  • Wow! That was the first day of this year, and now it's the last day with only 6 more hours until the new year comes! I wish I could see it in Japan, maybe another year.

  • Hiroko I love you (^_^)

  • Bonne année 2011 de belgique :-)))

  • I was there then too. We stumbled across it after going to Tokyo Tower. A happy accident. Was beautiful!! We arrived quite early but the balloons were still all gone.

  • Wow! How amazing!!

  • wow! there are so many people! happy new year! omedeto ^-^

  • i went to 2010 nye in Zojoji Temple

2011 year look the same 2010

  • happy new year! thank you for sharing this video and all the videos of japan and japanese culture thus far! Wish you all the best!

  • I doubt that is good for the environment, but those balloons were so pretty!!!

  • @foxylover777 I just saw on the temple's website that they use environmentally friendly balloons for this event. The balloons melt in water. :)

  • what is with the ballons???

  • @satou1304 People write down their wishes onto the balloons and let them go after the count down this is the same as lighting paper lanterns.

  • I really like this video specialy the picture.. What camera do you use? Kirei na desune

  • @edtomorrow SONY HDR-XR 500V :)

  • @HIROKOCHANNEL Ahhh, Very nice... Thanks!!!

  • HAahaha!!! Did you see @ThatJapanesGirl there? Probably not huh? LOL!!!

  • @edtomorrow no I didn't. Was she there too? :)

  • @HIROKOCHANNEL Yep, I believe so. She posted a video from there as well... I think it would be a miracle if you did run into her being that there were so many people. Then again while I was in China I discovered later while editing a video of the Forbidden palace, two fellas I had captured on video on the street around an hour prior on the inside of the palace. Now what are the odds of that? I understand the attendance of visitors that day was in the millions. Crazy....

  • Thank you for the video.

  • Good to see place where people celebrate new year with peace and joy.

Not like in France, where people used to be violent, fighting, burning cars...

  • HOORAY! Now let's leave the unpleasantness of 2010 behind us.

  • WOW...japanese new year festival is sooooo great :D

I love the idea with the balloons..... uhhh.... one day I also stand in tokyo and let my ballon fly ^oo^

  • that IS crazy..not sure if i'd do that when i get to japan, hahaa *i mean the whole q-ing*

  • Great stuff! Thanks for sharing. So many people there. What tie was it when you finally left the shrine!?

  • i wonder how the environment copes with 3000 plastic balloons??

    looked fun though

  • あけましておめでとうございます! Thank you for showing us a Japanese New Year. Loved the video! The balloons were beautiful.

  • HaaHaa 3:17 editing effect/audio reminded me of squirrels/risu

  • Happy New Year!! ^-^

  • I had chills when i saw all the balloons go up . It looks very fun, i hope to be able to go to Japan one day and see that.

  • あけておめでとうございまうす!

  • It amazes me how Japanese see Temples as tourist spots. Everybody taking pictures and having fun. You will never see something like this in a Church. Great video!

  • @Fedende not so, really old churches and cathedrals are tourist sights too. Mostly in Europe, but there are a few notable ones in the US too.

  • @Fedende Well there are some Roman Catholic ones here in Europe whre they even sell things like pens and books and stuff. And where you can take all the pictures you wat. But those are the more famous churches like in Canterbury or the Notre Dame

  • @CatchMyBrains @Kat0ntheG0 I know! I've been to Vaticano and took pictures of every corner, but beers? pogo? just before going to pray? And this is common to every temple or shrine here in Japan, not only the famous ones. I guess the perception of religiousness or "holiness" here and there are just different.

  • Happy New Year, Hiroko. Wishing you an awesome 2011.

  • @HIROKOCHANNEL
