  • I'm an American and we have a product here called Ball Jars that look and function the same as Kilner jars. This was a fascinating program and Clarkson is quite a character and I enjoyed watching him in a non-car situation.

  • As far s I'm concerned Clarkson made a complete arsehole of himself.

  • @truekiwijoker how come?

  • @iamatumor After visiting his mother he makes a joke about her being incontinent. When he discovers the scale of the Killner jars he immediately starts talking about how much it's worth and starts saying that this nice man has his money and birthright.

How has he NOT shown himself up as the nasty piece of work he clearly is?

  • @truekiwijoker Yeah youre right. clarkson is a loudmouth allright.

  • @truekiwijoker You REALLY don't understand his style of humour. Do you honestly think his mother would take that joke seriously? That's her son, I think she knows him a little better than you do, like that he sometimes makes jokes at the expense of others. As far as I'm concerned, you've made a complete arsehole of yourself judging Mr. Clarkson entirely on a youtube video.

  • @Crowbarboy Of course I understand his style of humour, and is mother would be a bit of a doormat to not be at least disappointed in such a crass and uncalled for comment. His stock and trade is humour at the expense of others.

He is a proven arsehole, and not just for that joke. And BTW that doesn't mean I don't find him funny. From what it sounds like you're some silly fanboy so I'll pay your assessment of me suitable credence.

  • ehh i like it better when he talks about cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CARS FTW

  • It's a girl his daughter Kate's younger so grown?

  • I bet Jezza bought a bit of the Kilner company back, just for the sake of it.

Secondly, why does rich people (no, he isn't poor, heritage or not) always furniture their homes in the same booring way?

  • The jar is made in Indonesia, not China.

  • this series is sooo addictive!

  • The theme for the show is great! Is it anywhere to find and buy / download?

  • why is he so focused on the Kilners? In my country you only focus on paternal lines....this guy would not even be mentioned in any inheritance to speak of...unless the English passed their inheritance to their daughters only? That sounds like a weird society to me...sorry I haven't watched the other parts...

  • @Microglia1 in england aswell as many other countries the inheiritance is split in any way written in the will regardless of male or female. Englands titles such as an earl or a lord are still typicly given to the first son though as was traditional.

  • They all had the famous jeremy clarkson jaw. :P

  • 3:30 - whoa ... it can't be unseen.

  • His life.. and his ancestors, vs the green piece like FOREVER. =.= Jeremy, u may clam your money from green piece XD

  • Britain was the most powerful industrial force world had ever seen...and then that glory......vanished.

Really sad if you think about it.

  • @Letinsh19 all make in China now :)

  • @gav240z All the crappy things are made in China

  • @Letinsh19 blame the unions for that

  • Thank you for this, very interesting.

  • I don't think i want to know about my ancestors, the ones i know are bad enough. haha

  • Thanks from this Yank.

  • i think Jeremy Clarkson is a brilliant presenter but to see him not talk about cars and get an insight into his world was amazing thank you for uploading this video

  • @jacksmooth99 i always knew he was so much more than what i saw on top gear, this gave me great pleasure watching too :)

  • The resemblance between George Kilner and Jeremy Clarkson is amazing.

  • this makes me want to find out about my ancestors

  • why he bacame a Clarkson ?

  • brilliant absolutely amazing

  • I want them to investigate me.

  • The Kilner Jar reminds me a lot of the Mason Jars here in the US, as my mother used them quite a bit to can fruit and vegetables.

  • @JKNancy09 now i want to look up my history cause my last name is mason

  • LOL 3:31

  • You can see That Clarkson Gets the 'Lantern Jaws' from George Kilner

  • In America, this is known as the Mason Jar!! They were "invented", and patented by John Landis Mason, a Philadelphia tinsmith in 1858. Did John Landis Mason steal from the Kilner family??? (Kilner had that jar in 1848).

The last Kilner member who had control of the company gave it all away in 1937.

I'm sure many in Britian think Jeremy Clarkson is some right wing moron that would match Rush Limbaugh in the states. Clarkson is far more intelligent, and sensitive.

  • @strangeones4 I was moved by this show.

  • @strangeones4 No, the Mason and Kilner jars are slightly different in terms of tops...and I agree about Clarkson, he is also more charming than Limbaugh in my opinion.

  • Fascism inating

  • Fascinating.

  • 3:29 - cant fight your genes :)

  • Very interesting. Regarding the investment in soon to be obsolete equipment, this is a common pattern as technology advances. Nobody can predict the next big thing, people place their bets and sometimes lose, to be leapfrogged by others, luckier or smarter.

As Jeremy says, explains his distrust of environmentalists. Could also explain his bossy attitude ;-)

  • indonesia, represent :D

  • Just like America, dieing mega manufacuing being sent overseas, all jobs lost, a dieing country!

    Bobbie

  • adrian chiles is a stupid cunt

  • 3.26 actually looks a bit like Jeremy aswel

  • 3:30 :D

  • "as soon as i saw his photo i knew hed mock it up" looool

  • Just think, in 100 years we'll be looking back on the personal computer like they're looking back on bottle making.

I'm not suggesting that the computer will become unimportant, as it will become only increasingly important. I'm saying that its current form will be obsolete within 100 years.

  • @Flamesync with the flow of technology, it will probably be obsolete in 10 years and completely unimaginably unrecognizable in 100

  • @Flamesync What was advanced to them back then is obsolete now. Whats advanced to us now will be obsolete in the future.

  • my red button didnt work :(

  • sorry jeremy sad story

  • This was a very interesting peice of history and thank you so much for posting this.

  • im indonesian, WOO HOOOOO MY ANCESTORS MADE SOME GLASS JAR THAT DOESNT MATTER

  • @turkeysandvich hooray! you managed to watch all 6 parts and still miss the whole point of the show!

  • @turkeysandvich Woo hooo just another piece of scum to form another larger piece of scum some 1.2 Billion+

  • Made in Indonesia Yes thats a disaster for British industry

  • seriously jeremy looked like georgie.

  • how many fucking houses?????????????

  • There's a Kilner Way in Sheffield, presumably named after the Kilners. It's a dead-end with Comet and Halfords on it, not much of a tribute!

  • Thanks for the uploads i`m off to check out my family tree, Irish nobility me thinks

  • "You-u-u haave the thingy trade mark" ," I have yes and what are you going to do about it Jezzer you big fat bloater?"

  • I'm in America and had never heard of the Kilner jar. I know it as a Mason jar. Mason was the guy who invented the screw top in 1858 that allowed Kilner to make his jar.

  • @jenisedai ofcourse trying to steal the honor of the UK

  • @CobraProductionsTV ? seriously? The inventions worked together, one couldn't exist without the other. Although now Mason jars (and Ball jars, the other label) use Kilner's rubber seal and two part top. Still, I don't get why Jeremy thinks we use the name Kilner jars. We don't use "French Kilner jars" for the other type either.

  • @jenisedai I'm in American and I have heard of the Kilner jar.

That said, I grew up in Yorkshire and have only been here a couple of years!!!

  • @PaulMJohnson And you have already started to dumb down.

  • thank you LegoPenis for this touching video

  • wow, this is a really good show!

  • the photograph of jeremy at 3:32 is epic!

  • it is a bit surprising there was no mention of jeremy's mum creating the paddington bear (something she made, initially, for him and his sister), which became a british institution of sorts. it was still a fascinating watch all the same. cheers for uploading!

  • In Australia the "Kilner Jar" was a household staple sold as the Fowlers "Vacola" jar.

Hard to find these days but I recall my mother "putting up" fruit in my childhood.

  • 3:37 made me laugh ... hard... :D

  • George kinda looks like Jeremy lol a bit dopy , fantastic upload tho...really enjoyed it

  • Thank you for uploading this. This is clearer that the one of Ian Hislop which is the epsiode after this one on another channel.

  • thanks for uploading, didnt know the kilner jar was made by my country

i thought the kilner jar was originally from the dutch during their 300 years of occupation of my country

    very enlighting indeed

  • @bebekmahal So within the space of one hour, I found out that 1. the jars are known as Kilner jars, 2. Kilners are related to Jeremy Clarkson, and 3. It's now manufactured in Indonesia.

  • Interesting, now made in Indonesia :)

  • Thank you for uploading the movie, it was a nice experience watching it, makes us think a bit more about our "travel" here.

  • 3:30. He has a "fro"

  • Seriously, the most boring dining room ever.

  • LOL soooo true xD

  • @Bolabolai I think his wife made it that way..

  • Thanks!!!

  • very good

  • I love this series - thanks so much for sharing this program - we don't get this is in the US-I love Jeremy -so honest.

  • Thank you for uploading this. It was very interesting.
