I personally don't have a problem with gay people, but I understand that Jamaica is a very religious country and thus social attitudes are very conservative, just as they once were in the UK. I think it's wrong to blame a politician for simply representing the views of his constituents even if you don't agree with those views. The thing that I find stupid is that in the bible it mentions homosexuality a few times but it's not emphasized. I personally don't have a problem with gay people, but I understand that Jamaica is a very religious country and thus social attitudes are very conservative, just as they once were in the UK. I think it's wrong to blame a politician for simply representing the views of his constituents even if you don't agree with those views. It takes generations for cultural attitudes to change and they will change. If you want to blame someone or some thing, blame the church. Poverty is a bigger issue...

@Yondaimeku jamaica has a church every corner you turn. This means that we are a predominantly Christian and also Rasatfarian country (mainly christian). As chrisitans we abide by the principles at Romans 1:25-27 and Levicticus 20:13 note i said principles. @icepincess I spent most of my life in Jamaica and I moved back a year ago to start university. I know what it's like here, I just completely disagree with it. The thing that I find stupid is that in the bible it mentions homosexuality a few times but it's not emphasized. Whereas you have things like stealing, lying, adultery or murder that are made reference to several times and even have commandments about how wrong they are and people care more about the homosexuality. It's ridiculous.

@icepincess Also, people take the bible way too literally. They don't follow everything they see in it. I think we both know that. I remember a verse, and don't quote me on this because im not entirely sure but it said something along the lines of " If your son steals from you or doesn't believe in god you should kill him" It was something along those lines. The point is, it wasn't something severe and I'm sure it's happened before and people ignored it and move on with their lives.

Jamaica makes a lot of money from tourism, It's also part of the UN and seeing as a large amount of the UN have a progressive stance towards homosexuality and it's also those countries who's citizens actually fuel the Jamaican economy this means that they have every right to question where their citizens are going. Furthermore hate crimes on any subsection of society is wrong.
