if it does not turn on it means thats something is not correctly plugled i might be the usbport in the front or back check and if the black thingy isnt on one of them then you move the yellow cablesin the usb portsto make them not to touch anything and i will turn on 90% of the time it works
My Xbox doesn't get red light but it over heats. The reason I know that is because I can play for around 30 minutes that the screen starts changing colors.. The fans turn on hard. I can keep playing like that but if i turn it off then on again all four lights will turn on and i can here the audio but it wont show. If i overheat it a couple of minutes ill work again -_- Anyone know if this would work for me ? Or is there a different solution ?
okay, so i did everything that you did, but when i turned it on i got 4 red lights... i left it on for about 5 minutes with the fan blocked, turned it back on, and they are all still there... what did i do wrong, or do i need to do...?
My xbox kept on getting 2 rrod now. I fixed the rrod like two years ago so I decided to reappply the thermal paste. At first I was getting 2 red lights, then I decided to tighten the heatsink and now I get three red lights and it wont over heat what do?
@nola2111 I can help unplug ur power brick and wait 5 hours works good as new but do not put anything infront of the ventilation I suggest doing this at night
hey, i have been watching thiss a couple of times, will this fix the 3 red rings of death???? I have taken it apart and noticed all the Thermal Paste is all dried up and isnt on the 2 square components
biggrip and firestormerc the reason why the fans wont come on is because one oof the parts that turn s the fan may be shot and prevents one of the fans not to turn well wich where both wont go
Hey i did this fix but just when i turn on the xbox it shows 2 red lights and its NOT overheated i tried tighten the screws more but to no avail please help me!
now it turns on with a fuzzy screen with sound, fan starts running louder and louder then 2 red lights. its only a matter of seconds as well. please help.
So ive finished the over heating part and let it cool down for awhile. now, once i turn it on i get the 360 intro but then shoots to 2 red lights. I understand that means it has been overheated but it continues to do this. any suggestions would be much appreciated.

@biggrip1967 I never seem to figure out what is causing this to happen I have one that does the same thing no fans come on....I might try a Reflow to see if that Repairs it.
@firestormerc You don't need to wait until the 2 red lights come on. In fact, I have read this is unwanted as it means you are actually overheating the GPU and is unnecessary. I let mine overheat by blocking the GPU outtake as shown in your video (maybe 15 min or so) and turned it off before the 2 red lights. Let it cool down just to be nice to the GPU and it worked again.
After trying this method mine went from 3 red rings to 2 and the fan would cut off. I figured out that this is because there is too much space between the chips and the heat sinks. I solved this problem by taking out the metal washer between the motherboard and heat sink leaving only the nylon washer which brought the heat sinks closer to the cpu and gpu and fixed my problem. The metal washers are not completely eccesary anyways..My Xbox works great now!
The time has come for Free energy to be revealed ,But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Be part of the revolution!
WTF! My xbox has an extra heatsink coming out of the one you were overheating, also why the hell would you only need to heat one side, after following your whole tutorial when i get to the point of plugging it in; I INSTANTLY within about 0.25 seconds got 2 RED LIGHTS not 3. before i had 3 now 2 wtf.
@legendofsource Check to make sure you have covered the chips with thermal compound Artic Silver 5 from RadioShack or there are 2 other brands that are the same as it!!! Tighten the screws down a little more not too much and if the 2 red lights come back do the code and find out which one is overheating!! Sync+ Eject 4x to get your code!!

hey thanks for the vid. I did the fix, there's no more red ring. But now its says no signal on the tv. What can i do please, why is there no signal after doing the fix?
p.s it has always worked and i have the right input selected, and the lights are green. Please help, why is it doing this
I did everything that you did but I have no video or sound. The 3 red lights are still flashing. What does that mean? What a nightmare! Please email me when you get a chance dude.
Put tape over the heads of the screws to hold them on. Also, if you do this repair and it still red rings adjust the tension on the screws and power it back on. Ive done a few of these and when it doesnt work the first time it always seems to be the screws. I also use Loctite on the threads to make sure they dont come loose. Just a tiny drop using a tooth pick will do.
as soon as i turn it on, the fans start going faster and faster until they just stop going, which doesnt allow me to overheat anything. and it even shows 2 red rings
i just did all the steps in this video and plugged it in got the 3 red lights then got 2 red lights on the left side very quickly after i turned it on and they are flashing what did i do wrong?
I think know he learned this from YouTube, This fix will last about three weeks, 95% of the time. If you allow your box to go to 2 red lights you risk killing the box! If you did your job right it will take 4 to 5 minutes to heat up enough to reset its self without hitting too 2 red lights any sooner and your heat sink is not making good contact. If you want to know why your fix is not lasting I will explain that in my next Video. For now watch my video response about the lights
Ive done this repair on several machines and they are all still working. 1 is working fine more than a year later. The key to making this last is to not let it over heat again. Cut a hole in the top and slap a fan on it if you have to. Who gives a shit how it looks if it works. ;)
Why you dont protect the Ram on the backsite the motherboard this can make the RROD too because there is it very hot and the fans doenst cool this (I mean the 4 black things unter the gpu^^ or so ) BAD ENGLISH :D
i have a problem, (just to note i havnt changed the thermal compound or even taken off the old one) i took everything apart cleaned it up and put it together only now instead of rrod i get 3 red lights which turns to 2 red lights which turns to one red light, and also i get no display does anyone no what my problem is?
Note: sometimes it only goes 2 lights to one light, all cables are plugged in
@GinjaNinja1990 I would try again, replace the thermal compound with new thermal compound, the processors can sense this. After constructing everything back together, let it run for a couple minutes, turn it off, and let it sit for a while. Replacing the paste for both the GPU and the CPU should be good enough for it to run smoothly.
just replaced the thermal compound on cpu and gpu and gave the heat sinks a arctic wash, used xclamp mod aswell to keep heatsinks positioned.
problems, when i turn it on lying down, bottom two lights flash. turned on standing up i get red ring of death. also in both position the fan doesnt even turn on and disk tray wont open.
I have the rod. Do i have to dry the xbox with a hotairdryer ( i dont know how its calle, you know what i mean) before I put the Arctiv Silver 5 Cream on gpu and cpu?
why did you say to get 16 of each kind of washer? i only saw you use 8 of each. do you put a nylon and metal washer on the screw before you put it in the mother board and then two more on the other side?
i fixed my red ring of death. but when i turn my on, it goes to the dashboard then a green screen comes up and i cant do anything. please help me. i wanna play mw2 already !!!!!
hey i was trying to get the xclamps off the back of the motherboard and i scraped off like a peace of the motherboard . i want to make sure my shit isn't gonna blow up can you help?
Thanks man, I just fixed 2 rrod's! I had them go to the 2 red lights and had to remove the washers between the mb and heatsinks because there was too much space for the heatsink to contact the cpu and gpu. After that, 1 had to be "baked" and the other worked right away. Fixed for about 10 bucks each!
some 1 help i got mine all back 2gether and it turns on but then after just a few seconds of it working (its goes 2 the dash bored) but then it gets 2 red lights help
Hey, i did this yesterday and the same thing happened to me, it would turn on and then the fan would kick on way too high..and id get 2 red lights
so i went and got 8 metal and 8 nylon washers and replaced them all (i only used 6 wasers and screws the first time).
the other thing i did was went back and completely cleaned the CPU and GPU again until they shined. i reassembled and there was no more problem. also make sure you put the heat sync's back on, facing the proper direction. Great video!
i did everthing but when i turn it out it becomes really loud then 5 seconds later 2 red lights start blinking. I don't think it can over heat after turning it on for 5 seconds
it worked it really really worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yessss I fixed my 360 thanx to you man you're great thanx sooooooooooooooooooooooo much I followed it step by step by step and it actually worked I'm back on xbox live yaaaaaayyyyyyyyy I'm so fricking happy!!!!!!!!!!
well on the bottem u put the flat wash on first then the nylon then after putting it on the mother bored u do wat he sayed and put on the nylon then the flat 1
hey man , you know the part where you put in the heat sinks back on......well my heat sinks go directly into the screws no into the screw holders coming out of yours......well imy question is....do i still use the same size screws? and washers
ok well i already tried it with the foil off and it worked but then i forgot to put the gaurd i soo i took it apart again and now it wont eventurn on!! but anyways i give up on this. at least i learned something. i think.
that didn't work...i think it might be fried cuz i've done everything i can do short of sending it to microsoft (which by now is way out of the question lol)...when I turn it on, i get the three rings for a couple of seconds, the fan starts to speed up (which I assume means the xbox is heating up), then everything suddenly shuts off except for the two rings (instead of three)...PLEEEEEASE tell me there's still hope for my 360!
Yeah...when I first turn it on they run at a normal speed, then a couple seconds later they speed up (that's when it goes from 3 rings to 2), and finally the whole console, including the fans, shuts down (but the rings keep blinking)
dude that happened to me... then i fixed it.. hmm dude whenver it gets to 3 just turon off the 360. let it cool down for a couple of mintues. butremeber dont let it go to 2 rings !
You put the Artic Silver 5 on the cpu and gpu, then you put aluminum foil 3 layers pushed together on top of the Artic Silver 5. No you don't take anything off
Good tut, I know you have had a lot of questions about the aluminum, but on the gpu chip, does it cover both the large and small one or just the larger of the two?
Dear firestormerc, i noticed that you removed the four sponge like strips from above and beside one of the x clamps. May i know why that is necessary and do you have to put them back on later on or replace it with something else or just let it go naked like that? By the way, do you need any drilling to make the new screws and washers fit? finally, is alcohol all i need to remove the old thermal compound from the cpu and gpu?
5-7 mins yes put the fans in back like you took them out and just block the side to the gpu so air can't get to the gpu, thats the heatsink under the dvdrom
nvm i cleaned the heat sinks and it started up fine just like it did in your video here. If it does mess up i will reopen it and i guess apply some more silver on the heat sink IF something happens
Well mine was freezing (not rrod) and I did this fix. It works without freezing for the most part, but i have to have the intercooler ts on it or it will freeze. Also when I play a game for more than 90 minutes or so (even with the intercooler on) it freezes up and I have to wait a while to play again. Since it didn't red ring, i for some reason didnt overheat the gpu should i go back and do this?
Yes side under the dvdrom and listen don't use that intercooler it doesn't help it will just ruin your xbox 360. Don't know where you read about the intercooler but its not worth having on the back of your Xbox 360, the xbox 360 can run better and longer without a piece of junk fan you put behind the console
Its the inter cooler ts it does not run off of 360 power it plugs into the wall. just adds 3 extra fans. I have one and if i leave it off of the xbox, the xbox freezes.
No its like the old models from nyko but it clips over the fan vent holes. The only thing is instead of having the pass through plug(where you connect power cord to the intercooler and plug the intercooler into the 360), it draws power from an outlet
If you are fixing the rrod make sure you don't put it back together until it is fully fixed chances are if you didn't do something right could cause you to get the rrod again or overheat really fast so in that case you have to go back and check something or put more Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound on
if it does not turn on it means thats something is not correctly plugled i might be the usbport in the front or back check and if the black thingy isnt on one of them then you move the yellow cablesin the usb portsto make them not to touch anything and i will turn on 90% of the time it works

VexylMusic 2 years ago
just replaced the thermal compound on cpu and gpu and gave the heat sinks a arctic wash, used xclamp mod aswell to keep heatsinks positioned.
problems, when i turn it on lying down, bottom two lights flash. turned on standing up i get red ring of death. also in both position the fan doesnt even turn on and disk tray wont open.

Ive only gotten the no video problem, not the red rings. Do I still need to do the X clamp thing or only the thermal paste replacement?
frankzero01 2 years ago
why did you say to get 16 of each kind of washer? i only saw you use 8 of each. do you put a nylon and metal washer on the screw before you put it in the mother board and then two more on the other side?
thanks

i fixed my red ring of death. but when i turn my on, it goes to the dashboard then a green screen comes up and i cant do anything. please help me. i wanna play mw2 already !!!!!

hey i was trying to get the xclamps off the back of the motherboard and i scraped off like a peace of the motherboard . i want to make sure my shit isn't gonna blow up can you help?
KiXandCHiX 2 years ago
why do u need 16 nylon washers and 16 metal washers
u only used 8 of each??
feedback822 2 years ago
hey does the cpu come out of the unit i want to know cause if it can i will use the cpu for a computer with my own motherboard
truesivad 2 years ago
Thanks man, I just fixed 2 rrod's! I had them go to the 2 red lights and had to remove the washers between the mb and heatsinks because there was too much space for the heatsink to contact the cpu and gpu. After that, 1 had to be "baked" and the other worked right away. Fixed for about 10 bucks each!

hi um how do u stablize the gpu
please tell

some 1 help i got mine all back 2gether and it turns on but then after just a few seconds of it working (its goes 2 the dash bored) but then it gets 2 red lights help
layzboat666 2 years ago
Hey, i did this yesterday and the same thing happened to me, it would turn on and then the fan would kick on way too high..and id get 2 red lights
so i went and got 8 metal and 8 nylon washers and replaced them all (i only used 6 wasers and screws the first time).
the other thing i did was went back and completely cleaned the CPU and GPU again until they shined. i reassembled and there was no more problem. also make sure you put the heat sync's back on, facing the proper direction. Great video!
nickxxbigatel 2 years ago
same here. i turn it on and the two red lights come on right away.
TheYearBefore 2 years ago
i did everthing but when i turn it out it becomes really loud then 5 seconds later 2 red lights start blinking. I don't think it can over heat after turning it on for 5 seconds

i fukn love you man !!!!! thnks a lot i finally fixed it and everything works great!!!!!!
is this permanent??
arenivar619 2 years ago
It should be if you did things right, as the ones i have fixed are still running good
firestormerc 2 years ago
hey man , you know the part where you put in the heat sinks back on......well my heat sinks go directly into the screws no into the screw holders coming out of yours......well imy question is....do i still use the same size screws? and washers
arenivar619 2 years ago
Yes, the sizes for anything you need is in the description
firestormerc 2 years ago
ok well i already tried it with the foil off and it worked but then i forgot to put the gaurd i soo i took it apart again and now it wont eventurn on!! but anyways i give up on this. at least i learned something. i think.
yoilikhalo 2 years ago
You might have fried it, what are you going to do with it? You could send it to me and see if can get it up and running
firestormerc 2 years ago
should just try to put more artic silver on the cpu and gpu?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
Yes
firestormerc 2 years ago
that didn't work...i think it might be fried cuz i've done everything i can do short of sending it to microsoft (which by now is way out of the question lol)...when I turn it on, i get the three rings for a couple of seconds, the fan starts to speed up (which I assume means the xbox is heating up), then everything suddenly shuts off except for the two rings (instead of three)...PLEEEEEASE tell me there's still hope for my 360!
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
Does the fans run?
firestormerc 2 years ago
Yeah...when I first turn it on they run at a normal speed, then a couple seconds later they speed up (that's when it goes from 3 rings to 2), and finally the whole console, including the fans, shuts down (but the rings keep blinking)
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
dude that happened to me... then i fixed it.. hmm dude whenver it gets to 3 just turon off the 360. let it cool down for a couple of mintues. butremeber dont let it go to 2 rings !
THYTEX 2 years ago
...seriously?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
hey i got the clamps off but before putting the heat stuff on do i take the aluminum foil offf?
yoilikhalo 2 years ago
You put the Artic Silver 5 on the cpu and gpu, then you put aluminum foil 3 layers pushed together on top of the Artic Silver 5. No you don't take anything off
firestormerc 2 years ago
Good tut, I know you have had a lot of questions about the aluminum, but on the gpu chip, does it cover both the large and small one or just the larger of the two?
Swampdog36 2 years ago
speaking of the aluminum...how does that benefit the system?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
The aluminum will hold heat so its not going all around in the console
firestormerc 2 years ago
@firestormerc what is that gray thing you apply and did u apply new screw please help
ezekiel003 1 year ago
Both of them
firestormerc 2 years ago
Dear firestormerc, i noticed that you removed the four sponge like strips from above and beside one of the x clamps. May i know why that is necessary and do you have to put them back on later on or replace it with something else or just let it go naked like that? By the way, do you need any drilling to make the new screws and washers fit? finally, is alcohol all i need to remove the old thermal compound from the cpu and gpu?
leatherbabesinmovies 2 years ago
This console didn't have the 4 sponge strips your talking about, just leave them on there. No drilling needed. Yes, rubbing alcohol is what you need
firestormerc 2 years ago
hey firestormerc, how long should i leave it to overheat? and do i leave the fan on?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
5-7 mins yes put the fans in back like you took them out and just block the side to the gpu so air can't get to the gpu, thats the heatsink under the dvdrom
firestormerc 2 years ago
k that worked then when i put it all together again and tried to turned it on it turns on for a second then shuts off...am i doing something wrong?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
tightening the heatsinks down too much and you need more Artic Silver 5
firestormerc 2 years ago
omg i have to open the damn thing again...
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
Yes, you always run test before you put it back together and each step as your putting it back to make sure it runs so this doesn't happen
firestormerc 2 years ago
k thx
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
Your Welcome
firestormerc 2 years ago
hey now i tried to put it back together again and it has two rings instead of three...what went wrong now?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
o wait but how come it worked before I put the plastic part back on?
dmbenji1156 2 years ago
Not enough artic silver 5 on the cpu and gpu, also put a game in and see how it runs, let it run a while with a game in
firestormerc 2 years ago
btw thanks a lot!
XArmy0F1X 2 years ago
Your Welcome
firestormerc 2 years ago
nvm i cleaned the heat sinks and it started up fine just like it did in your video here. If it does mess up i will reopen it and i guess apply some more silver on the heat sink IF something happens
XArmy0F1X 2 years ago
although i guess you dont put the silver on the heat sink, but you want to clean the heat sink right, or is that not important?
XArmy0F1X 2 years ago
Maybe you have to run it awhile and play a game and see what happens
firestormerc 2 years ago
Well mine was freezing (not rrod) and I did this fix. It works without freezing for the most part, but i have to have the intercooler ts on it or it will freeze. Also when I play a game for more than 90 minutes or so (even with the intercooler on) it freezes up and I have to wait a while to play again. Since it didn't red ring, i for some reason didnt overheat the gpu should i go back and do this?
slym444 2 years ago
Yes side under the dvdrom and listen don't use that intercooler it doesn't help it will just ruin your xbox 360. Don't know where you read about the intercooler but its not worth having on the back of your Xbox 360, the xbox 360 can run better and longer without a piece of junk fan you put behind the console
firestormerc 2 years ago
Its the inter cooler ts it does not run off of 360 power it plugs into the wall. just adds 3 extra fans. I have one and if i leave it off of the xbox, the xbox freezes.
slym444 2 years ago
Oh like a stand intercooler?
firestormerc 2 years ago
No its like the old models from nyko but it clips over the fan vent holes. The only thing is instead of having the pass through plug(where you connect power cord to the intercooler and plug the intercooler into the 360), it draws power from an outlet
slym444 2 years ago
Does it work on e 74 ?
microsguy 2 years ago
It might fix it and you might have to blow dry a certain part of the motherboard to solder somethings back together
firestormerc 2 years ago
If you are fixing the rrod make sure you don't put it back together until it is fully fixed chances are if you didn't do something right could cause you to get the rrod again or overheat really fast so in that case you have to go back and check something or put more Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound on
