save shoreditch-fuck off. the trendies, hippy scum ruined the gaff years ago. your mob have made it worse beyond repair. lcoals who have lived there cant afford it cos all the hippies from the home counites got mummy and daddy to buy them houses there. nothing for any1 normal to do there unless there into shit music shit art and overpriced boozers. barely any true cockneys live there nowadays.
So good to see some of our own commenting on here. I completely agree with the comments from the cockneys on here. We were ignored when the asians then the trendies overun the area. There's hardly a cockney lives there now. Fuck them all, both the asians and the trendies. Flatten the gaff and build what the fuck you want on it. There's hardly any East End left anyway.
Well, plenty of inflammatory comments for no good reason.
The "gentrification" of the area is absolutely analogous to Williamsburg, New York. And of course, so many other areas that had benefitted from an artistic community. It seems long gone now - Factual Nonsense and all the crazy happenings - but it is not to say that people able enough to remain shouldn't be able to stay!!
Whatever the prices, KEEP the community - and I'm not saying that with my tongue in my cheek. Though, I'm jealous.
iyou all might have left 2 late to do much about it
shoreditch was marked down as an area of opportunity immediately after it was almost flattened in the blitz, and the local people , remembered what it was like and wished for it to be rebuilt like it was, which was industrial factories for employment, bars, hospitality, theatre
with theatre playing a huge role in shoreditch past success and economy.
unfortunately we are victims of our own success in selling the place when it was almost dead
I totally understand ur frustration with communities on a large scale in areas u feel u have more right 2 id be lieing myself if It didn't get to me sumtimes But dont for one minute blame them! Its the government policy so blame urself & ur m8s 4 allowing ppl in power 2slack on immigration control if u have a problem with that, which a lot do.
Bare in mind how important it is that Londons massive Multicultral place 2 live thats y its amazing thats what gives London a special thing it has :)
I suggest you actually look into the long running history of the area of Shoreditch before you voice opinions on the current community which at the present time are Bangladesh which has turned into a more Asian mix.
As you would know that before them each period of History housed numerous different groups of people throught out.
Victorian times Shoreditch was where very poor families seeked refugee ETC.
build over it its a shithole which use to be a nice white area until the whites were shipped off so asians could spend workers taxes whilst sitting on their arses ponceing off the gov' fuk brick lane and shoreditch n fuck the people who call us racists for voiceing out opinions. btw most of you asians and black ppl are more raciast than most white people..... who are all ur friends??? who do u associate with??? do u have steriotypes of white ppl???
i live in Hoxton sq, witnessed changes in the last 10 years.when I first moved here, the area was dark, badly lit,buildings/cars often got broken into. Now there are lots of businesses.Crime has gone down dramatically.
it's rather noisy at times but it's the right kind of noise- punters in the bars, rather than kids/criminals/dodgy characters. WHo wants to "save" shoreditch?
If you do, please support the new developments. It will ensure that businesses come to the area, inspiring kids in the area.
I am a Londoner and support the buildings of skyscrapers in the area. There is a cluster of tall buildings emerging in the City and any additional towers will fit in. Stop this conservative, backward-looking hysteria!
Hang on a second...Who consulted the local community when thousands of asians came flooding into the area. We were ousted out of our culture and our homes by faceless extreme socialist beauracrats who allowed another culture to overrun us. We were silenced. We were tolerant people whos community was built on integrated immigration. But when this started and we voiced concerns, we were called racist.
This is a fucking disgrace! It' such a tragedy to see our old buildings destroyed for the corporate dollar. Hamerson are bastards - I've actually been to their offices, and they're obviously not short of a bob or two. They're greedy. The council are greedy. Everyone, make sure you say something about this before it's too late!
barrynormal misses the point - it's not the individuals that flock to areas that matter, it's the fabric of the city itself. Villages in London like Shoreditch will continue to go in and out of fashion and that's fine but to bulldoze huge swathes of culturally and historically interesting areas of the city simply so that a relatively small group of people can make huge profits is obscene.
Good point Bretwalda007! You've hit the nail on the head there.
Areas, like buildings, go in and out of fashion continually but it seems particularly ironic that in the year we're celebrating the wonderful renovation of St Pancras station (thankfully saved from demolition by John Betjeman, Wayland Young and like minded campaigners in the 1960's) certain powers seem intent on repeating the same old mistakes.
Future generations will take a very dim view indeed of the bulldozing of Shoreditch.
Unfortunately this is happening, don't get me wrong. If there's any protests etc I'll be down there. Shoreditch has been a big part of my life over the last 10 years. Lets not go down without a fight.
One thing they forgot to mention is the amount of traffic and polution those big buildings will bring. I've seen it happen here in America. City after city loses their beautiful view in favor of cement and glasss. Developers SUCK!
Typical crap from land developers. I encourage the people of Great Britain to stop this kind of destruction. If you don't,you'll end up living in a giant cess pit/strip mall like we do here in the U.S.A. Such architecture should be preserved. People in our country have no respect for history or beauty. Do you want to become like us?
any campaign that matt johnson is involved in ,must be a worth while campaign."DONT BE TRAMPLED ON, PEOPLE OF SHOREDITCH.FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND TRUE"p.s.please write some more tunes matt ! i miss you ! one of the greatest lyricists of the modern age."AS THE POUND IN OUR POCKETS TURNS INTO A DOLLAR"
In an age where history is no longer treasured, and bigger and newer is better, I fear that every town will have an Applebees and be overtaken by highrises. It really is a disgusting mistake. Wishing you all the luck in your efforts. Stacy
How horribly sad. One of the many things that impressed me about England when I went there in 1994, this was before the London Eye of course, was how I saw several Roman ruins scattered around the city. In only one instance, which is forever imprinted on my brain, I saw a short crumbling Roman wall about 5 to 6 feet away from the side of a very large, modern building! That blew me away, that is unheard of in the U.S. To think care was taken not to disturb it while the building went up! cont'd...

I take it you guys don't understand's shoreditch history?
And I am also guessing you don't understand SoHos history?
These 2 places in London have always been the area that people who were not allowed to fit into the community seeked refugee in.
This dates back way past when the Jewish community moved into BrickLane around I believe the 1940's?
And likewise SoHo which the gay community took refugee in.

shoreditch was mostly a shithole not so long a go, isnt this part of the same evolution towards a thriving metropolis?
having said that I agree it would be a terrible shame to see it change to the extent shown in the video.

Shoreditch was dead a long time ago anyway since the suits started appearing for drinks and the deluge of shit bars opened.
We've all moved more up into hackney. I suggest you all do the same. It's still going just somewhere slightly different.

But this one looks particularly horrible in this beautifully produced video. Those things they want to build are too big and really ugly.
