my quaker plucks too but she started after i clipped her wings.... she plucked her body near her armpit area the outside of wings... i think it was the cut feathers stabbing her side, irritating itits been 6 months and shes looking great..i hope thats all it was....praying... not sure what your problems are but dont give up...i have forced hot air for heat, which dries their skin so in the winter i'll use a humidifier this year... she talks and laughs just like yours...
That's interesting, I never thought of that. You may have cut them too short, or maybe it just irritated her. Either way, glad she stopped for ya. We have tried everything, but the little guy still plucks. He is the most spoiled bird in the world! Post some videos of your little friend!
Keep her busy, keep trying different toys, treats, perches, etc. until you find something she likes. We had to buy at least 50 toys until we found one that Phoenix liked. (and now we keep that toy stocked, he goes through about 1 a week sometimes!) He seems to destroy the toy instead of plucking. (hopefully he continues to do this)
Most of all, Phoenix LOVES attention. I'm assuming your bird may be the same. You just have to be patient. You can do everything right...
We really spoil our birdies. Several toys and many, many perches. Our birds like leather straps from purses. The kind with the hooks. Our vet told us they were safe, so we put them all over their cage's hot spots. Our birdies love apples, pineapple, grapes and the go wild for wheat bread! I'll be posting some video soon! Thanks for the suggestions!
Our birds love wheat bread too! That's funny! My parrotlet "Pickle" loves when we give him banana bread. Good luck with your little guy, and I forgot to ask, have you tried "Pluck No More" spray?
We were using a "pluck no more type of spray," but it had alcohol in it, so our vet suggested we stop, because all it would do is sting the birdies skin and dry it out, leading to further plucking in the future. No we are using a spray with Aloe Vera, also recommended by our vet. Our bird does great until she only has a few feathers left to grow, then she starts all over again. ; (
... you can do everything right, give them all the love and attention in the world, and sometimes they still pluck. One more suggestion, keep them interested... let them try different foods and treats. Phoenix loves apples... your quaker may like them too!
@2LittleGreenChickens Hey, how long did it take your Parakeet to talk? I had mine for around 3 months and we're desperate of trying to make him talk, yet he wouldn't talk
It can take a while for them to talk. 3 months is not very long at all. Keep at it. My parrotlet didn't talk for about 2 years, but now he is picking up everything Phoenix says, so I'm pretty excited! Each bird is different, some will never talk! (sorry!)

He is a plucker, so he has to wear a collar to prevent him from plucking all his feathers out.

We're having the same problem with our 1 year old girl. Today she began chewing through her collar. Any suggestions or comments?
