Actually they dub the movie for those who can't READ - like small children for example....!!! --- It IS a childrens movie - and they don't really care if it isn't lip-synked - not until they are a bit older...
@sygo7g Thats right lol, you sure do. Kids are just not satisfied anymore cause I know a guy that has a little boy and he is only 4 years old and he is already asking his daddy for 50.00 dollars.
This reminds me so much of the good ole days. Days where kids were more satisfied with what they got. Now days its like "Daddy can I have $50.00 dollars"
I've been avoiding wanting to buy the new dubbed DVD version because I have the old VHS english tapes. As much as I'd love this in Swedish with english subtitles seeing this makes me want to buy this new dubbed version just to see it again remastered.
I think it´s rather funny that they have changed some of the lines to fit with what English speaking kids. In the Swedush (the correct one :)) They say that they are happy that otäs saturday otherwise they wouldn't been allowed to eat candy. In Swedeb we call it lördagsgodis (Saturday's candy)
Oh my sweet succulent Jebus, this is appalling! As a Swede who grew up with Astrid Lindgren's books and movies (born in 1985), this is a figurative rape of my childhood.
Now I know how gutted you Brits must have felt when so many european countries dubbed Dr Snuggles, Danger Mouse, Alias the Jester, Raggy Dolls (Neil Innes for the win!) and the likes. I mainly point in the direction of the works of Cosgrove Hall as they were so FANTABULSOUSLY great in the '80s.
People who dub anything except cartoons/animations should be hanged. Looks ridiculous.
... When that's said, anyone else thinks the candy looked way better "back in the old days"? Especially in that old candy store. Now you just buy it in plastic bags at the grocery store, where they're filled with artificial crap and unnatural coloring.
Depends a lot. In town we still have one store like this called Kanolds, which is also a very old chocolate maker here where I live, and every time I visit them it's like travelling back in time. And we still make much candy the old fashioned way, but it is of course more expensive.
@Starchild91 Keep in mind, it's a kids' program, and little kids aren't very likely to sit and read subtitles. Now as an adult, personally, I'd love to have the original Swedish with English subtitles, but there just isn't enough of a demand for it.
@Starchild91 there is a reason for dubbing it. i hate dubs myself and I grew up in small country not knowing english till i was 15 or so. You cant read subs properly till you at least 11-12 years old. so are you going to simultaneousley interpret for all the little kids because you have hanged all dubbers? and then i dont get any one who have you a thumb up for this nonsense...
@Vipatko I've read subs for as long as I can remember, and I've never had a problem with it. I also think reading subs instead of listening to a dubbed version has great advantages - as it helps you not only get better at reading, but also teaches you a little about the language you're hearing. Whether it's Swedish, English, Japanese, Italian or whatever... It helps you, especially young children, to recognize a language later - which is always a good thing.
@Starchild91 ok, so you could read since you were 5 or 6, right? Thats great, but what about the rest of non brainial population? dubs are necessary no matter whats your opinion on them is.
@Vipatko Most kids watch TV a lot. And they're just spending more and more time in front of the TV. Why not keep the subtitles there, and encourage them to read? There's nothing wrong with that, Either you'll end up with a generation of kids that are excellent readers from a very young age, or you'll end up with kids that would rather go outside and play instead of sitting inside, watching TV. It's a win-win situation, don't you agree?
@Starchild91 That candy was visually pretty, but sitting out there uncovered with all those kiddies putting their grubby little mitts all over it, that's a staph epidemic waiting to happen.
Well, I used to watch it in spanish when I was little and still loving it. It is wonderful that masterpieces like this can be made available in various languages for the world to see :)
@kockyfications No, it's from Sweden. Pippi Långstrump. The author of the books is Swedish - Astrid Lindgren. The actors are Swedish. I know there is a German cartoon, though.
I think the British English dub sounds slightly better than the old American English dub: at least they sound like children. The American dub sounds like women trying to sound childlike.
