  • How come the organ player is not on film?

  • @matrox We couldn't fit everyone in the shot, it was just a jam with a hand-held camera on a tripod...unfortunately, Josh had to be sacrificed, hahaha...but that's a shame, since he's just so awesome! Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy our other videos as well! Cheers :)

  • @alvarokapaz Cool...can you ask him to post a tutorial on You tube on how to play Cissy Strut on keyboard?

  • @matrox sure thing...already forwarded your comment to him...cheers!

  • @alvarokapaz Great cuz I can't figure these riffs out.

  • GOOD PLAYING !

  • @vintagereproguitarra Thank you very much! Hope you enjoy our other videos as well :)

  • The guitarist in red shirt gives funky solid comp for 1st solo, guitarist in white shirt gives no support to others, work on your rhythm it's a role any guitar player should be

accomplished at.We end up playing rhthym(chords) at least 75% of the time anyway. Just a suggestion 4U2B-come a stronger player.Peace.

  • @UnitedEffect HAH! Yes, thank you!! As the "guitarist in red shirt", I really appreciate your comment...and have said so myself to Ryan, my counterpart. In his defence, we were just goofing around and he just took it to another level of "whatever"...but I agree with you! Also, thank you for recognizing and complimenting my comping :) Hope you enjoy our other videos as well. Peace!

  • @alvarokapaz I checked out this video while looking for some tunes to bring up at a regular Saturday night jam in Montreal;Cissy Strut seems like a good vehicle to imrovise with. I'll definately check out some of your other videos too.

    Thanks.Peace; Glenn

  • @UnitedEffect Hey, Glenn! Yeah, this song is a great one for jam sessions, you can pretty much take it wherever you want to go...thanks for watching! Al

  • totally loooooooooooost the groove, not very funky more rock

  • @boogiehead100 ...agree to disagree ;) Thanks for watching!

  • The drum part sounds like a version of Steve Gadd's "50 ways to leave your lover" groove.

  • @drumnut001 good call! :)

  • You guys frickin rock. I would kill to have some neighbors like yall. killer blues jam in D

  • @ciants Thanks a lot, man! Hope you enjoy the videos I recently uploaded, from the 2009 "Nothing to Something" jams...and don't go killin' nobody ;) PEACE!

  • I heard some nice playing there! Good stuff!

  • Keep it going like that guy's ^5

  • @MrGoldfangaz49 Thanks, my friend! Just uploaded a bunch of new videos, check them out, hope you like them as well! Thanks for watching :)

  • You guys r good, keep it up. Although guitarist in the background stop playing over the other guys solo!!

  • @dillweed44 HAHAHA!!! I really appreciate you saying that, my friend! I tell him that every time I watch that video again..."why did you keep goofing around over my solo??", hahaha...but it's all good, jams are jams! Glad you liked it, thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the other videos up on my profile as well. Cheers!

  • Excellent, Mr. Kapaz! The mood, the intonation and the improvs. Kudos to everyone in the band!

  • @rmoraespinto Thank you very much, Mr. Moraes! Hope you enjoy the other videos we have up here, as well as my band, Project K-Paz (projectkpaz . com). Thank you for watching! :)

  • which one of these guys is scofield?

  • @deadzior Well, none of them. John Scofield is one of the best guitar players of the last 30 years, and is now 59 years old...we are all mid-20 on that video. The reason for the tittle is that we are playing "Cissy Strut", a song by The Meters, and we are playing it in the John Scofield version...thanks for watching! :)

  • What are these guys? Metal players? You've got to live to play this song. It's not about histrionics. It's about grease ... and soul. And in-the-pocket playing. This is too noisy.

  • @bapyou I hear you, man. I totally dig that nasty smooth groovy playing, even kind of minimalist, but that was just not the mood we were in when we played this...I guess that is the beauty of music, that it reflects the mood of the group at the time they are playing...and it doesn't mean it's better/worse than anything else...it's just different ;)

  • @VoyagerStudios Yeah, I know what you mean...we actually chose to go more with the Scofield version, which is a little more straight-ahead funky...and let's agree, also great! Hope you enjoy our other videos as well, and thanks for watching! :)

  • nice drummer work

  • Great groove.

  • @YanceySpecial Thanks, man! The groove is what it's all about :-)

  • what scales and key do u use for soloing over this ?? thanx

  • @megadethdudeluke well, during the solo section is just a big C minor vamp, so I use pretty much anything, hahahah...but mainly C dorian, C altered, or just plain C minor...thanks for watching, hope you like the other videos up on my profile as well! :)

  • In the first guitarist solo (white tshirt) I hear a lot of Govan-y playing I think

  • @KevinLipman10 I'll be sure to tell him that! Thanks for watching :-)

  • Nice!

  • @notto86 Thanks, man!

  • nope...addin way to much brothers...keep it laid back and smooth.

  • Fair enough. Thanks for watching and for the input, hope you like the other videos up on my profile as well ;-)

  • thats a fatty jam dude im like dude the drum solo is doin it raw dog!

  • Thanks, man! Hope you enjoy the other videos up on my profile as well ;-)

  • What does this song have to do with John Scofield?

  • Man, Scofield has a GREAT version of it, almost as famous as the original, which has the "B section" modulate, that's why we're doing that...you should definitely check it out! ;-)

Thanks for watching, hope you like the other videos up on my profile as well!

  • With all due respect--NOTHING is nearly as famous (or as FUNKY!) as the original Meters version. I'm from New Orleans--still live here too--and I grew up with the Meters, so I guess I'm a little biased! BTW, I saw Scofield and PSB at Tipitina's just this past sat. night--they were great!

  • I agree with you there, the Meters are THE FUNKIEST band, man! Sco's version is more "fusion-ee", but it's also interesting...which one is better I'll leave to our personal tastes to decide...but that one is definitely also worth checking out ;-)

  • Great sound, guys --- you made this song your own. Everyone seemed to be listening to everyone else. Nice.

Also, I'm with Bigalu, the 2nd line drums are very cool.

  • Thanks a lot! Yeah, the vibe was great that day and we really felt like we were on the same wave length...and yeah, that drum line is kinda like the original Meters version, more of a New Orleans vibe.

Thanks for watching, hope you also like the other videos up on my profile! Peace

    :-)

  • On the drums a sort New Orleans 2 line!!! That's cool!

  • Wow guys, you're great!! One of the best jams in youtube.

    Congratulations!!

  • Thanks a lot for watching and for the kind words! Hope you like the other videos on my profile as well :-)

  • nice cover guys!! check out ours at our page

  • you guys recorded quite alot in a day .. awesme

  • Thanks, it was a great jam, recorded all at once! ;-)

  • hey i recognize that room :p nice job guys

  • Thanks! And thanks for watching. How long has it been since you were there? :)

  • (its the same person as guitarmann199 just a dif acount) im a hopefull senior so ive been in that room for many classes but i hope to attend next year

  • Let me know, we'll jam! ;-)

  • thanks i gotta get in first

  • it's really easy don't worry about it.

  • This blew my mind, all of you guys. I've got some serious transcribing to do

  • Thank you very much! Let me know if you're ever in Boston, we can jam! Peace

  • you guys fuckin rock. some serious shit. damn.

  • Hey, man, thank you very much! Hope you also like the other videos up on my profile... ;-)

  • Nice Guitar! Both.

    Nice combo of styles.

Need more time to gel as a unit as far as interplay goes. Or probably just need to warm up a bit more as towards the end it develops nicely.

I'd like to hear a well recorded live show for better sound quality.

Better than most so-called jam bands out there making money today!!

    ShahWWhheeeeet!

  • Thank you so much! We were jamming for the very first time there, so all you are saying makes a lot of sense! Unfortunately we're each from one corner of the world, so we're all playing in different bands now... check out some of the other videos on my profile ;-)

  • Fantastic, Our band is gonna play Cissy Strut for the first time at a gig tonight. Thanks for a little inspiration.

  • Hey, man, thank YOU for the kind words! The best thing one can hope for as a musician is to inspire fellow musicians to play music :-)

Also, check out our new project, Project K-Paz (projectkpaz . com) for some soulful, inspired, completely improvised and spontaneous music...we are releasing our first CD and DVD next month. Spread the word if you can, we can use all the help we can get!

    Cheers!

  • nice one!

  • good playin...check mines out and leave a comment...... thanks

  • the drummer sets a nice groove, its nice how he didnt follow the original meters groove (although that, of course, is an awesome groove). I am a drummer is into jazz and funk so take this comment for whatever you think it is worth. I wish I could hear the bass a little bit more, but you guys sound really good overall. check our my band tasty bacon if your into this same kinda funk with a horn section though

  • Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it! I appreciate the comment and definitely take it very seriously. The audio you can hear was captured by the video cam, so I agree, it lacks bass. Feel free to check out the rest of our jams on my profile, and stay tuned for a DVD/CD release this year with more jams! Peace

  • Sorry to break your spirits THEspindoctor84, but that groove is pretty much the same exact,(little variations) as the John Scofield Flat Out album.

  • Oh, hah, i guess I havent heard that one, I have only heard the original meters one. Oh well, still sounds good!

  • Friggin AWESOME!

  • Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it! Feel free to check out the rest of our jams on my profile, and stay tuned for a DVD/CD release this year with more jams! Peace

  • good job guys :)

  • Thanks, dude! Check out some of our other Jams on my profile! Peace

  • That drummer knows what's up.

  • Yeah, man! Thanks...BC Taylor is the man! Check out some of the other videos I have that he's in. Peace!

  • Freaking awsome !! Just love it !

What material do you use ? (Distortion etc.) Thanks !

  • Thanks, man! Well, Ryan was using a "Box of Metal" pedal, from Z-Vex, and I was using an Ibanez TS-808 moded by Robert Keeley, a Electro-harmonix Memory man deluxe delay, and a Metatone King of the Britains distortion. We were both going through Fender Deluxe amps...and as you can see, we're both playing strats, mine is a '65 and his is an American Standard with different pickups, I don't now which...

  • Ok ! Because the guy who is next to drums(dunno who is it!), has a fucking great sound :)). Thanks for your answer and keep playing that's really cool !

  • But the other guy too :)) See ya ;)

  • Thanks a lot, man!

  • Good job!

  • Thanks, man! Check out some of the other videos if you like! ;-)

  • cool yo boots and enjoy it! half as fast man!

  • yeah, maybe a little slower could have grooved more...but I sure did enjoy it, man! :-)

  • fair enough! that's the main thing, and good job anyway!

  • Thanks, man...did you get to the second solo? That's the one I play...what did you think? I went for the Scofield vibe, lol...let me know your thoughts! :-)

  • chill out with the distortion and get funkier

  • Wait for the second solo...VERY different...

  • It seems now that the only covers i see of this song, excluding john mayer's version, uses WAY TOO MUCH DISTORTION. This song is definitely fun to jam out to but its a song of groove and feel. Not loud and flashy. Play this song with no distortion and more accents on the drums. That is how funk should be played. IMO.

  • Hey, man, I respect your opinion, but we really don't have to play like anyone else...this is OUR version...plus, on the original version, the drums stay just like that, new orleans style...funk is a loooooot of things...and people have said that scofield doesn't play jazz because he uses overdrive...do you agree with that?? I don't...

    Peace ;-)

  • Also, wait for the second solo, very different...hope you like it!

  • it sounds like yall change keys for the b section(?). i dont think they do that on the original recording

  • Yeah, we prefer it like that...and I think Scofield does it... ;-)

  • Allright, but that solo wasn't funky at all.

  • Well, bro, we're tryin'...

  • ah. youre right. i had never heard sco's version. and yea don't worry about the harsh criticism, yall did a good job. however, it could be a bit funkier. just try to approach it with more soul and with less of a "shredder" sound. nice job overall

  • man this sounds good. our jazz band at my school is playing this tune! one of the funkiest tunes around!!

  • i thought it was pretty good just gor a bit soupy at the jam.

  • what drumset is that?

  • Looks like my high school jazz band classroom

  • Sounds good!!!

  • Thanks!

  • cool jam !!!

  • Thanks, check out some of the other videos, they're almost all jams!

  • too fastttTTTTTTTTT

  • very nice job fellas, nailin' it down.

  • Thanks a lot, man!

    ;-)

  • It`s a "the meters" song, Scofield covered it

  • Yes, but like I already said below, we play the Scofield version...

  • ok, but you should include the original songwriters in the title, 90% of the arrangement is similar to the meters version

Scofield just added a different beat (Bill Stweart?)

  • Fair enough, will do...thanks for the comments.

Oh, and the drummer on that track, which is on the "Flat Out" album, is either Terri Lyne Carrington or Johnny Vidacovich...Bill Stuart only joined Sco's band a couple of years ago...

  • I saw Scofield with Bill Stewart in prague back ìn `98, so they`ve played together for that long at least, anyway good to see "Meters" in the headline

  • bill stuart and steve swallow for awhile, also chambers

  • gotta love the berklee ensemble rooms.

  • 5*, but do you possibly have the original version to upload?

  • This song is The Meters!

  • Yeah, but we played the Sco Version...so technically you are both right...hehehe...

  • Cool, but why the guitars don´t play with the drums?

    More groove and good job!

  • well done guys

  • nice!
