This guy is good no doubt but all he does is shred solos. Most people want to hear what it sounds like playing rhythm chugga and some shred. I didn't get much from this demo except the guy is a faster player than me.. Thankfully there are more "real situation" playing demos on YouTube.
wow nice and thick bottom end growl, good gravel-y grind, good upper mid not excessive, just enough to give edge and definition.Excellent for punchy rock and dark and tight for drop tuning.
The gain is a little low for heavier but the right boost pedal will take care of that anyways!
Wow, this is better than a Fireball! I mean ENGL's Fireball and more powerful "balls" have too much gain! Way too much as I hear. This has that rich, harmonic, yet raw sound what high gain amps MUST have, without that razor high what ruins those power bags! Fantastic sounding amp for the first (youtube) quality.
The Thunder combo comes with the speaker in the enclosure. Look at the pictures. It's less versatile in terms of speaker selection. You're stuck with one speaker in the combo. If you got the head you have a choice of 412 212 112 with any different speaker combination. I hope I cleared things up for you.
hey guys, does anyone know whether the combo version of this amp would have the same tone? i mean regarding the quality? i know that the stack sounds a lot louder, but i think for me a 50 watt versoin would definetely be loud enough.
It has almost the same tone, the 4x12 cabinet has a closed back, and the combo has a open back. So you won't get as much low end as the 4x12 cab. But yeah, it's definatly loud enough!
ENGL amps are kickass! I have a screamer, it is great! there are many people who thinks that a 50 watt amp is not loud enough. that is not true. i keep the lead volume at about 1 o'clock, and the master at one out of ten. it is still loud! if it is a tube amp, 50 watts is more than enough.
I chose the combo because of the size. it is easier to drag around, and although it is VERY heavy for a combo, u can carry it by yourself. if u have a cab, either a 2*12 or a 4*12, u will need someone to help you carry it, or u're gonna need a little trolley. obviously this won't be a problem -if u're not in a band, and use it at home only. a closed cab will also give u more bottom end, even a 1*12, because the combo hasn't got a closed back. it depends on how much sound u want. the combo=great.
Chatreeo , Its SO MUCH better to hear you play with some feel, and not doing your typical speed shred. Your FAR too talented to just speed play bro. Nice !
After 30 years listening to that "feeling" topic crap i've finally understood what do you try to say, and it's basically to play "bluesy" fully Pentatonic with no major ,no minor scales, no modes and no arpeggios, and of course "slowly" so your limited brains can follow the melodic secuence, in fact everything that not fits your limited music understanding and ear. Sad but true.
People play guitar for different reasons, not everyone wants to 'let out their emotions'. If they want to play fast, then that's their choice, who are you to say 'Play with some feeling!'
There're few things more emotional than a fast run in a rock solo. It's true that there are people that abuses this technique and play mindless fast stuff but playing fast is as emotional as playing slow or probably more.
Other people when they say "feeling" they mean "play a 3 note melody i can understand"
A lot of them are dumb brittish pop listeners, which is in my opinion the coldest and most feelingless music in the world.
but there alsways one thign i hate about chatreeo's videos is o every single guitar, or amp, or pedal he alwasy goes out of his way to get the exact same tone first before recording, we get more of a vibe of what tone he likes more than the different tones and sounds u can get from the pedals, amps and guitars he test plays.
1. I can see where it would be hard to get in the flow of songs.
2. Having to stop in the middle to turn knobs, interrupts the flow.
3. Once I get started on a song, I keep going on and on, until I've exhausted the possibility, then I stop to turn some Knobs. That would be a long video, cut up into 10 min segments.
Good job, lots of shredding, but that's what ENGLs are about. @7:10 you really began to get this puppy dialed in.

lol i love it when some one is practicing and post it up on youtube or its a lesson about technique.
when those crazy runs come up their first thing some one says is "it has no feeling" that usually means "i act a like world class musician"
when its something they cant understand they always say its missing soul first of all not every one expresses the same way as others
why is every thing categorized in 2 emotions? why cant i express nervousness,Confusion or Fear? y always sadness and joy?
