@Mannilopska Silencing a gun doesnt magically make it quiet (i know, it sucks). Basically, when you fire a bullet (any normal one, it breaks the sound barrier, and sounds like a large boom that echos.) Subsonic (sub=below, sonic=sound), keeps the noise below the barrier, hence the lack of "boom". However, it also doesnt have enough recoil to cycle even an AK. Hence, the pulling back on each round.

If you knew much about the weapons family you'd know that there have been several actual "bolt action" straight pull non semi auto AK variants built over the years. There are many countries and states that those arms were marketed for. The Romanians especially are big on building anything for anyone that will pay. Having said that you do understand that the AK in the video is a regular old normal shooting AK when used with normal ammo right?

Can anyone tell me why there are so many comments concerning the ear protection? If I watch other videos of people shooting without silencers , in war zones for example, they dont have ear protection... Is it really that necessary?

@Ripitkaputt69 Well in my armed service we always had ear protection when we were using blanks or hard ammunition. Actually the ear plugs becomes more of a standard stuff out there, especially the guys who carry the AT weapons :D

But you can't hear your sergeant that well in a fireing range when he's shouting at you so I can imagine how hard it would be hearing him in a fire fight xD

@JackJack762 It's a regular AK with subsonic ammo, so there's not going to be enough gas to cycle the action each time. It's a common problem running subsonic ammunition in a rifle not designed for it. That's where rounds like the .300 Whisper, .338 Spectre, and .458 SOCOM are best, though, as they're using a heavy weight bullet and are designed to create enough pressure to cycle a normal AR with the right gas system.

I do notice, however, that the slide does move backward ever so slightly after you fire a round.

When you build subsonic ammo typically two things are done.

1. The bullet weight is increased.

2. The powder is changed to a faster burning pistol or shotgun powder.

The pressure developed in the chamber and barrel are much less than with standard rifle ammo and its difficult if not impossible to design a gas operated rifle that will cycle fully with subsonic ammo and standard ammo. You can have one or the other.

CERTAIN guns you won't fire rapidly with subsonic rounds, AK being one of them, but a gun like an AR will (a friend of mine has it and it shoots just find as long as you get the right amount of grains and don't have it underpowered). As for this, maybe it was the audio, or where he shot it, but it did sound a bit louder than I'm used to when shooting suppressed.
