Wow! That was the first day of this year, and now it's the last day with only 6 more hours until the new year comes! I wish I could see it in Japan, maybe another year.
I was there then too. We stumbled across it after going to Tokyo Tower. A happy accident. Was beautiful!! We arrived quite early but the balloons were still all gone.
@HIROKOCHANNEL Yep, I believe so. She posted a video from there as well... I think it would be a miracle if you did run into her being that there were so many people. Then again while I was in China I discovered later while editing a video of the Forbidden palace, two fellas I had captured on video on the street around an hour prior on the inside of the palace. Now what are the odds of that? I understand the attendance of visitors that day was in the millions. Crazy....
It amazes me how Japanese see Temples as tourist spots. Everybody taking pictures and having fun. You will never see something like this in a Church. Great video!
@Fedende Well there are some Roman Catholic ones here in Europe whre they even sell things like pens and books and stuff. And where you can take all the pictures you wat. But those are the more famous churches like in Canterbury or the Notre Dame
@CatchMyBrains@Kat0ntheG0 I know! I've been to Vaticano and took pictures of every corner, but beers? pogo? just before going to pray? And this is common to every temple or shrine here in Japan, not only the famous ones. I guess the perception of religiousness or "holiness" here and there are just different.
Great video, Hiroko-san. I really enjoyed that. I have only experienced New Year in Japan twice and would love to experience it again. Thank you so much for sharing this video and have a Happy New Year.

I doubt that is good for the environment, but those balloons were so pretty!!!

@foxylover777 I just saw on the temple's website that they use environmentally friendly balloons for this event. The balloons melt in water. :)

what is with the ballons???
satou1304 1 year ago
@satou1304 People write down their wishes onto the balloons and let them go after the count down this is the same as lighting paper lanterns.

Good to see place where people celebrate new year with peace and joy.
Not like in France, where people used to be violent, fighting, burning cars...

@Fedende not so, really old churches and cathedrals are tourist sights too. Mostly in Europe, but there are a few notable ones in the US too.
