It's un-important, but a small detail: Mario Bros. wasn't a launch title for the Famicom. It came out September 9th, 1983 while the Famicom, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Popeye came out July 15th, 1983.
@sygo7g Actually their was a viable import market for video media. The problem was that atari was the most trusted brand and it destroyed itself and made people lose faith in home consoles thus the proceeding computer game boom.
ya i've been wanting a famicom or at least a few of the games and a converter pin set. do you know a good place to buy famicom games because ebay doesn't seem like a good place. i been trying to find battle toads for fami com because i hear its difficulty has been toned down
@ZyllAvatar yes that is the major difference between the two. The 7800 soundchip was garbage and none of the developers took the time to make and attach their own.
Thank you for reviewing this mostly overlooked gem. I've spent 1000's of hours playing it on the nes. The beauty of the game is that it plays like clockwork. After many hours of practice, the jumps are quite predictable. I love taking big chances in the game. My top score was around 450,000. This and the Ghouls 'n Ghost series are among my favorite games..
It was Nintendo's first 14 titles released for the Famicom. They're called "pulse line" because of the zigzag line on the label. Each cart was a different color, but otherwise there was no artwork or anything like that on them. The 14 pulse line titles are: Donkey Kong, D.K.Jr., Popeye, Gomokunarabe, MahJong, Mario Bros, Popeye English, Baseball, D.K.Jr. Math, Tennis, Pinball, Golf, Donkey Kong 3, and Devil World.
That's just a combo of poor lighting and a not so great camera. I'm actually quite olive-toned and I never get sunburned. I didn't even wear sunscreen in the Middle East in July.

The Beeb was available in '81 and had graphics almost as good. Ditto the Spectrum from '82!

This looks 100 times better than the Atari version. Your Famicon looks awesome too.

Haha your one of those people that tries to sound Italian when you say Mario lol.
Good video man.

I am Italian. And I speak Italian too. But I think the accent you're hearing is Mid-Atlantic U.S./Philly.

You got some really white arms and hands to be Italian. You got that Michael Jackson thing going on that makes me white?
sinistermoon 2 years ago
*makes YOU white* Not me. I am one of the whitest people ever lol. I am so white I glow in the dark lol.

P.S. Dommie is short for Domenic. ;)

Well, it is one whole letter shorter lol.

Dommie, I caught you saying Mario the other way in one of your recent reviews...can't remember if it was Mario Brothers for Atari or SMB1.
vintagevideogamegeek 2 years ago
Wow... Just incredible how good and addictive this game was... even if its a simple concept and most people say it gets repetitive..
But even if the Super Mario Series holds a special place in my gaming thumbs... I still like playing this one too
Great work again Dommie!!
