Xandria is one of the greatest symphonic metal bands...but the difference between them and Nightwish or Within Temptation can be seen by reading the lyrics. It is no need to compare if you read some Nightwish lyrics and those of Xandria. In fact, why do we have to apreciate bands by comparing them? Xandria is so original and even that unfortunately Lisa left, they'll always be the same Xandria with their songs caressed by a brilliant voice.

Well the fact is that some bands are defined by the entirety of sound while some are unique due to certain element in band.

Nightwish is what it is not because of Tarjas traditional opera vocals, but because of complex lyrics and arrangements of Tuomas, Marco's backing vocals, etc. Its an entity on itself and Annette still fits into it.

Xandria on other hand. Vocalist is what made this band really unique. She is really unique voice in metal scene and without her Xandria lost its charm.

This one is very very very catchy. Nice words in it too. The whole "who we are, who we want to be..." is quite addictive. Xandria seems 2 have found a good formula, nice mix of things in all albums.

Xandria combines a variety of different types of metal etc., I prefer to think of them as symphonic metal, meaning that they have elements pretaining to classical. The atmosphereic effect is probably the product of combining these different styles of music...and the result, is excellent! =)
