@Bubblewrapbud I don't think it is normally used for anything in pyrotechnics except mabey a colorant. I was just experimenting with it as a possible low cost oxidizer for flash powders. Most sulfates are fairly good for FP. Anhydrous copper sufate is probably about as good as KMnO4, if you look at Antiswattt3's channel you can see some examples of that..
@TheAllimania You should be fine but always take caution and be ready for even the safest explosive compounds or mixtures to go off at any time. If you are always ready then it wont be a big deal if it happens.
I never saw magnesium sulphate as a low temperature oxidizer. I would suspect that with only alluminium (instead of magnalium) it would make just a thermite reaction.
@adriiPortillo Yeah sulfates in general are fairly good oxidizers. I think a thermite reaction is when a more reactive metal strips an oxidizing element from a less reactive metal. If you just mean a realy slow flash powder that burns like thermite then yes you're probably right.
@gapianaconda1996 You can make it by electrolyzing a heated solution of sodium chloride and water for a long time (time depends on current and how much you are making). Otherwise might be able to order some off the internet, but if you are going to do that you should get potassium chlorate (kclo3) instead because it isn't hygroscopic while sodium chlorate is hygroscopic.
well CuSO4 anhydrous and magnesium 1:1 should be better than NaClO3 and magnesium.. :P try 2:3 NaClO3 : Mg
ya nh4no3 sure makes a shitload of smoke .. and its heavy.. really hard to get out of your room when you suddenly find out your whole room is white by ammonia gas.. :P i think about 3 hours and my room is small.. (:
btw how was it you made the NaClO3? you heard about the bleach method for KClO3? :P
Yeah I've heard about the "bleach method" but I made mine by electrolysis of salt water with pencil graphite electrodes. Battery charger was power supply. Then I just filtered the solution and boiled off the water.
so you didnt like need any heat stuff? :D like keeping it at a special temperature.. man try NaClO3 armstrongs mix.. the smallest amount you can man.. and mix it as careful as if it was NI3 :D if you saw the videos.. critical mas is really low.. so you probably dont want it to go bang in your hands (; some guy told me that red phosphorus can be made out of urine?? :S
I did the electrolysis in the cold and unclean shed. Also the power went out a few times while it was going, so I don't think the tempurature realy matters too much.
I just came back inside from trying the armstrong's mix. It worked, a very small amount made a slight pop and a smoke ring. didn't weigh it or anything, just 1 to1 by volume. The red phosphorus had some paper in it, and the chlorate was coarse.
hm.. well take a sharp knife.. and just scrape the stuff off striker pads carefully that you dont cut holes into it.. stop when you can only get such nearly white amounts of powder off..
have you seen copper acetylide compared to silver acetylide? maybe lead azide compared to silver azide :P i believe it has more atom stuff.. idk.. but its sure gonna be good stuff.. just want to find some cheap silver somewhere.. like 10 grams as a string maybe..
wtf? xD dude.. watch in my favorites.. theres some HHO video.. watch it.. its really cool.. using really simple stuff for really sick electrolysis.. just water.. but its pretty neat that video.. sounds cool about that fiber arrow thingy.. why dont you convert the NaCl fuck sry youre already doing it.. lulz ^^ try making KClO4 then! it will take abit longer, you can see when the KClO4 starts to be formed by the electrodes are eaten up alot faster..
That video in you favorites is pretty cool, HHO can give a nice "bang". You can't use electrodes like that in a chlorate cell though because the steel would break down realy fast. You can use steel for the negative electrode though.
I'm guessing the battery he is using could put out as much as 50 amps. At that rate it would only take 4 hours to make 50 grams of KCl into KClO3 according to the calculator page.
hm.. ya but dude.. steel spoons and etc is fucking cheap like shit ^^ damn i gotta get a fucking car battery charger man.... ill use it for HHO if i get chemicals anyways.. electrolysing H2SO4 with copper wires produces copper sulfate really fast ive read.. damn i just LOVE flash man.. especially the anhydrous cuso4 flash.. so fucking good.. got a gas cooker thingy really cheap too.. ^^
i never knew that magnesium sulphate was used in pyrotechnics

is this shock-save? so it wont blow off my hands mixing it?

@TheAllimania i would be careful with chlorate blends, there ususally very powerful, and very sensitive to friction, touch, and sulphur

the best was 1:00 . Which chemicals did you burn??? Please tell me.

@staboymalibu94 That was the NaClO3 with magnalium.

@Mr71seventyone1 The only words I can find on it are "made in China." If you want one try looking at Harbor Freight.

can i use aluminum instead of magnalium for the sodium chlorate flash powder
rgmcall 1 year ago
@rgmcall Yes, just as long as it's fine enough.

No you can't just use NaCl.

I don't know how to get phosphorus from urine.
JaycubL 2 years ago
me neither xP
well try abit with the ratios.. (: try 3:1 2:1 and 1:1
antiswattt3 2 years ago
I'll have to get more phosphorus, I don't even have enough for one weight unit on my lousy scale.

oh btw .. think about AgNO3 + HCl.. AgCl! AgClO4.... gotta be the ultimate stuff... (:

Why would that be better, are less reactive metals better on the oxidizer side like in thermites?

I'm making some KClO3 now and I found that a better anode than a graphite stick is part of the shaft of a carbon fiber arrow.
