Quirinius was gov of Syria twice, at the time of Herod and later in 6AD. Youre all going ot hell bc you dont know God and dont want God bc your sin distorts your ability to perceive but you will not admit your sin and have it cleansed/healed by God.
Romans persecute Christians to the point of extinction, or who knows "actual" extinction. They werent fu*king around thats clear. Soon after you have a Roman historian writing the Christian history and the Christians hold him up as evidence. I mean really. Whats wrong with that picture. If Jesus existed and was to come back, the first thing he'd do "Im guessing" is dish out some slaps and ask why you took the word of the enemy over his. Why did you attribute the enemies words to him.
Christianity holds the unmistakeable title of most ignorant followers of their own religion in part because Christianities biggest followers are in the Western hemisphere. You cant say America has been dumbed down and exclude Christians from that equation. If the average American is less smart than he was 50 years ago then it follows the average church goer isnt as up on their religion as they should/could be. Theism and atheism are the same to me. Unwavering certainty of knowing the answers.
One external evidence source you may have neglected to mention is in India and the Himalayas there is a "Saint Issa" who preached the same things as Jesus apparently and they wrote of his death in Israel and such, have you ever looked at that at all?
I also thought Jesus was from Bethlehem and then Galilee where does this Nazareth come from? I thought it was Jesus the Nazarene, meaning something totally different, at least that is what my Buddhist friends tell me.
Nazareth is by Galilee. Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth, and when Caesar Augustus issued a decree to take a census of the entire Roman empire, Joseph and Mary were required to take it in Bethlehem, because Joseph's family line came from there. So, they traveled there, and while there, Mary gave birth in a manger, because there was no room in the inn. Then they fled to Egypt so Jesus would not be killed by Herod, and moved back to Nazareth after Herod died.
Christians call Mormons a cult - Jehova Witnesses a cult and any one outside mainstream Christianity a cult. Christians are blind - utterly blinded by their dogma not to see that Christianity is , itself a cult - the cult of Christ - rooted so far back in antiquity, that it became established as a world religion , exercising control of millions through fear and guilt - so much so , that it really takes on the appearance of an anti-christ - could that be so?
yea, Josephus is very clear in the original texts that he's not talking about the biblical Jesus but another guy that happened to have the same name (i forget exactly, but it's referred to as 'Jesus of ______' and not 'Jesus of Nazareth')
and this was ADMITTEDLY altered by the scribes that partitioned it into more 'christian' texts. They essentially take out things that contradict their ideals.
The presenter gave the correct definition of agnosticism, so I don't understand why he asked 'were you ever truly agnostic?' in the context of going from mormon to deist.
In my opinion a deist is always an agnostic theist. In other words, you believe that a god is probable, but that we don't/can't know anything about this entity.
Anyway, the whole idea of agnosticism is rubbish. Its existence is caused because religionists think in absolutes and need such a distinction.
There really is no such thing as a "gnostic." Nobody truly "knows" anything. How do you know that all reality is, in fact, just in your own mind? Or, as Tweedledumb posed to Alice, "Are you the dreamer, or in someone else's dream?"
Haha! Nope I don't have to "skew facts and history" to make you look like an idiot. People like yourself manage that all by themselves.
But in all seriousness; I do find that many Christians are ill/uninformed about many things including their own religion. Maybe a lack of questioning? That is my best guess.
It is a lack of questioning on the part of many Christians, and an overabundance of what pentacostals falsely call "faith". I, on the other hand, have always questioned my belief in Christ quite critically and rigorously as one trying to disprove it. I still believe, and am convinced it's all true. So, I'm not one of those. Try me.
And not even just a lack of questioning. You can't even begin to question the bible, as a Christian, if you don't even bother to read it. There are many denominations out there that do this. What's most irritating about these sorts of Christians is that they are also the most overbearing and dogmatic. They pick a few favorite verses (rules, for instance) and try to impose these on non-believers (not understanding the apostle absolutely opposed this). I understand your frustration with them.
Yeah, he discusses the Talmud in depth in the next segment.
Unfortunately it had been a long time since I heard this argument, so I wasn't prepared at the time... that's what happens when you agree to an interview without specific questions agreed upon in advance.
Is it me, or does this guy's voice sound like that one guy who tried to disprove evolution and the grand-canyon or something, by using a hose in his backyard and digging holes? I don't know his name

You can go to wiki [dot] ironchariots [dot] org and search Flavius Josephus and all those guys for more information.
The site is good for a variety of counter-apologetics.

I think he is the "secular" scholar that refers to jesus as christ..
A secularist would not refer to jesus as "christ", ie the choosen one

He DID NOT refer to Jesus as divine that was an interpolation!

I can't say for sure, but is it possible that you have too much to lose to believe otherwise?
I find It's easy to convince just one person, and even easier if that one person is yourself.
One other observation... You seem to be caught up in the details, take a step back a look at the frame work of your religion.

Sorry, type-o: "not understanding the apostle [Paul] absolutely opposed this"
sorenkierkegaard2008 2 years ago
Funny... When I read the original post, I didn't notice the type-o. My brain must have automatically inserted "Paul" after the word apostle.
