I hate using expressions such as,"They don't make them like this anymore", but they DON'T,simple as that, lol! Donna Summer was a huge part of the 80s for me,even after she, supposedly, made her comment about AIDS being God's retribution on gays! Other than Streisand,in terms of longevity, there really isn't anyone else quite like her from back then! Summer's best album,in my opinion was "Live and More"
Only a few that are here had the golden opportunity like I had, to listen and watch this video on Mmusic when it came out, it brings a deja vu instant to me.....
I agree with those comments about music and its present lack of direction.Let's hope there's somebody out there with vision to preserve these terrific tunes...
donna summer the disco queen in the 1970s, but madonna was the disco queen in 1983, in 1985 madonna did disco, dance and new wave and she became the rock queen
madonna the rock queen!!! madonna and donna summer were great performers in rock history
Good memories of this song!! We had a family car trip true europe the spring 1989 from Norway, Germany and to Holland, and its was playing in the radio all the TIME..Nice song in good times Thank you from Norway ( i was 17 year old then)
@haining49 Indeed 1987 was a better year! But Donna Summer made a come back in 1989 with this song like Diana Ross did, but Donna Summer was for me the best comeback.
@mimidec67 Extremely well written. Slick tonal center changes from major to melodic minor, with a lyrical, non-forced melody. Perfect orchestration and superb string counterpoint, the composers/arrangers of this particular piece were no hacks to be sure! Take that from a major label's recording studio musical director/composer/arranger. This was Donna's strongest tune, musically, next to her cover of MacArthur Park, a total masterpiece from Webb.
Donna Summer vs Diana Ross vs Dionne Warwicke vs Aretha Franklin vs Gladys Knight vs Whitney Houston vs Tina Turner - different genres but who rates as the best?
@FekLeyrTarg I was listing some BLACK female artists who were dominant in the 60-90s. Laura Branigan was awesome (I love the song Self Control) but she was white!
the dutch said "These were the times for me, every weekend we went from our roof both in store and on streets. We were one of the first street dancers in this country.
Donna Summer screwed herself and Career by telling the world she disliked Gay men. Wow! . before making her hate speech she had forgotten something.. Thou shalt not judge.... as a gay man I have no hate for her, just wonder why she hates me.. oh and before I forget isn't it written somewhere thou shalt not hate... Ya Donna Summer she let all us Gay boys know.. she hated us.. Hatred is a horrible emotion and liked to the devil for it breeds evil actions
@wild1heart my my you are a sanctimonious little prick, where have you been for the last few years, with your head up your own arse no doubt, before you point that self righteous holy little finger of yours please check your facts.it was proved beyond any doubt,as if there was any, that Donna did not say anything at all about us gay men,who the fuck do you think you are you stuck up preaching little gobshite, now fuck of and spread your evil somewhere else,go get a life.Donna forgives you you arse
@queendiva231 Hey punk, no need for that kind of language !! You can disagree with someone but to shoot off your filthy mouth is disgraceful. Say what you need to say and make your point in a civil manner. Facts and opinions need to be sorted out. You also need to ask for forgiveness.
@wild1heart You're sick!!! Where the hell have you been?!!!! IT WAS A RUMOR you idiot!!!!! So funny how you still believe this shit that was allegedly said 28 years ago. Get a life douch bag. BTW we saw Donna in November to a sold out crowd & she was awesome.
Billboard's 92nd hit of 89. Produced by Stock/Aitken/Waterman. Written by them, along with Donna. She hit #2 AC, #7 pop, in the US. (What? Not soul? LOL!). How'd she do in the UK? God bless ya, Miss Donna!
@DaveWollenberg Hey Dave - this single peaked at Number Three in UK April 1989. She scored an additional top ten there from this album with "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt" in June. Thanks for your chart data too!
I also think this was not only her best single but her best album. I could listen to it forever and not tire of it's energy. I used to work out to this album, it was very high energy.
Talk about a Feel Good Song! This was so HUGE in the gay clubs...........people would scream and run for the dance floor! They don't do that anymore. Sad.
Love love love this song! So upbeat, and there's just no way you can listen to this and keep your feet still. Got to move. When I get on youtube for a while, this is always the song I end the night with. Good night!
why does everyone who up-loads a song , cut off the last few seconds of the song, ? is it so hard to let the song play out to the end fade AND THEN hit your stop button !
We got her back: Right now she's in Zurich where she's performing at the Art on Ice. BTW, she had another number one dance hit in the US (To Paris with love).
We got her back: Right now she's performing in Zurich at the Art on Ice shows, she just had another number one dance hit in the US (To Paris with love).
Dit waren de tijden voor mij, ieder weekend gingen we uit ons dak zowel in de disco als op straat. Wij waren 1 van de eerste streetdancers in dit land.
@MrAgoyvar 80s were such extraordinary years for all kinds of music. You said you were such a very good streetdancer, well, despite I was a child, I remember, as it was yesterday, that my mother was an aerobics teacher when aerobics were the in-voggue exercise and work-out. Now those days are gone, and at this moment there's hip-hop, silly pop, depressive rock and non-sense dance music. I don't know what''s gonna happen with music in a short period of time, I'm so, so, so scared!!!!
@RobbieMexico1981 - they were the best years for music 1960-1985, mainly crap after that. This music brings back so many memories of my youth and girlfriends that it hurts a bit
@MrAgoyvar the dutch said "These were the times for me, every weekend we went from our roof both in store and on streets. We were one of the first street dancers in this country.

Even though she's successful people have never given her enough credit as a vocalist

This is tops...this is her best music. She has the voice of an angel, and talent to top even that. MLF

Donna Summer has a new single coming out this August, 2010. It's called, "To Paris With Love". There's going to be some great mixes too!

Goofy, nonsensical video, but among the greatest of a great artist's career.

I absolutely LOVED this song when it came out in the late 80's.
I was working in town, aged about 17, 18 or 19.
When I used to go out clubbing it, they always played this
song and my friend and I used to dance our feet off.
HAPPY TIMES OF BEING YOUNG, FREE AND SINGLE!
