To answer your question, yes.I drove the 780 for nearly 6 monthes, especially rush hours, even during non peak hours,my bus was still full seated load. The only time it gets light is usually thru eagle rock, and pasadena, going east bound, west bound its heavy the entire trip to west la,except once you pass wilshire. Its a solid line.
The service is needed and more runs needs to be put onto the local route. The businesses need to advertise public transit by saying that their business is served by MTA route #---. In this case, businesses that get served by MTA bus roue 780 should say, our business is served by MTA route 780. Sometimes, the CEOs of the businesses need to shut up and let the webmasters of the businesses along the route post the bus into on their websites.
it's needed. During rush hour and midday, the 180/181 is way too slow. Also, it spreads out the load preventing overcrowding. The 180 and 780 should arrive at Vermont and Hollywood and the same time headed east, and they should arrive at Broadway and Brand at the same time headed west.
Well the good thing about transit in Los Angeles is that there are many agencies to choose from. For example, in East LA people can ride MTA, LADOT/DASH, El Sol Shuttle, and Foothill Transit(north East LA, El Sereno, City Terrace, CSULA via 10 FWY Busway). Competition is good in some ways.
In Vancouver Canada, sometimes there are two buses on the same route right behind each other. the first bus is full, while the second bus has only a few people. Too many buses but not many people.
well i use it almost every day i live off Fairfax and its rarely empty usually the ones that run later dont have alot of folk on them, i kinda need it to get to school and work,
I happen to disagree, I think the 780 is a neccesity especially with the rising gas prices. I've ridden the local line 217 on Fairfax many times and happen to think that it is way too slow in comparison. I know it doesn't look that way now, but the 780 can be and is very beneficial, especially since it goes through many different areas
I'm doing this because MTA is going to increase the bus fair and canceling some lines which they THINK they don't need. But look at Line 780, they should cut 780 first before they cut local bus lines.
One more thing, singwith. Of course they'll cut Local service, and what are disabled/old ppl doing in rush hour anyways? God forbid the Rapid would stop at Colorado n' De Lacey Ave. 780 was created for quicker service, plus the fact that ppl dont have to switch 3 or 4 buses to get from Pasadena to the Farmers Market, or Wilshire Blvd. Think of the Rapid as the old Pacific Electric Railway we had in L.A.--only on rubber tires...
I talked to a guy who's waiting for 181 and he is like 80 years old man who missed LARy. 50 years ago, he was riding on a street car (line 5?) from downtown L.A to eaglerock/colorado/townsend and what he was saying was street car had better service than buses. Thanks for your thoughts.
Look at this this way, singwith. Were you at the second to last stop or something? Line 780 is busy in the Fairfax/Miracle Mile District n' Hollywood, Los Feliz, Glendale. People need that Metro Rapid link from Mid-City to Pasadena. Metro wants more ridership, so what do they do? They make it so you can get to your destination faster!!
I'm talking about between Pasadena and Glendale. saw empty buses everyday specially after 6PM. They could run 380 instead of 780. I think Line 380 is more usefull.
MTA never can seem to squash that four-transfer requirement to get to and from anywhere important lol. ihateyoumetrorail dot com has an excellent page called Will Johnny ever love Metro Rail? It's an excellent way of showing how ineffective MTA is compared to cities a fraction of LA's size.

we just need 380 instead of 780. IMHO

if they extended the 780 to sierra madre villa, it probably wouldnt be empty.

same with the 754. 5 754's in less than 5 minutes. We had 15 people standing for the 204, yet it never came. How sad...

thunder4555 1 year ago
@thunder4555 Well online at the MTA website they're selling bags of 10 for $15. Other than that I'm not sure as I use passes more often than tokens

the Tehachapi Detours? why? Is this related to UP derailment near Palm Springs? It was really bad...

50+ years ago, LA had an extensive rail system that would put San Francisco to shame today. Sad how impotent and ineffective MTA is today.

Yea, you could go to San Bernardino or Newport Beach from L.A by trolly if PE is still exist.

I think that's what MTA exactly want from US. I mean, if you want to go to beach, pay $5 or don't go.
