  • this is stupid because all you have to do is put rotten food in a 2 liter bottle with a balloon on the lid and wait a month or so

  • Is this the result of fracking?

  • @wtf0804: "Is this the result of fracking?”

Not at all. It's the result of what used to be frozen soil thawing out. Thousands of year’s worth of buried plant matter that never decomposed because it was frozen is now rotting. That rotting releases Methane which rises through the water clogged soil out into the air.

In this case it builds up underneath the frozen surface of the lake with nowhere to escape. So it builds up pressure until somebody pokes a hole and sets it on fire.

  • good video .... I shall use it in my Climate Change class next semster .... Thanks!

  • Solution - Drain all of the lakes.

  • @Dstrukt2k2 That would release all of the methane!!!!!! DON"T DO THAT!!

  • No more eyebrows for you.

  • Standing on a lake and piercing the surface with a crow bar? What could go wrong!

  • Comment removed

  • methane = farts

  • She still has her eyebrows. She must be doing it wrong.

  • WADDUP REDDIT WE SCIENCE NOW LOL XF RODL FRG

  • The wadsworth constant is incredible on this video!

  • @lotsoffun Also, doesn't work for this video. More like Wadsworth squared.

  • Our planet is soooooooooooo amazing!

  • The guy below me is gay...

  • not sure if trolls or just retards -_-

  • Wadsworth constant times two applies.

  • Not as much methane as comes out of Sarah Palin's cakehole

  • YEAH! Lets set fires on a frozen lake! What could go wrong!?

  • @tripwire11aA1 Are you suggesting the frozen lake could explode? You're retarded.

  • @ThwartedVillainy No, I'm guessing he thinks that all the ice will suddenly melt and that they will sink and die. Which is equally retarded to the lake exploding. So either way you look at it, this guy is a retard

  • There has got to be a better way to light a methane bubble than with a match

  • ...Is...Is that bad?

  • @wadad17 yes.

  • STFU AND SHOW ME THE FIRE

  • cows fart methane too.

  • 1:16 to see shit get lit on fire.

  • I'm just here to see shit on fire

  • great reportage can we have some more please we need more awareness

  • SO about those 1000m wide methane bubbles in the arctic........ are we fucked?

  • in sort what she's saying is... were all fucked.

  • This is terrifying. It's the worst case scenario of Climate Change.

  • kewl

  • This is beyond the mental capacity of deniers to comprehend, since they do not care about the consequences of actions, but harvesting this methane does not solve the GHG problem. The methane is burned and then CO2 is released instead. Methane may be more potent GHG per molecule, but it remains in the atmosphere must shorter length of time than CO2.

The only solution: stop living in cold areas and reduce human overpopulation, solar and wind power.

  • Lol you peeps are crazy, but fun

  • So we the surface frozen, the trapped gas can be pumped to tanks. City and farm land fields can use this in long winter to get some gases for fuel.

  • Thanks. We now know the Sun can do all these tricks even in icy conditions.

  • Lighting mother natures farts.

  • That was an impressive warning for us global warmers

  • I wonder if there is a way to harvest this Methane.

  • this is how cave man found fire

  • She's hot

  • If it were cold enough, could methane hydrates form?

  • i disliked it just for the heck of it

  • 27 metres thick... thats what she said.

  • @JammedGuy12 lol 20 cm, dude

  • "Town spirit has been down ever since the lake caught on fire." Lisa Simpson

  • I wonder if they have calculated how much methane is released per acre of some different lakes. Then research if it would be feasible to cover the better producing lakes with some sort of bladder or tent to recover the methane and use it to heat the settlements that are nearby. It would save twofold by using something that is already released to harm the atmosphere, and it would reduce the amount of oil, coal, or nat gas used. Just a thought to ponder.

  • how to hunt for methane

1)go to a cow patty feild.

    2)light a match.

    3)????????

    4)profit.

  • @helpas345 quite a few farmers DO trap the methane and use it to heat the barns and the rest of their farms.

  • Couple of fuckwits arguing in the comments as always. Welcome to the internet, home of the lowest common denominator of intelligence.

  • @MazeleyFanClub Last line is my new favorite quote.

  • @MazeleyFanClub That's X-box live you're thinking of.

  • @MazeleyFanClub

Douchebag faggot doesn't even read the comments, just makes a generalized "I hate people that sound smarter than me" comment to appeal to the fucktard masses of idiotic readers spend half their day upthumbing comments about Justin Bieber.

  • There are some other significant methane sources too.. just write on the YouTube search above: "Mr Methane - Britain's Got Talent - Show 5"

Now that's a big problem... At least in elevators..

  • I can do that with my asshole

  • Gas locked inside Siberia's frozen soil and under its lakes has been seeping out since the end of the last ice age 10,000 years ago. But in the past few decades, as the Earth has warmed, the icy ground has begun thawing more rapidly, accelerating the release of methane – a greenhouse gas 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide – at a perilous rate.

  • @TrickyEmu Dd you get your information from Yahoo? lol yeah, it is nice to be informed. But are we actually doing something about it? Please say no to meat! Consumption of dead rottening corpses is disrespectful to Mother Earth and to the creator, GOD....

  • I love how global warming started with mankind killing the planet to now the planet is killing the planet. Everyone wants a spin to sell.. This process has been on for millions and millions of years now. THIS RIGHT HERE is exactly why the masses (myself included) may have been concerned at one point, but then it gets over bloated with "scientific spin" to where we all realize no one really knows for sure, therefore we stop worrying about it.

  • @texNoz It's called a feedback loop. What we've started is getting worse. You fool.

  • @Paladiea

And prove this is new. They've already proven that this planet has suffered MUCH greater global warming than it's experiencing now in the past.

So you have a natural process taking place and everyone goes "OOOoooooo!!"

Big fucking deal... I don't buy into any of it, and obviously the only governments who do, can see a profit or they wouldn't give a shit either.

  • @texNoz

It's new because this land hasn't melted in many thousands of years, that's why they called it permafrost, because it's permanent.

And yes the planet has changed, but when it changed rapidly (as it's doing now thanks to us) it's catastrophic.

But sit around and do nothing if it makes you feel better, your grandchildren will despise you for it.

  • @Paladiea

    Ummm.... No..

These are frozen lake videos and the methane is produced by anaerobic bacteria at the bottom of the lake decaying organic materials such as dead wood, leaves, grasses, etc.. This has NOTHING to do with permafrost layers.

You are very misinformed and very naive to just follow blindly everything you are told but that's the modern trend. I wish people would think for themselves and stop being sheeple.

  • @texNoz

Also, I highly doubt that you're smarter than 95% of all scientists on earth. In fact I highly doubt you're smarter than even I am.

  • @Paladiea

I'm not saying the scientists are stupid mate. I'm saying they are PAID by governments to be biased. There's HUGE money in proving global warming, there is NONE in disproving it. I have a Masters.. I'm working on another.. I'm 2 years and a thesis away from a Ph.D.

I'm very certain one of us is much smarter than the other. I'll let you decide.

  • @Paladiea

Trees have been falling into lakes since the beginning of time. So "scientist chick" can say whatever she likes. I liken this to the acid rain of the 80's that turned out to be the pine trees own emissions of acids or the hole in the ozone that was supposed to get worse for the next 100 years and it's already reduced in size. Even though their science is totally flawed, the chicken littles all claim they've saved the Earth. Truth is, they've done NOTHING but make money..

  • @texNoz haha you faggot, you suck monkey dick

  • @Paladiea

If you are in fact trying to convince me the sky is falling because you are regurgitating the same spin from the same hypothesis from some "scientist" that spewed it for research grant money. NO.. Even though it's trendy.. forget it..

Environmental researchers are like doctors of medicine who have to convince their patients they are sick or they'll never come back.

It's all bullshit.. all the way and my grandkids can hate me if they wish but hopefully they are smarter than that.

  • @texNoz No what I'm trying to do is show you the proof that's right there in front of your eyes.

Like I said, your children and grandchildren will despise you for it.

By the way, wouldn't the scientists who expose that climate change is a myth get more money?

Your argument falls flat. On multiple fronts. Baaa harder sheep.

  • @Paladiea

What PROOF? You mean the proof that Egypt used to be a tropical oasis 10,000 years ago. What happened to the ice age? Global warming?

If you think governments aren't about to make money on environmental issues, you are drop dead STUPID. $42/kg tax on refrigerant almost over night because they were "ruining the ozone". Environmental taxes for gas power plants that produced "acid rain". NOW we have the Emmission Trading Scheme where you get to pay the government for CO2 emmissions.

  • @texNoz Oh eyeroll. Egypt is still a tropical oasis. It's called the nile river delta.

Also, the ozone was being destroyed, but regulations prevented that. But go ahead and deny. That's what deniers do. Sheep.

  • @Paladiea

Scientist said, according to their very own science, it would carry on for AT LEAST 100 years and it wouldn't climax for 50 years.. Now it's closing back?? WTF??? Doesn't anyone question their original science to begin with as FLAWED? Govnt doesn't care cause they makin MONEY out of it. All they have to do is convince enough SHEEPLE (get the spelling right mate) like you, and it's law. I'm no sheeple mate.. I'm not herded by politics and revenue raisers like you are. You hippy.

  • @texNoz

That's what science is. Constantly changing data. Surely you're not so stupid as to think that all data is available immediately. As new data comes to light, effects must be revised.

Now, please dispute these facts: The global avg temperature trend for the last 30 years is on the rise, the permafrost is melting, and CO2 levels are the highest they've been for several hundred thousand years.

  • @Paladiea

Yes, the average temperature is rising. Not the first time its happened either.

Yes, the CO2 levels are at their highest RECORDED levels. That means NOTHING.. Your science is cum hoc ergo propter hoc and it's just bad science. You find out why the Earth has a global heating/cooling cycle, and discount THAT first, then come see me. If fossil fuels were on trial for murdering the environment, it would walk FREE.. You have to prove the OTHER murderer didn't do it first.

  • @texNoz

Wow some random dude told me these things mean nothing. I guess I should listen DUR HUR.

Your rhetoric is unconvincing as is your idiocy.

  • @Paladiea

No but you'll gladly listen to the subjective science from a group of hippies lighting ice bubbles which in my books makes you an idiot. The whole thing is ridiculous.

  • @texNoz they're called scientists first off. And second, I don't believe these people simply because they say so. There's more evidence to be found if you're willing to look.

  • @texNoz Ugh, you made me facepalm.

  • @texNoz by the way, you're still a sheep. Baaaa!

  • @Paladiea

Oh yeah.. Science.. Good science is NOT the return of unpredicted data. Otherwise its called.... I dunno.. philosophy!! HAHAHA

I reiterate!! Bashing holes in ice and lighting fires means NOTHING.. It's like lighting a fart... I better shut up or they'll blame eating beans on global warming!!

They're already blaming the cows!! HAHAHA BAAAAAAH!!!!

Here's what most people hear anymore "Blah blaaaah global warming blah fucking blah".. Thank God I'm an air conditioning engineer!!!!

  • @texNoz Did I say unpredicted data? I said collecting data and adjusting for it.

    Good job being unhinged.

    Sheep.

  • @Paladiea

I'll just have to make this my last post to this thread as it's been fun, but I have to move on to other threads of more interest now.. Other threads like..... anything.. anything other than this one.. CYA!!

  • @texNoz

Don't let the door hit your uninformed ass on the way out.

  • @GuidoSalami Maybe it's neither, and it's the result of a natural system out-of-balance. And being "not a big fan of science", or, apparently, of reality, is not serving you well.

Physical Reality is not a Matter of Opinion.

  • @GuidoSalami Obvious troll.

  • @GuidoSalami "like most climate change deniers, im not a big fan of science"

    Obvious troll is obvious.

  • It would be cool if we could some how tap into that natural resource.
