  • I normally do not like covers of The Beatles songs ,but Alanis' version, Siouxsie and the Banshees along with Australia's Doug Parkinson's versions have absolutely nailed this song, unlike Gwen Stefani and Joe Cocker's hideous attempts at Beatles songs which have been butchered.Just one word for Alanis' cover BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!! especially the way she slips in We Can Work It Out in the last 20 seconds of this beautiful song.

  • I say Siouxsie & the Banshees' (featuring The Cure's Robert Smith) 1983 cover version is better than this one.

  • what an amazing energy blast from a truly beautiful being

  • 1969 - Wes Montgomery "Mother Nature's Son" - a beautiful rendition of the song. I've been looking for it for years. Can't find it.

  • Great cover, did not butcher it, put her talent to make it her own, and make a relatively unknown Beatles classic better known by those not born until 20 years after The White Album. Great rendition of a truly great studio Beatles song.

  • I must say and I agree with @bagyourface im not gonna lie

  • @Kaneownzu why's that considering she isn't really an artist that sells her soul to be on the cover of every magazine etc? Fame doesn't seem to be of much concern for her.

  • she looks like she's off her parkinson's meds

  • Makes me want to lick her cunt. Wow. Did I just say that? Okay, so I said that!

  • this is really really good....but doug parkinson's cover is still the best ever.

  • I remember being 10 or 11 years old and listening to this song, over and over again, in my older brother's room, on an 8-track of the beatles greatest hits.. So mystical, and beautiful.. Nice cover, as well..

  • i just made my own video to this song! please check it out :)

  • It's ok

  • we can work it out !!

  • usually, i hate beatles covers, but this one is great.

  • It has nothing much to do with technical imperfections or instrumental choice. For Alanis, it was a personal landmark occasion: A rare, triumphant display of pure emotional explosion at precisely the right occasion when she needed it. I watched this as it was happening and was totally blown away by the sincerity in her voice in spite of (and because of) the intense pressure for personal best. I feel proud of her. Like that's the way I'd like to be able to meet the challenge if I was up on stage.

  • This is the finest live performance ever! The professionalism and command of Alanis: she steps out, pace by pace slowly bulilding a rapor with the audience, herself and the spirit of John. Urging herself to open up, urging the audience to open up. Gaining momentum as she finds/loses herself in the meaning of the song. Culminating in warming up the theatre and her own inherent austerity. You can see how she was exalted into a transfiguration of sublime beauty as she nailed this moment of tribute.

  • The most excellent tribute to Lennon since Julian! Alanis excelled beyond all expectations! Either you get it or don't. A loss for those who don't! Couldn't have been any better for those who do!

  • Comin from a true beatles song, I give this my full approval; Alanis is just f'n amazing here.

  • don't like stupid background nose irratating keyboard nose ! would be better just her and gutair peace out !

  • no depth or feeling in this rendition

  • @machachos1 alanis isn't capable of depth or feeling. she just maniacally craves the spotlight at all times as some kind of poet. i didn't expect much of this.

  • WOW!! I was just blown away!! A fantastic version of my favorite Beatles song! This is a keeper.

  • Didnt Doug Parkinson and In Focus record this in the late 60's ?

  • What a truly amazing song by a superb interpretor of lyrics!

  • Querida Prudencia, porque no sales a jugar. Mira a tu alrededor. Lo podemos resolver. Lolz

  • I like siouxsie and the banshees version and also alanis version is very beautiful as well

  • There is no limit to this trick and a tube of KY jelly.

  • I like Alanis, but I find this performance a little, well, boring.

I much prefer this version (copy and paste this into youtube search - MCS4LFfS9kI) with a bit of passion and soul even if sound/video quality leaves a lot to be desired.

  • (I'm FINNEGANAGENNIF) And what I meant is: that you can watch Alanis (a very analytical artist) warm up and metamorphosize as she gets into this song. You can see the rapturous transfiguration in her face as she realizes how perfectly she nails this, even, I suspect, blowing away her (and the audiences) own expectations. Like an olympic athlete achieving their personal best and gleaning the gold! The moment is appropriate for this intellectual artist to realize she's also a beautiful songstress.

  • Prudence as defined by the Free Online Dictionary: Synonyms: prudence, discretion, foresight, forethought, circumspection

These nouns refer to the exercise of good judgment, common sense, and even caution, especially in the conduct of practical matters. Prudence is the most comprehensive: "She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older" (Jane Austen).

Lennon appropriately chose this name about a soul who should take the time to look around and enjoy life.

  • @AZ09not Yes it is a good cover. And just maybe a special moment in music history.

  • great cover i enjoyed it

  • Not a big fan of Alanis, but think she did this very well.

  • Perfecta esa canción para mi hermosa Alanis =)

  • great version.check out doug parkinson version fantastic also...............

  • Sadly like John Lennon married Yoko Ono. Alanis has also married someone with little talent. Hopefully we never will see the day that Mister Morisette is involved with her great music. Nobody wants to hear some dope rapping in one of her songs.

  • sweet. john would have loved this. he would have done a duet.best cover of this song to date.

  • @jibhorse I beg to differ----no one will ever do this like Jerry Garcia

  • @BIODTLOTHER1terrapin agreed, you are right. shits all over this.

  • @jibhorse Even better than his own son remaking this very song? I like this though.

  • I saw this whole tribute when it aired. out of all the covers, i think she did the best job. then again, she is my favorite artist, so i may be biased. well done though, i like to think.

  • Damn! What a voice! Excellent job.

  • Well done, faithful cover.

  • Alanis nailed this....I do like the original better...but this one can stand on its own....Damn good job

  • What was the occasion of this performance? Some award show: just curious.

Well, everybody is entitled to their opinion. I think Alanis did an excellent job with this. She did her entire own version of this song, but also somehow in Lennon's spirit and that is what a cover should always be about (no matter what the result is, because that is always a matter of taste). I rather hear somebody being creative and do their entire own take on a song than some weak copy of a original

  • @CF1975 Well said.

  • @CF1975 Yeah, if you're going to cover a song, don't just try to trace over the original. Can you imagine Jimi Hendrix trying to sing and play like Bob Dylan!? Everyone would have been at a loss. Alanis put her own style into this and came up a champ for refreshing Lennon's original. Nirvana remade Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World but for what? It just poorly mimicked the original and added nothing to the world of music. Alanis gave us a brave new approach and did it live in a perfect tribute!

  • If you'll allow me, I apologize for coming on like a jerk. I often say things tongue in cheek just to evoke a response. Don't take it too personally. I'm glad you have opinions and state your feelings. That put's you head and shoulders above most people's comments. Sometimes I don't even like Alanis. But honestly, I don't think anyone today could have paid a better homage to John Lennon and think she hit this one out of the park. Is it really better? Perhaps, vocally, yes. But no attack on John.

  • I contain multitudes. I can like you and hate you at the same time. For instance, Finneganagennif said it best. That's me too up there.

  • @whitestripesnut333 Okay, I take it all back. You're obviously some kind of musical genius with far superior knowledge than I can ever hope to achieve. Good luck with your opinions and may you and you be very happy. No. I mean it. Really. You win. Looking forward to anything else you might say. I'll just be silent as you spread your wisdom to the masses who need your guidance- who would otherwise be lost. I bow to your insights and live long and prosper. I know when I'm licked. C = decent, sure.

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH see you have me all wrong again! I wouldn't EVER think that my opinion or views on something is any greater or better than the next person's! I honestly would love to have heard how you felt about this song, but instead I was attacked for having a different outlook than yours. I am no musical genius & would never claim to be. I am just a chick who loves the music that she loves & is constantly looking to broaden her musical adventures!

  • Who was it who said, "Do I contradict myself? Very well, I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes." Walt Whitman

I am not a Beatle. But I am Walt whitman.

You sir, however, are a liar and stand on no ground.

On the other hand. I don't mean that. I like that you defend yourself. Not very well, but you do stand up and speak, Sometimes I might even agree with you. And have enjoyed the interaction. So there!

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH - Well first off I am not a sir. Secondly, I would love for you to point out my lies... You have called me a liar several times but you seem to be the one with no ground. To lie one must change their story, I have stood by mine this entire time.

You sadden me. I love hearing others ideas on a song or life in general but when their opinion is shoved down my throat it makes for nothing more than a sour taste.

The only ground I need to stand on is my opinion & I stand strong!

  • @whitestripe I am sorry to have called you sir. I guess you come off like a man. I wouldn't have wanted to call a lady an asshole liar or anything. Had I known better I would have used different terms and language. Carry on Ms.

  • For someone who is so hung up on contradictions - to quote you, quoting the Beatles... "Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend. I have always thougth that it's a crime.". But yet you are still here fussing & fighting.

  • @whitestripesnut333 But I'm not a Beatle. And I am allowed to go outside this song.

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH So the quote was meant for others, not yourself? Yet another contradiction!

  • @whitestripesnut333 Dear whitestripesnut333, Thanks for coming out to play. Greet the brand new day. You are part of everything too. Look around. At the least, you may agree, Alanis has a great set of pipes. See you next time. Take care. Maybe we can work it out, too.

  • And I am not one of those people who think that no one should touch a Beatles song. I was excited when I found this video, I love the Bealtes & I usually love Alanis.I was disappointed when I heard it.

That is my opinion, it's not a fact! I do not expect to change your thoughts on this song or anything else! I guess what I don't understand is why you are so angry that some random person on Youtube doesn't agree with your way of seeing/hearing something.

  • Sadly even over simple goes straight over your head. Now you are quoting "A Christmas Story", talk about pathetic!

What would be a decent grade? Passing is decent & that is all this version is, passing. There is nothing special about it, be it a negative or positive. I even tried to post the meaning of decent but that didn't stick with you either. I have yet to lie... I will say it again. It is a DECENT cover. She didn't nail it nor did she butcher it. Please stop talking out of your ass.

  • Remember " A Christmas Story "?: "C+!!!!!" Well, did Ralphy think that was a "decent" grade, even with the "+"? Maybe you were thinking of some of your own grades, when, if you got a "C", you considered that "decent" for you??????????????????

    ; )-

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH (Hey, I'm replying to myself!) You took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't have said it any better.

  • Just having fun. Point is probably that Alanis deserves a lot of credit for nailing this. Not everyone will agree of course and that's fine. And thanks for whoever posted this. When I first saw this, and saw how she totally devoted herself to being worthy of the original, I think she was exalted into doing more than just a decent job. She broke ground with her vocal control and the "live" pressure helped make it perfect. I could be wrong. Let me check... Nah, I'm right on this.

  • And this is my last word on this: Beatles version is a classic. But Alanis took it and made it her own and in some ways excelled beyond the original for some of us. Duh.

  • Alanis did a fantastic cover here! Either you can hear it or not. Don't fall into the Emperor's New Clothes syndrome and think that, whatever the Beatles did, could not be improved on. I wouldn't even litsten to Bob Dylan sing "All Along The Watchtower" either, after Jimi got a hold of it . Or would you prefer Paul Williams singing "We've Only Just Begun" to Karen Carpenter's version just because he was a great writer?

  • C'mon, don't eat shit! I'm the biggest fan of the Beatles, and this cover is great!

  • hear her sing it. Sorry for the typo, but some ad covered some of my response. What I tried to say was: How can you say it's a decent version, then go on to rip it and Alanis apart? Or are you just full of shit?

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH

I am sure that my previous comment will not make much sense to you, so let's see if this does.

This song being sung by her would get a C grade. This is passing, it is a DECENT grade. She didn't get an F which would be equivalent to Diddy trying to sing this song. She didn't get an A+ which is what I would give the Beatles versions simply because there isn't a higher grade available.

I do love Alanis, but her version of this song falls short. It's not memorable, it's just there

  • @whitestripesnut333 Once again a liar tries to bullshit his way out of being caught in making a glaring mistake with another lie. Since when is a "C" grade decent? And you give the Beatles an "A+". I'm sure that you'd get an "Incomplete" with

your comments that just don't add up. Except in the area of Pompous Attempts to grade the Beatles or Alanis with an over simple (even for you) grading system, you WOULD get a "Complete"...in being a total asshole! Do you even HAVE a point beside your head?

  • I think it's good! of course it doesn't compare to John Lennon but I love it. :)

  • this version is good but not as good as siouxie and the banshees version. you can argue but end of day siouxie has probably sold more records than tayler swift ever will....

  • @sianc666 uhhh...problem is this is Alanis fucking morissette- and she holds the record of top female rock album ever.

  • Usually the original = the best. Seldom, somebody takes a classic and improves on it. Alanis had more voice, passion and fun in this than the great but rather austere (even if intentionally vapid) Beatles performance. Personal preference. Some people actually prefer Red's version of Ordinary World over the original by Duran Duran! HA! (I can't see it myself) But here I think there WAS room for improvement. Neil Diamond had help with The Monkees and Paul Williams had the Carpenters. So let it be.

  • While you see it your way.

  • Lastly, I think the Beatles original version of we can work it out is better than the Beatles original version of dear prudence. And it would be harder for me to acknowledge anyone doing that song better. But Alanis including that "we can work it out" as a coda may have precluded her idea of jazzing up the original dear prudence to that level of production. Shouldn't we allow the possibility that she foresaw the controversy that now ensues inevitably by comparision and sentiment.Isn't it ironic?

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH for someone who says "life is very short & there's no time for fussing & fighting my friend" you're sure doing quite a bit of it. It's a decent version. I am not sickened nor am I blown away. I don't feel any emotion when I hear her sing it which is the opposite feeling I get when I hear The Beatles sing this beautiful song. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on this song & any other out there, I don't care how many times you post you are not going to persuade anyone!

  • @whitestripesnut333

THANK YOU. My thoughts exactly, couldn't have said it any better.

  • @whitestripesnut333 Your half-assed remark saying it's a decent version, then saying immediately afterward, that you "don't feel any emotion when you hera her sing it. " proves you're a fucking liar and have your head up your ass! How can

you say it's a decent version with one side of your mouth, and then immediately state you don't feel any emotion from it. How can a song be a " decent verson" and then say it's the opposite of the Beatles. Logically then, Beatles

    would not be decent version?

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH

Decent - enough to meet a purpose.

She didn't do a horrible job, she didn't do a great job... it was merely decent. You are correct, the Beatles' version wouldn't be considered decent. I would go with heartfelt & magical!

Now please eat your own words & stop fussing & fighting. Your ignorance is showing!

  • The question is: What would John think? Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend. I have always thougth that it's a crime. So I will ask you once again. Try to see it my way. Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong. Why do you see it your way? There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long. We can work it out. We can work it out. This is like the lunar eclipse vs. the solar eclipse. Both versions are excellent. And we're lucky to have both now.

  • Well the first model T's was great. But does that mean we can't improve on them and prefer to ride in a Lexus? Bob Dylan wrote All along the watchtower but Hendrix made it better and I'd rather listen to that arrangement giving all due credit to the writer. Alanis is a much better musician so let her outshine the original.

  • Wow. This is really good.

  • whenever i see alanis morissette i think of a straight jacket

  • I have loved her since I can remember, her creativity is amazing. Ever since day one, she has made an impact on the music industry.

She does a superb remake of this song. You can tell by her voice she believes in it, she loves it. Not just someone trying to mimic the legendary J.L.

  • Alanis Morissette is the Jethro Tull of her generation. A unique genius in our time.

  • Imho

  • No song should be untouchable.

  • You're insane! This is ten, maybe, eleven times better than the "original". It is part of the "original" like jimi hendrix's All Along the Watchtower. It is John Lennon only in the form of Prudence. She took this and made it her response and boosted it with more than just Beatles power. One of those rare moments when someone of exceptional talent today overcomes the dull audience and shakes the world. She's got more guts in her little finger than all of us put together. Alanis is a better singer.

  • @TheFLASHHHHHHH

You think her cover of Dear Prudence is better than the original? How in the world would you ever come to a conclusion like that? I’m sorry, but you've left me completely dumbfounded.

  • @LoveBlainezz Still dumfounded?

  • @LoveBlainezz I think it's better in a listening sense. I have to give cred where it's due of course so all respects to the beatles...but Alanis just...has a voice.

  • @yancybutler

She does have a voice, I am in no way denying that.

But come on, John Lennon or Alanis Morissette? In my opinion his voice is far more moving, beautiful, and of course legendary.

  • @LoveBlainezz Alanis. John has a pretty ordinary voice-amazing writer ordinary voice. Kind of like dylan in that sense. Another reason I kinda dig The Alanis version is that I'm familiar with her work and think it's as lyrically relevant. Yes I said it. lol Seriously with songs like "Symptoms" and "Still" you can see that lennon and Morissette where like mental siblings.

  • @LoveBlainezz I guess what I'm saying is that since what I feel is a relevant, politically concious artist (not in the vein of B.Spears and Beyonce) with a good voice I have no qualms about the cover.

  • taylor and most NEW singers are zero compared to 60's and alanis etc

  • She did a fine job but i personally believe that some songs are so magnificent they should not touched or redone.

In my opinion, "Dear Prudence" is one of these songs.

  • Absolutely the best rendition I've heard. Thank you Alanis for your perception.

  • She caught the moment..... CAN YOU?

  • One of my favorite songs, and I think she did a great version of it.

  • I had no idea she covered this. I love the beatles and I say she did the song justice. I mean this woman has a perfect voice, she deserves the fame she's worked for.

And that's coming from a guy who is a metal junkie.

I give you an A+ Alanis.

  • Brilliant.

  • Beatles 4 ever!

  • I adore The Beatles and not a fan of Alanis but have to admit she did a nice job. Of course I prefer The Beatles original but this does John's classic justice IMHO.

  • Great cover and 'We Can Work It Out'

  • Critics who have nothing good to say should say it: NOTHING! Who wants to hear some self-superior asshole knock down this super-talented girl? with this brave, strange, inspiring voice enjoyed by millions. Are those who embrace bold new renditions beneath the intelligence of some idiot who can find no good in refreshing old songs? Music should be alive. Some want to "save" the masses with their superior knowledge of which version is better? Life's too short. If today's music is dead, so are we.

  • I like the original the best. Just how I am. She did a good job though.

  • all the comments i have read are dumb! this a great tune written by a great comper done by a great [if not the greatest ever] band! Alanis has a beautiful voice and does a terrific version in tribute. the original is in drop D tuning alanis is doing it in F. she is enjoying the performance and that shows thru so why would anybody have anything negative at all unless you just dont like the tune to begin with and if that was the case why did you click to watch this version?

  • This is the feminine response echo to the original and shouldn't sound like the original. This is like: oh yeah thank you for trying to wake me up,sir. Your attention and kind words got to me and i'm going to try to enjoy life from now on with your help. Thank you for helping me see. Isn't that what life should be about?! So anyone who doesn't get this should go pretend they know about music and nothing about life and someone trying to show respect and gratitude. This was an important moment.

  • Any asshole can see that she became the counterpart to John as becoming the response to the address: " Dear Prudence". She is Prudence here, responding to the call to wake up and look at some of the things she might be missing. But some "genius" critics in here would be comparing her version to the Beatles and missing the entire homage being given by surrogating her self as Prudence- actually thanking the original for finally waking up to the world around her. Do you get it yet? This is praise.

  • Comment removed

  • @allthingsinexcess Thank you. Thank you, very mutch. If you put a period down, then put your cursor in front of it, then type, you can push that period all the way to the end of your sentence. Or ad another period at the end, and you will always end your last sentence with a period. This works great unless you have an interjection at the end. Or you can preset it as a question mark if you know you want to end your paragraph with a question as a reminder of what the hell you were talking about.!?

  • @FINNEGANAGENNIF Well said. Thank you.

  • @jessbear1979 Thank you for your kind words.

  • @Mr500characters You're welcome. :-)

  • @jessbear1979 Thank you for your kind words. Oh I'm FINNEGANENNIF too...

  • @FINNEGANAGENNIF Wtf dude? This is just a good cover.

  • I like how she keeps her own style and doesn't try to copy The Beatles sound; yet doesn't disrespect the way the song was written. Great rendition if you ask me :]

  • Check out Siouxsie and the Bansheesa version of this.....way way better!

  • actually this a beatles song written by john lennon and paul mccartney...just to be accurate.

  • @newt0830 written by John Lennon, credited to Lennon/McCartney

  • @lilstewie86 actually paul assisted in the lyrics since he too wanted prudence to come out. as most songs in 1968 john and paul contributed in various degrees. john obviously wrote the structure while paul gave his advice for john to accept or reject.

  • @newt0830 that is simply false, john lennon wrote the song for mia farrow's sister, paul played bass and drums but didn't actually "write" the song

  • @lilstewie86 im not wrong at all. obviously you must be the fifth beatle they way u talk.

  • @newt0830 are u the fifth beatle, i am a music major, have studied the beatles more than any other musical group in history, have specifically studied john lennon more than any musician, have read many biographies about him, and trust me, he wrote this song, the lyrics and mood of the song scream john lennon not paul mccartney. thank you.

  • @lilstewie86 excuse me....im quite aware of the different styles perse...their different styles enabled them to construct a songwriting dynamic which u see in from me to you, we can work it out and birthday all of which were collaborations of some degree. Was Back in the USSR primarily writtten by Paul...obviously. However was John consulted and contribute to some degree ...YES as paul as repeateled said...was it 30%? 35%....3.5%...we will NEVERknow..surely you don't....so why debate it.

  • @lilstewie86 btw..you're music major credentials are about as useful as me having a degree in sports physchology and lecturing Babe Ruth how to swing a bat...in other words...SO WHAT? does that make your opinion more worthy than mine??

  • @newt0830 lol, u try so hard to say that no one knows yet u imply that u wud know before me, ur a fucking dick man, grow up.

  • @lilstewie86 you finally realize you cant defeat my point so you resort to a curse word...typical You-Tube boob....and I should grow up??

I don't have to "try hard" to prove an indisputable point..that no one knows but John and Paul...but one can hypothisize and its clearly evident that both of them needed each other whehter competitively or collaboratively..I notice you dont AGAIN address any of my points..but thats typical of someone who contends musical knowledge..but no depth..

  • @newt0830 im smarter than you. i have a bigger dick than you. i have more money than you. i get more pussy than you. im better than you in every conceivable way.

  • @lilstewie86 its good to see how you debunk the rumor that You-Tube Boobs have no maturity and intelligence. So much for you citing your muscial knowledge instead resort to just bafoonery.

About your superlatives..i guess thats why you call yourself "lil" stewie.

You're a clown...which only proves that my Beatle analysis trumped yours. It's tough to admit defeat but have a "lil" dignity and do so.

If not...don't bother to respond since you ran out of substance to say.

  • @newt0830 i'm a rapper dawg. that explains the "lil" does it not? sorry i have a sense of humor.

  • @lilstewie86 you're a rapper..that explains a lot...you should know alot about the Beatles and other rock groups...rap rips off enough from them...and then vandelizes it with their "talent"

  • @newt0830 ur a fucking genius!!!! can i suck your cock?!?!? my god ur insight is other worldly, please lemme suck ur huge might as well be black cock!!!!!!! orgasm orgasm orgasm

  • @lilstewie86 well i guess thats ends our debate. and who says you tube dialogue is a waste of time.....go back to your rap sewer

  • @newt0830 were we debating? do i live in a sewer? am i a rapper? if you didn't have a stick shoved in ur butthole then maybe you wud see that im having the time of my life with these back and forths, its all good, now that you know you can keep the stick in ur ass, i don't want you to lose all that pleasure over lil o' me

  • @lilstewie86 you're the one who started it...i thought i'd end it..and i did.....so....enjoy the stick....oh yea.just for good measure....Dear Pridence was written by John...helped by Paul.

  • @newt0830 i will decide when we end it :)

  • @lilstewie86 Does it matter? Seriously. Both of you need to get over yourselves. It's an amazing song by The Beatles. That's it.

  • @ariana124321 yea ur right, it's an amazing song that john lennon wrote.

  • @lilstewie86 OMG, you have the biggest humor, too! You've made my evening!

  • @newt0830 look at the song "back in the u.s.s.r." on the white album right before dear prudence... it is credited to lennon/mccartney but written by mccartney, you can hear the difference in their styles. thank you.

  • No one ever did this song better. Lennon made the song for this moment too. Alanis deserves all the praise that can be given to someone walking up to the plate and giving a pure rendition that brings out things the original didn't and vice versa. Isn't that why we have artists inspired by other artists inspired by life. She gave of herself. And it filled the moment.

  • I love both Alanis & The Beatles.

  • There is none of the bone-chilling cold in this that came through in Lennon's timeless read, none of the fear, none of the sense of empty space. All the holes are quite neatly musically filled, right down to what sounds like the Transporter from the Enterprise electronically whirling away in the background. Aside from Morissette's occasional inflection, it is as clinically sterile as an operating room. An utter disappointment to anyone who has much love for Beatles music.

  • @beejjackson Well you're wrong! You think that it's wrong for this talented girl to come out and nail it on the head? Let's just listen to Beatles Music by the Beatles because no other artist is worthy to honor them. Bullshit! You got your head so far up your ass you probably won't ever let a girl have fun with this enjoyment and gift to the audience. She gave the gift of music that night and did it as well as the little drummer boy. And the audience was blown away.....

  • @FINNEGANAGENNIF My child, the audience would have been blown away if she had farted for 3 minutes. Music has soul, life, character -- she denied all these and instead gave exactly what I mentioned -- a slick LA Lounge-lizard performance. Soulless, purposeless. Covers should enhance a song -- Elton John's "Pinball Wizard"; Alison Krauss' "Can't Find My Way Home", for example. Go back to Uncle Cracker and leave comments on real music to those who have the intelligence to appreciate it.

  • Alanis is just amazing...Her own work and surprisingly her cover songs as well. I mean come on...Her my humps was the most amazing thing like...ever.

  • Born in 1974, i was in full addiction to booze and drugs at that time. Man!!!!!!!!, Clean now but how certin years just bring you back.. Great Cover by the way.

  • No one else could have done this with the equal cold austerity that Lennon had transfering warm emotion into cold logical lyrics in strange ways that make you actually listen to the words because they are transformed thoughts in the abstract that should stand on there own. The ability to change the mood lighting of the song and sing to it in no way removes the meaning it just magnifies the importance of the original intent you are stretched to find. And it is there.

  • Alanis is pure genius here. You can see her confidence of pure reincarnation of Lennon's spirit with the added twist that i think she may be speaking of herself a little bit here that her own intellectual restrains that keep her professional may sometimes interfere with being openly warm. Face it, she's a bit of a Mr. Spock in the brain department. And in the end she breaks into an open smile that says i've been here all along. Not one mistake or false move in her voice like a musical athlete ah

  • Alanis is a pure genius of sound. Her intellectual ability is up there with Isaac Newton and Sigmund Freud. She shows such an unrestrained restrainment that even in this live performance not a thing out of place. Like an olympic athlete performing for the world. What a god damn professional!!!!

  • what was this show/for?

  • besides johnny lennon no one could have made it better

  • Alanis Morissette took this Beatles song and ran away with it and made it her own! Not since Jimmi Hendrix improved Dylan's All Along The Watchtower has someone so confidently paid homage to the original and gave it wings. What a performance and live too! You can see in her face she stole the crown on this one. Bravo for playing this.

  • I'm sorry but Alanis wins over Taylor Swift any day I miss this true live talent not the stuff out today this kind of music not fake in anyway like today

  • you must be the greatest artist to perform such a great song of legendary BEATLES!yeah she deserves enormous aplaus!!!!ALANIS IS INCOMPARABLE!

  • God cover's Dear Prudence? Wow.

  • @bilbomarks Yes. She took it up a notch didn't she?. Just about as powerful as you control as you can get before you move on to the vault of best covers of all time somewhere in the next step of evolution.

  • @FINNEGANAGENNIF Quite frankly I didn't think it was very good. The instrumentation mostly is what bothers me. It's very generically arranged. I'm sure if God chose some non studio (hired guns) type musicians, it could've been much better. Let me say this isn't a knock against God, it's a knock at the dudes behind God mostly and whoever arranged the cover.

  • i dont care if she suck witch she does but nobody shall ever sing the beatles songs again cause nobody can sing it like them

  • @antwon4u245 yeah she took it up a notch didn't she?

  • Awsome!

  • Though I don't like her version of the song, to be honest, I consider she's one of the most charming and spectacular female singers of all times!!!

  • Puleeze...Alanis is freakin' AWESOME!

  • she's pure grace.

  • Hooray for Dustin Hoffman, one of the greatest American actors ever!

  • I wish people who disses Alanis would just shut up and NOT watch her on youtube or listen to her. We all have our differences. My brother likes rap (which I hate), but I don't diss him or his favorite artists. Just walk away, listen to your stuff, and be content!
