Yeah, that beeping noise is how the smoke alarm alerts you to the fact that its batteries are low.
If you have neighbours on the other side of that wall, then it's quite possible they're banging on the wall to tell you to change the batteries.
If you've got a connecting roof with your neighbours, then they might have become so irritated by your smoke alarm beeping, they climbed up the attic to see if they could get access to it to shut it the hell up.
p.s. If you have got a connecting attic with your neighbours then I'd strongly advise you to install some kind of bolt / lock to stop them accessing your home.
You'd be quite stunned, I'm sure, to discover how common connected attics can be, where there really is little to nothing stopping neighbours just wandering into each other's attics - and, yes, often being able to access each other's houses.
Don't worry about ghosts. Worry about other human beings.

@LiamoSan yeah. prolly. EXCEPT for the fact that the banging and knocking and walking began about 4 days ago and the most recent occurrence of ghostly activity occurred about 2 hours BEFORE the smoke alarm started going off that night. Psychic ghost maybe??

Did something awful happen next week due to the lack of smoke alarm battery power, and has your soul came back to warn you? And if you heed the warning and replace the batteries and dont die in a fire, thereby releasing your soul to warn you, WHO's going to warn you instead? ...Me! Buy some batteries!

@ludaKrisKingdom yup. i figured that ;) i just thought it was a cute video to make. I couldnt get the knocking and banging and footsteps so i figured i'd get that in a video before i switched the battery out. ;)
That isn't a sueak it is the smoke alarm, i slept at my friends and the same thing happend so you're in luck !! Your house isnt haunted
