i must've missed it... what was in the little gray nylon case tucked into the loops on the outside of the front of the bag - near the reflective band?
Thanks Nutn' for all your hard work and your vids.I wish your vids were shorter and more direct, alot of the talking isn't helpful for me but the info in between is very important and useful. The prybar, gloves & hack saw are excellent ideas. Gearing up your bag for the purpose of rescuing & helping others is commendable.
Watch/listened to all three parts while working on an art project for college. Since I carry a backpack with me at all times while I am there, I see no reason why I shouldn't incorporate some of this stuff into my system. I already EDC at least one knife and a flashlight but first aid is something I need to look into, since I don't even have some in my car. Thanks. Im already shopping for my kit. Living here in Philadelphia I know ill need it some day. Would recommend a folding carbine (kel-tec sub 2000) or an sbr'ed glock ?
@Tdaz250 For lightness and mobility. Once you get above 20 pounds it's pretty heavy to carry around, and you very well might not have your super comfy hiking shoes on. Bigger bags are for keeping at home base, this seems like more of a "get home bag," hence only a couple days of food etc.

Wonder why they couldn't seem to get it together on that day? Maybe Nutn can tell us since he is an aviator.__Hey Nutn, how come NORAD didn't intercept those planes?
@ACIMpsychology I just can't resist...NORAD doesn't intecept planes or anything else. It detects them. The planes used on 9/11 were among the thousands of commercial flights in the air that day. The whole attack was over within an hour or so, the damage was done. There was very little time for the military to react.

@ACIMpsychology Thermite?! Do you even know what thermite is? Seriously, the devotion to these far-fetched conspiracy theories dishonors the memories of 3000 slaughtered Americans. The fact is that our government was caught with its guard down and failed to protect its people from a simple, devious, and diabolical terrorist plot. It is folly to speculate beyond that.
Great videos man. Really enjoyed the series. I liked the blending in idea. It wouldn't have been my initial instinct, but makes A TON of sense in the context. Out-freakin-standing, really appreciate the work you do for us.
Weight should be a bigger consideration. If the SHTF, you may have to MOVE. No amount of gear redundancy will help you be more mobile. If you don't mind the weight, replace the redundancy with more food and water or some clothes. Keep the flint and steel + lighter in a waterproof container- if your lighter failed, it's probably wet. The prybar is a great idea. I'd ditch the punch if I was carrying that.
repelling is an excellent idea, im from Christchurch, New Zealand and during our recent earthquakes... i remember seeing office workers trying to repel out of an office building using curtains and shirts, bet they wish they had repelling ropes.
Good series, I would stress the most important piece of equipment is your body and mind. Read as much as you can on survival skills. Get all the medical (dental) check ups and work done. Get yourself to the point that you are the best you can be if all medical services were taken away. I am getting myself up to date so that I know what my limitations are. I am dropping weight and getting my cardio up. If nothing bad ever happens great you are in the best shape of your life enjoy it. Peace folks
Like lekkerconche, I, too, am female. So maybe you can address not only the "dudes", but us "dudettes" as well : ) I live in a big city and so this video was relevant to me. It was nice to see a comprehensive list for us city-dwellers. Thanks for all the great info!! By the way, I don't think you're parachuting idea was stupid at all. On the contrary! Keep rockin "dude" : )
great video I said that about the parachutes as well I believe it should be a law lol if people are going to work that high. I ain't never parachuted or probably ever will but if it ended up being like 9/11 your damn sure I'd learn really fast how to lol may land wrong break a bone or somethin but if I survive thats all that matters to me
I extremely appreciate your attention to detail and your sound, well thought out POU for each item. Your entire TNP is a rare and wonderful thing. I wish there were more people like you doing this for the good of the general population. You are a great person and I appreciate you providing this Great service FREE OF CHARGE to the viewer. Priceless public service. Thank you.
I have actually washed my scott shop towels in the washing machine and reused them. They really do rock. Awesome vids, I have learned a lot. Thank you for taking the time to make them..
Great tutorial as always. I would love to be able to be able to base jump out of a burning hirise to save my ass. I do have a question. What do you think about the countrycom eod pry bar. My usk will double as my edc, as I take public transportation and don't have a spot where I can store a usk at the moment. I like the stanley bar but its too big. Thanks-Grizzly, sheep puppy.
So... If a person doesn't want to go to the "cops" to find out what is legal and what is not in their state... who does a person go to for advice and feel certain that the information is correct? Then what if you travel and go through a state that doesn't recognize your "conceal carry" permit? If moving to another state how is it best to transport your "protection" including ammo? Is there a limit to the amount of ammo a person can own? Where do I look for information for a state I may move to?
Geez! Man! Totally awesome 3 video series!!! I am just getting started on the "bug-out bag" and stocking food. Then I saw one of your videos at random and clicked! I am so very glad I did:) So, there is NO WAY I would have enough bucks to stock the bags like you have... but, I have a visual list of "necessities" to choose from! Fantastic of you to give prices too! I couldn't do a "grab and run" so I am trying to figure out how to "survive" where ever I am at the time. Feezable?
Great kit ! Thanks for taking the time to share this info with everyone. I would like to suggest an addition to your 'High Rise' capability section. That is 80 - 100lb nylon fishing line. 1 or 200 yards of that is light, compact and can be used to pull a rope up from the ground. :)
What is that thing under the reflective strap, on the front of the pack? Seen it in all three parts and now I am extremely curious, you didn't mention it :)
It's amazing how much thought you put into everything. Thank you for your hard work, and I hope you make those rappelling videos you were talking about.
Whats up Nut N Fancy? I just wanna say that these videos are very informational in preparing my own USK. Thanks! Question though? with the firearm and OC spray do you really think that anyone in that time of chaos is gonna be worried about the firearm laws or what kind of pepper spray their citys laws forbid them from carrying? lol! I know for a fact that I wouldn't care. Anything to protect me and my family will be used regardless until our saftey and well being is guaranteed. Again great vids
I have a similar kit, but organized differently. I split the kit in two: stuff you need to "wear" (ready to use, when things go bad: knife, light, multitool, gloves, breathing mask, according to the scenario) and stuff I keep in the bag which I might need.
Also, I always bring a good compass, especially if I'm in places I don't know. Map + good compass + block notes.
But this is actually the kit I use in the rescue team I'm in, not a USK (blending with people not needed)
Great information. Keep it comng. But, what the heck is in that little blue wallet thing on the outside of the backpack??? Sorry, I watched for 2 hours didn't catch it and it's bugging me. :) Shame upon me for thinking it but, I must confess I thought you could probably make a hat out of that tin foil because you must have like 2 dozen blades in that kit. And I know you already carry 3 or 4 on your person anyway. There is a fine line between redundancy and insanity Nutn. I'm just saying...
Thanks Nutn. Good stuff here. I carry a high quality respirator in my kit. It's bulky but light, and I think it's important to have one for a variety of reasons...
Wow, that image at 5:45 is from the beachside suburb of Cronulla in Australia, when there were race riots in 2005 I think it was (I live nearby). Amazing that these images are being used by an American years later. Such a disgusting shame too (that we had these riots), it's embarrassing.
Thanks for the vids though nutnfancy! I'm holed up in a cast after ankle surgery and loved watching em!
@leakeyboy Keep in mind that there's been race riots in America, too. I'm sure he found these in a generic Google Images search, so don't feel too bad.
I'm building a U.S.K. and I'm putting a tomahawk in it for breaking lock hasps, raking/ breaking glass, creating "new doors", hammering, self defense, and whatever else.
Watch al the episodes from Pt1 - Pt3 , and I think you did forget your item on Pt1 around 38:59 the item you pulled out between the crank radio and uber pepper spray... Big fan love all you videos I hope you keep it coming!!!
lol this makes one of my kits feel so inefficent, but being a 'thru-hiker' i'm kinda the Karen Carpenter when it comes to kit. Something on tool end the I think is far superior to the small hacksaw, is essentialy a hand 'sawzall' or recipricating saw handle. allows for multiple combinations of blades. Lenox in particuliar makes some geat ones for fire and rescue. Worth checking out.
hey nutn...great vids watched em all like 4 times now haha...i just wanted to say that i find those lighters you use in your fire kit are garbage...they usually dont last me through a pack of cigarettes...keep at it bro
I've got a Stanley portable hacksaw handle dealie, though mine is a plastic version. As a test, I used it to shorten my 870's barrel to 18.5". It worked. I trust it.
I just want to mention that I am a chick, and I am watching this and prepare also. Thanks for all the helpful info, and I just want the fellas to know that some of us ladies are prepared.
I just want to mention that I am a chick, and I am watching this and prepare also. Thanks for all the helpful info, and I just want the fellas to know that some of us ladies are prepared
Repelling??? Base jumping??? I don't think it's crazy. It's the must reasonable thing to do. And a medium size pry bar!!! Going to add one as soon as possible.
At the end of this video you say, "I work my butt off for you guys". Nutn...i definitely see this now. Just writing down all the info, item by item had my hand hurting. Excellent work. I am just starting the foundations of my survival gear/mindset/BOB and USK. The tornadoes spinning through the southern states has me thinking about my own preparedness. This series was extremely helpful. Been a fan of your page for a while now and i look forward to more vids.
What a great series of videos! As a New Yorker I thank you. This series has provided a plethora of information and options for my USK. And the music rocks too!
I dont know if you know dude but AHA and other organizations have changed bleeding control. so start packing guaze and no more cotton balls and no advil- they are blood thinners. try tylenal
All your videos go a long way toward separating the Truth from the BS and have helped me bring me and my family toward the level of preparedness we now enjoy. You DO work your butt off and this new series is an excellent example. Thank you for keeping the city dweller in mind. As a prepper who lives in between even i could tell there wasn't a single item that was unnecessary or even too redundant. not dissappointed
One Item that I did not see that you have and I feel is a must in any U.S.K. is Zip Ties. That is one item that I just kinda have a feeling I will want. Also they are light and easy to store. Thank you for making these videos. Gave me a lot of good ideas.
@outpatient83 Zip ties were mentioned, and I totally agree I run them in my kit, as well as the duct tape on cards, very good way to carry tape without a whole roll.
Excellent series of videos! I will definitely make modifications to my bug out bag. If I may add a few suggestions ...in addition to salt have sugar packets ,there are many diabetics in this country and when in doubt treat as though someone is hypoglycemic ,although your candy bars will help for those that can chew. Alcohol pads will not make you sterile just cleaner and in a SHTF situation you work with what you have. Thanks for all of your videos they are the best!
Wau... I can´t belive I didn´t watch this earlier. Im taking all Iw heard and seen here, and go do my very own U.S.K. Very helpfull and fun to watch, especially the basejump part, it has a clear point, but it´s still funny to think it just might save someones life. Love the stuff your doing to all of us. Greatings from Finland, yes, good words spread very far to meny ears. Like we say hear in Finland, Hyvää päivänjatkoa ystävä = Have a good day friend.
Great video. Thinking about the average city-dwelling sheep-type person working in a high rise office building, I do wonder about the ability, legality, and judgement of staging weaponry (specifically a handgun) in that building as part of a USK. To do so intelligently would require consent of the employer and the building owner, and a way of restricting access (your own office that only you have the keys to?). That combo of factors doesn't seem very likely. Something to think about.
Watching the bit about tower block disasters reminded me of a film called Incendio search 'incendio 1974.' The fire brigade were getting prank calls from our school, so they came in and showed it to everyone. The calls stopped.
Peace from the UK, the non sucky home of Accuracy International, the Lee Enfield 303 and The SAS. Peace to all TNP crew worldwide.
Really love your vids, nutn. I do have a few ideas for you to consider/comment on. Flat N95 masks Xcaper fire/smoke mask Safety googles w/foam face gasket Mainstay ration instead of meal packets Granola bars (won't melt) Energy gel shots Folding saw (cutting through drywall) Water Purification tabs (if filter fails) A proper rain poncho (useful as shelter, too) Celox /Quickclot z-fold gauze, Israeli Bandage, Chest Seal Just something to think about. Keep up the great work!
Much more than fantastic. Useing your " Keeping it Real" out look, I have made all Family members create for themselves a "Blizzard Bag" .This is taken with them to school , work ,Where ever. It is a short term system for being caught in a blizzard. we get hit sometimes 3 time a year with them. From watching your series I will see about getting them small AM FM radios(Informational and Entertaining). Will need to do more looking on your first aid kits( Schools are real Anal ) THANK-YOU
awesome, awesome work nutn' bro, how about a video specifically showing building rappelling guide(might do 1 myself), (base jumping guide maybe not) or even make it mandatory or something a good employer would do, to provide rappelling anchor points all rooms, and accessible rappel kits, and training (huh how about that) - i feel a crusade for me coming on!
ps what about a small stash of cash in your kit? or bad idea?
@SoonToBeUSMCSniper if were a ghillie suit every day ,every body will think your mad,but have your ghilli suit in the car, jeep, truck could be use full
@SoonToBeUSMCSniper hahha its more likely you will take out your rifile shoot than wast 2-3 minuts wering a suit....the only guys we end facing on day to day are idiots..
Nutnfancy when u talked about base jumping out of a high rise was awesome. I've always been telling my friends that if ever i work or live in a high rise i'd have both base jumping gear and repelling gear as a safety and they'd always laugh at me and say i'm crazy. I think i'm just thinking realistic. I also believe in having a plan B incase help ain't coming in that case i'd find a fresh source of water and fertile ground. For hunting a .22 rifle would be best.
Quick note on the wire cutters I picked up from a firefighter survival class, the 'blade' part does NOT go all the way to the pivot point. Problem being, in a panic/hurried situation you'll jam the wire into there but may not cut all the way through. Just wanted to bring that up.
Oh My God Nut'n. I told my wife the same thing during 9/11. I said I would have not worked in the towers without a parachute. I told everyone that and they said I was crazy.
Its all good buying cheap stuff but once your in a situation when you have to rely on these tools for more that once you will think why did i but this crap.
Thanks for sharing the design of your USK. I like the way you bring together the best systems and products to serve well in a new context. Your point about high-rise fires has me considering emergency smoke hoods. Pricey, but they appear to be compact, lightweight, and would fit in a computer bag or USK. Examples:
Peace of Mind Hood, Breath Of Life Emergency Escape Mask, or Evac-U8.
Are there any first responders in TNP who can comment on the usefulness of these products? Thanks in advance.
Greetings Nutnfancy, I have been a fan for over a year, my eyes have been open to the fragility of our society for much longer, but you have given me the way to channel my efforts more efficiently. I am now a subscriber of your channel and hope you will continue to find the time to inspire us all apart from your daily life. You are a true American in my book, I look up to you, and value your opinion immensely. Keep up the great work team TNP.
FYI, Costco still carries the Kirkland Scrubbing anti-bacterial wipes. They've just changed the packaging. Still in the 3-pack but now in rectangular soft packs, similar to what you'd see baby wipes packaged in. Keep up the good work!
Amazing series, man. When I get the time & money I will surely put one of these together with these videos in mind. I didn't plan on it, but I watched all three parts tonight while doing some tidying up. While lengthy, I don't think you could shorten them without missing out on something.
Omg, that was the third time i watched this whole series in about 1 year and i just cant get enough...i see myself watching it again in 2 or 3 months. Just great ideas in here...thanks a lot nutn!
For the small waterbottle; recom. switch to a stainless steel bottle for option to boil water. You rock nutn thanks for all the hard work.

Peace folks

It was nice to see a comprehensive list for us city-dwellers. Thanks for all the great info!! By the way, I don't think you're parachuting idea was stupid at all. On the contrary!

Very interesting video!

I'm holed up in a cast after ankle surgery and loved watching em!

lol this makes one of my kits feel so inefficent, but being a 'thru-hiker' i'm kinda the Karen Carpenter when it comes to kit. Something on tool end the I think is far superior to the small hacksaw, is essentialy a hand 'sawzall' or recipricating saw handle. allows for multiple combinations of blades. Lenox in particuliar makes some geat ones for fire and rescue. Worth checking out.

714hoot 1 year ago
Quick note on the wire cutters I picked up from a firefighter survival class, the 'blade' part does NOT go all the way to the pivot point. Problem being, in a panic/hurried situation you'll jam the wire into there but may not cut all the way through. Just wanted to bring that up.
