was not surprised by this? My general rule is to never take smug, indignant foss advocacy seriously, especially coming out of the mouth of an ubufag. Though it is kinda cute coming from her. tl;dr Intelligent, no; Fap material, yes.
Also, lol'd @ "She doesn't mean socket programming is illegal, she means that using such means to compile a DDOS attack is illegal."
You're asking whether Anonymous is good or bad? Well - mostly, they are immature, misguided, and possibly delusional. But, let's compare that to - ohhhh - dopeheads. The average pot smoker is immature, misguided, and possibly delusional. But, even so, he is often times a decent guy, whose freedoms are being infringed upon by law enforcement and government.
Yeah, I think that analogy fits. I'm not proud of Anonymous, but they happen to get some things right!
My God Niki You of ALL people should know that Anonymous are NOT hackers... They are simply script kiddies doing bull shit that any moron can do..... the fact is they are all doing it at the same time so they seem to be "powerful"
They are criminals and bring a bad name to true hackers such as yourself
Hm, last time i looked, an Socket Attack, was just possible with more Computers or different IPs from Clients, then the attacked system could handle. So, old system just have 65535 Sockets, after boot it should have around 65100 Sockets free to use. So, you need this amount of different IP's to consume all sockets of you victim and the system could'nd handle more, so it's an half open attack most times. But *nix systems could handle 2 ^ 64 sockets atm, so how could you cosume them ;)
"socket programming"...?? c'mon guys... don't say things like that, you only perform to tell everybody, in 2 words, how much you don't know what programming really means...

Do you think it’s fair to put a copyright on things like “double click”, “multitasking” and so on?
Do you think that in our era, when something is old after 3 months since it’s devised, it’s wise to have copyrights lasting for 50 years?

NickDjinn 5 months ago

Sandurz20 7 months ago
Anonymous indeed had a point, and I was involved in some discussions around the EFF that debated whether they had done more harm, or more good. While I agree with their political standing, I can't necessarily agree with the execution of a DDoS attack. Ultimately however, I think that in defense of free speech, no measure is really too far, and most of the so called "Anti-Piracy" laws (COICA and Protect I.P.), are more censorship than anything else, and I'm out of characters for this comment.

depends who there targeting ,why and what the end goal is . ddos child porn sites while exposing them to authority , im sure the law would not mind. also its shockingly easy to ddos, the only draw back to do it effectlity is you need a network of serveral computers to send enough data packets all at once

Make clear the distinction between DoS and DDoS. DDoS pretty much means botnets are the powerhouse of the 'attack' while DoS means there's a person behind each node who's in on it. Typical anonymous/internet protest uses the latter. DoS should be treated as a right just as the right to protest much be preserved in the physical world.

i don't think anonymous is an actual group. anybody can claim they are part of anonymous. its a movement not a group. the anonymous movement is made up of angry teenagers and bored computer geeks some of whom have political agendas. i think some of them are fighting the good fight, at least in their own ideology they are. however the majority of people who call themselves anonymous are just skirting laws they find inconvenient.
greycloud24 8 months ago
This is a safer way to protest and more effective because it hits them where their billion dollar power is. Their wallets.
F0ra11Fr33m3n 8 months ago
Being that I am among the collective. I believe it is a viable form of protest. Think about protest. When Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus it was indeed illegal. However, It was the right thing to do to break the law. Anonymous feels the same way as Rosa Parks. It may be illegal what we do but it is definitely needed. Protest with a sitin now and the militarized police carry you away and taser you. Thats if their feeling generous. The police and politicians abuse the power given them now
F0ra11Fr33m3n 8 months ago
@F0ra11Fr33m3n
There is a big difference between what Rosa Parks did and what your doing.
snake2006 8 months ago
@snake2006 First of all what LULZsec did with Sony and other groups has nothing to do with Anonymous. However, that said. Sony got a court order to view the personal information of over 1 million youtube users and their account information for simply watching a video GeoHot put on youtube about jailbreaking software for the PS3. Anonymous DDoS'ed Sony but we did not hack Sony. We shut their server down for 1 hour. They took the server down there after.
F0ra11Fr33m3n 8 months ago
